Cranking these last days up to eleven! Let's get on with day twenty-seven!
Today's prompt was 'Secrets | Laboratory'. Now, upon seeing lab, I knew this had to be Lilith, and considering she's apparently the '''evil"" satellite, I suppose she'd naturally keep some secrets. Perhaps good secrets. You'll just have to find out. Happy with this one; simple, but it's a nice change of pace to have simpler ideas every once in a while. Hope y'all enjoy :]
Waking up with a gasp, Luka tumbled from his bed, and nearly fell face first on the floor, just barely catching himself with his Kinesis-Kinesis powers. With a relieved sigh, he righted himself up to a kneeling pose, and turned to his guest. “Oh, hey Lilith…is something the matter?”
“Heh, not quite,” she remarked, a typical mischievous grin on her face. “Just checking to see if you were up. And, hey! You are!”
He raised an eyebrow at her. “I’d say because you woke me up, but I wasn’t exactly getting the best sleep tonight…”
“Exactly!” She beamed, and lifted the man up to his feet. “And you’re the only one here not hooked up to the system, which means I can still show it my secret thing.”
“Your…secret thing?”
“My secret thing!”
They stared at each other for a moment, Lilith’s eyes wide with excitement while Luka looked back at her with more hesitance. Still, he shrugged. “Sure, might as well.”
“Great!” She laughed, taking his hand and starting to drag him off.
Luka currently had his own room, a bit out of the way from anywhere else on the Labosphere, but even still it seemed as if the satellite was giving him a full tour of the place with how far they were going. He had to admit, though, that it was an experience to see all of Egghead at night, whether it be the dull lights of the future city below, or the quiet openness of the labs high in the sky. That said, if Luka knew anything about Lilith, she wasn’t one to get him up for a lovely view.
Eventually, they arrived at one of the further buildings about, one that seemed to be set up for less frequent tests. Like all of the labs here, there was a lock such that only Vegapunk, or anyone given permission, could access it. “Am I…exactly allowed in here?” Luka inquired, scratching his head. “I know in the books I’m technically an assistant, but does that get me qualifications?”
“I don’t think so!”
“Oh.”
“Not that it matters; we aren’t even going in here!”
Before Luka could even ask why they were here then, Lilith was once more pulling on his arm, taking him around to the back half of the building instead. As far as the back was concerned, it seemed mostly devoid of details, just being a flat wall. Lilith felt around it for a second, almost looking lost for a second, before smiling and placing her hand flat on one part of the wall. That portion of the wall seemed to glow for a second, and a door slid open not far from it.
Luka’s eyes widened. “Wh—How…?”
“It’s all a part of my evil genius, big guy!” She giggled, placing her fingers to her temples. “You still with me on this? I warn you, this might melt your brain!”
He had to admit, he was a lil unsure. While he had gotten to know Lilith fairly well over the past few months, he still wasn’t really sure what to make of her. Sure, she was the self-described evil aspect of Vegapunk, but from what he’s seen it felt like quite the opposite. Of course, any attempt to actually let her know that was always met with a laughing rebuke, alongside a half-hearted excuse of it being a cover up or the like. It was all a bit confusing, but he was pretty sure she was good at heart. At least, he hoped so.
With a half smile, he nodded. “Yeah, I’m with ya, Lilith.”
She grinned—though, for a brief second, it looked as if she was almost surprised. Regardless, the two stepped into the doorway, the hidden door closing quickly behind them, leaving them briefly alone together in a dark room. “Heh heh…,” Lilith laughed, almost sinisterly, before snapping her fingers.
A solid light came on above them, nearly blinding Luka. As he got used to it, he looked around, and quickly realized he was standing in what appeared to be a rather jury-rigged lab of some sort. The equipment seemed a little outdated, at least by the standards of Egghead, and some of them seemed connected together in weird ways. What particularly caught his eye was a familiar looking tree being contained in a terrarium tube. “Wait…is that…?”
“The durian tree, native only to the North Blue?” Lilith finished for him, sounding rather proud. “Behind the backs of everyone, I had special ordered a sample of it just for my own purposes! You kept talking about how much you missed the beverages you could make with them back home, so I thought I’d see what all the ruckus was about!”
Luka looked at her with wide eyes, a bit taken aback, but no less impressed.
“My conclusion…they’re a bit much,” she admitted. “A very strong order, not exactly worth the taste. But I had them all, and you probably liked them, so I thought I might as well give them some use!” Walking over to one of the containers in the lab, she pulled out a tall glass that contained a rich, yellow colored liquid in it. “The rest can be yours, but you have to ask for my permission to get some more of them! Hah! Dangling the beloved fruit of your home over your head like this! How dastardly!”
While Luka took the glass, he was still taking a good while to process all this. It was only after he took a sip, feeling the rich, distinct, yet all too familiar flavor wash across his mouth, that his thoughts finally collected, and he smiled. “This…this was very sweet of you, Lilith. Thank you.”
She blushed, though quickly glanced away and crossed her arms. “I didn’t do it for you! It was for me! Now you have to keep this secret too, okay? No one can know about this, or else you won’t get anymore, got it?”
“Fine by me,” he nodded. “Either way…it was thoughtful of you.” He leaned forward, and planted a kiss on her cheek.
The satellite’s eyes widened, and she quickly covered up her even-redder face, mumbling something to herself. Luka simply chuckled, as he enjoyed more of his drink.
i am 130something parts into this; 4kids is fair game 😂
