I would like you to raise your hand if you hate the precious Word of God.

If you have full intention of sitting there with a stiffened spine, having already decided for yourself what “truth” is, whether God's Word agrees or not, and you will not budge from your current beliefs no matter what anyone proves to you from the Scripture, raise your hand.

Now, that seems funny. But so many of us are in that exact position. Never having realized how hardened our hearts have become, how unteachable our spirits have made themselves, we continue unawares to carry things around in the belief bag of our personal theology that, had we known the Scripture before we decided to believe anything, we would never have picked up in the first place.

Now pride has seeped in and hardened us against any prospect of refining our beliefs or throwing them out all together if they should be thrown out. We have stunted our own growth, robbed our congregations of power, and cut ourselves off from that sweet and dear and unimaginably intimate relationship with God Himself.

I'll point none of this out for condemnation, but in humility I'm begging you to examine yourself today and make sure before we begin that your heart isn't one of those encased in its own prison of pride and false teaching. False teaching that Jesus himself warned us repeatedly would flourish RIGHT NOW, TODAY, in these last hours of the last days of this age.

Before we begin I want to ask you: if I handed you a writing tablet and a new pen and told you to please write down for me everything you know about the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, could you fill even one side of the first page with your understanding of what God did to those people?

If I ask you questions about the severe political climate and the national hatred that stood against the first century Church, and the bloodbath you knew you were baptizing yourself into when you opened your mouth to admit you were a follower of that cursed Nazarene, could you fill 2 minutes of airspace with the knowledge you actually have of these things?

Don’t make the mistake of thinking this is some kind of slackardly, non-consequential game. Your Eternity is hanging in the balance here with what you put your Faith in.

How have we called ourselves, some of us, children of God for years, decades even, and yet we know nothing of what God has done on this planet with his children for 2,000 years?!?

How can you sing songs about and amen memes online and comment on sermons about standing with a body of people that you don't know anything about?

You can't. Oh, you do! But at best it's a shallow lip service to what our Family, the very children of God whom He loved so much He gave His only Son to be tortured and murdered to save… GOD's children! We today generally know nothing of what those we claim as our spiritual ancestors have gone through century after century, and as a consequence we know nothing of the identity of the common maniac that has slaughtered our brothers and sisters in almost every century since the first generation of the Church of God on this planet!

And because of that ignorance, we're making up marvel comic book fairy tale Antichrist figures and then going and keeping a watch out for the creation of our own mind in our own generation.

And we are making exactly, exactly, exactly the same mistake of the religious people of Christ's day: we are watching for manifestations of prophecies according to the way we have imagined them to be. Not according to how God will fulfill those prophecies.

There are still many among us, whose posts I see almost daily on social media, going on and on about how the third Temple in Jerusalem is about to be built finally. Telling everyone how Christ cannot return until the third Temple is finished being built.

I suppose they, like perhaps some of you, have neglected to pay attention when they were reading the familiar Scripture that flatly states: Do you not know that YOU are the TEMPLE of GOD??

AND THEY'RE TAKING AN OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY AND TWISTING IT AROUND UNTIL THEY'RE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR A PERFECT SACRIFICE, THIS TIME IN THE FORM OF A RED HEIFER, when the biblical fact is the spotless lamb that dedicates and cleanses the third temple of God has already been slain!

Many such things we find ourselves chasing when our exposure to biblical matters is ordered by a time clock to get in our chapter a day so we can check our religious box and get back to what our hearts really enjoy doing.

This post addresses how to cite authors who have only one name. These people include celebrities (like Madonna or [the artist formerly known as] Prince) as well as many people from Indonesia. To cite works by these people, provide the full name without abbreviation, because abbreviating the given name would render the name unintelligible. So for example, a work by Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia, would be cited as such: Reference list: Sukarno. (1965). Sukarno: An autobiography (C. Adams, Trans.). Indianapolis, IN: Bobbs-Merrill. In text: (Sukarno, 1965) This category does not include people who are well-known by their first name alone but who actually publish under their full name—for example, although you might know who Oprah is from her first name alone, she has published books as Oprah Winfrey and so would be credited in the reference list as Winfrey, O., and would be credited as Winfrey (or Oprah Winfrey) in the text—but never as just “Oprah” unless she published under only that name with no surname.
