Lucifer's Shadow

So I had an angst idea for Leviathan and Lucifer with a little of the others. I love angst, but I'll give you all a happy ending as a treat.

Leviathan + Lucifer (platonic)

TW: angst, Hurt/comfort

There once was a bright and shining star that looked down over the heavens. This prodigy of an angel was so bright that he casted an indescribable dark shadow over those that attempted to climb to his and his twin brother's position. One such angel, was his baby brother. The day Lucifer was assigned to care for Leviathan he was but a child himself. He'd love Leviathan dearly, but he did not understand that other children required attention and Father was saving it all for him and Micheal. Lucifer left Leviathan alone, and watched him grow. The other angels spoke and said Leviathan must be great like Lucifer, but Leviathan did not understand Lucifer either. Leviathan walked the path of strength, wanting to be like his big brother, he wanted to be Lucifer. He would often be walking right behind Lucifer, following the elder to the ends of the Heavens if that's where he was going. Leviathan earned the nicknames Lucifer's Shadow and Lucifer's brother, many even forgetting his name altogether.

Then there was Mammon. Micheal, the twin star, could not handle Mammon at all so Lucifer took him in to stand with him and Leviathan. Leviathan had hope that perhaps Mammon was someone who could relate to existing the swallowing depths of the Morningstar's shadow, but Mammon started to shine too. Leviathan would reach out to them both but they burned to the touch and his tongue was scorched away in his childhood spent trying to be a good warlord worthy of Lucifer's attention. Lucifer had learned a little better now that Mammon was placed as his second, he could see the outline of Leviathan hiding in his shadow. Lucifer reached into the black and pulled Leviathan into his arms. Leviathan hated it. Leviathan hated it because he was so unworthy that the touch burns his skin. He had done nothing worth Lucifer's attention, nothing worth anything as a being moulded by God only to be useless to those hands that made him and now the hands that hold him. Leviathan hates it.

Soon came the other siblings, then a sister Leviathan could not save was traded for a brother as they all fell into a deeper and darker pit. Leviathan was unusually familiar with this darkness, and Lucifer still glowed for his brothers even if the light in his eyes had all but gone. Leviathan doesn't recall a time when light might have been there, had it ever been there at all? How selfish he was for not noticing his elder brother struggling, to not lead alongside Lucifer during the war and only following like the shadow he was. If only Leviathan were Beelzebub or Mammon, then he may have picked up on it sooner. He reached out to hug Lucifer back, but Mammon's hand was already on the eldest's shoulder to make sure he was ok too. Leviathan shouldn't have tried, he wasn't worthy so retreating away to shield himself from the light he didn't deserve was enough. He has stolen enough from his brothers.

The world flew by a million years and everything was as it should have been. Leviathan was separate, a self imposed isolation lest he eat his brother's light in his void until he had stolen everything from them just by being to close. His shame and filth, as he believed, was horribly contagious and the best he could do was hide in his room with the things he could not ruin because they were not real. For a moment he'd take a peek outside before his retreat, before he ruined them all. He opened the door a little to see someone new, someone that made his brothers smile... Leviathan wished he realised they hadn't smiled in centuries before now. What has he been doing? Leviathan didn't know if hiding was helping anyone, if his very presence cursed this house or if he perhaps was doing what was best as stepping out would make things worse. It didn't matter, they were smiling now, he wasn't needed as he wished he was. Still Leviathan look to his door and wish he was brave like Asmodeus to crawl outside and take their attention, sometimes that someone would pull him out. He could never go through that door on his own, but then a little knock called him to it. He opened it, just a little and his eldest brother stood there and blinded him all over again.

"It seems I haven't given you as much attention as you needed with all the antics around the house, Leviathan. I was perhaps hoping you could tell me about this "Witch Hat Atelier" Mc said you enjoyed. Perhaps we could watch it together."

Lucifer patted Leviathan's head and he thought the world turned upside down. Lucifer smiled as he spoke to his little brother, was his voice always that normal? Lucifer stepped inside and the outside seemed less bright and his room felt more normal. Leviathan wondered why Lucifer wasn't blinding anymore, and why his world wasn't dark. Why wasn't it dark as it always had been? Why was Lucifer smiling at him? Why, why had he spent so much time believing he was a stain when Lucifer looked at him like one of his favourite stars. Lucifer stopped smiling when Leviathan didn't respond and pulled Leviathan into a hug.

"Leviathan, I didn't mean to make you cry."

Leviathan reached up and touched his face, shocked at the wetness. Lucifer was warm, but not burning like before. He didn't hate this, he didn't hate it at all. He sobbing like he should have allowed himself all those years ago. It wasn't too late this time to be enough l, Lucifer was holding him so he had to have had a chance, Lucifer wouldn't be touching him if he was only to stain his hands. Lucifer rubbed gentle circles into Leviathan's back. Lucifer mutters under his breath and Leviathan could hear the way Lucifer cursed himself.

"God damn me again, I should have been paying more attention."

Leviathan was sobbing so loudly he knows Lucifer thinks he went unheard by all but Father. Even when they fell he never believed Lucifer to be fallible or capable of doing something he'd regret other than taking him in. He could hardly believe that he was wanted. He finally hugged Lucifer back, it was so warm. Leviathan had forgotten how safe Lucifer's hugs felt as the eldest unfurled his wings to wrap them around Leviathan. Leviathan stopped crying, but Lucifer didn't push him away now that it was over. They stood together for several minutes, Lucifer rather worried that Leviathan would cry again if he let go but they couldn't stand there forever when it was almost time for dinner."

"Leviathan, how about we order the rainbow pizza you like? I don't think anyone would mind take out and after that you can pick a movie for us to watch."

Leviathan nodded, not trusting his voice even as his tongue was no longer burning in hate. Lucifer kept him under his wing as they walked, where Lucifer always believed Leviathan to be and where Leviathan should have always been. There were no shadows in these wings despite their inky colours and they served as the protective background for the little star Lucifer held against them. It was safe as they walked into the kitchen, with no shadows chaining Leviathan behind.

Leviathan's turn! I only get more excited the more I write for Leviathan's and I left him as the only standalone since the others seem to come in pairs. Lucifer and Mammon's part here! And later we'll get Satan, Asmo and the twins.

TW: Negative self talk, self-hatred, hurt/comfort

Leviathan did not understand. He had been in his room for a while and as he emerged his brother's seemed to grow without him. They were already so far ahead of him, they already felt unreachable, but now he feels like he's at the bottom of a pit and reaching for the brothers he can no longer see. He wanted to reach them, he wanted to be like them, he wanted to be them. Even in heaven his envy festered in his chest because he was not a perfect angel, if he was then he wouldn't want to be the others so badly. He'd press his hands to his face and hoped that if he pressed hard enough the shape would change into that of someone else, anyone else, anyone that wasn't Leviathan. He wanted to be Lucifer a Leader that everyone relied on, he wanted to be Mammon a shoulder to cry on and someone's favourite, he wanted to be Satan intelligent and under control, he wanted to be Asmodeus beloved and beautiful, he wanted to be Beelzebub cool and strong, he wanted to be Belphegor apathetic to the world's opinion, he wanted to be Mc kind and everything else that wasn't him.

Mc took Leviathan's hands and peeled them off his face. It was his turn for them to wipe the tears away from his beautiful orange eyes. His face was red from how hard he was pressing his hands into it, Mc was surprised he didn't hurt his nose somehow. Their fingers started tracing circles in his palms as they waited patiently for him to start crying. They already had a water on hand to give him when it was over. They didn't let go of his hands, they simply relocated to wrap themselves around his waist while he sat in his gamer chair drinking the water they got him. Leviathan set the water aside, unsure what to do with his personal God hugging him.

"Leviathan, why are you crying."

"I-It doesn't really matter, I'm sure you don't want to hear about it."

Mc decided since it was time, they had to be more forceful but they still sounded gentle "How dare you assume what I want. If I didn't want to know, I wouldn't have asked. I am not like the others outside this house that only ask as a courtesy, so tell me Leviathan."

"I-I'm Sorry!"

"Don't apologise, just..." magic sizzled in the air and pulsated through Leviathan's chest as Mc made their command "Tell me everything, Levi."

Leviathan's tongue anxiously danced to the beat of the magics pulse "I-I-I'm not worth anything at all. I contribute nothing to this world. My brothers they grow, they do things, they add and they do it together. I am alone, Lucifer and Mammon have each other, Satan and Asmo go together, and the twins are clear pairing. I'm just alone and I hate it." Leviathan's hands balled into fists as he slowly grew erratic "I've subtracted when I was in the military but I did nothing but take and take alone. Now I do nothing but take! I take their air, their time, and for what?! They have grown and I'm still so far behind! I hate it! I HATE ME! THEY MUST HATE ME TOO!"

Mc pulled away and took Leviathan's hand again, pressing one to their cheek "Leviathan, you made me smile the other day."

Leviathan paused and stared at Mc in bewilderment "Huh?"

"If someone can add just one thing, make one person happy, then their life has value. That's your logic yes?"

Leviathan nodded trying to understand where Mc was going with this. Mc started to speak again, certain in their argument.

"Well when you talk about the things you love, that makes me very happy. It make Asmo happy when you let him do your nails, you make Lucifer very happy when he sees you healthy and having fun, you make Satan happy when you recommend a game with cats to him, Beel and Belphie very happy when you play games with them, Mammon's happy when you go outside and do something. You make all your brothers very happy by being alive, I'm happy you're alive. That's eight people that you make happy, nine if we include Diavolo because he's also happy when you share your interests with him, ten to include the ways you help Simeon with technology, Eleven with Solomon who also shares your interests in TSL. You make people happy, Leviathan."

Leviathan didn't know he was crying again until Mc finished "I make them... happy? But- But I'm still so far behind them."

"Who said it was a race? Who cares if you're behind, actually you're ahead of Lucifer in communication skills but have a picnic while you're stuck why don't you. You have eternity to live and eternity to grow."

"What was that about Lu-"

Mc placed a finger over Leviathan's lips "Shhhhhhhh, he doesn't matter, I'm already working on that with him, this is about you, my little sea snake, you matter more than you will ever understand."

"I-.... matter?"

"Yes, now say it again with confidence."

"I matter."

Mc stood and leaned down to be close to Leviathan's face. They kissed him, it wasn't any french kiss but it held all the pride Mc had in him for making it so far. Leviathan turned red and couldn't think of anything except the everything that Mc told him.

"You matter, my Leviathan."
