pt 3 yonji,,, born to be a total nerd, forced to slay
Zeff might not have had a lot of screen time, but he left an impact! What're your headcanons for the man?
Ooohhhh Zeff! I can't not like Zeff. He's big, he's strong, he CAN be scary- but he chooses not too when it matters most.
Zeff was and is still very popular with the ladies—but he has a certain gruff finesse that Sanji doesn't. Mostly, Zeff has the life experience to know when to have a gentle hand and a bit of vulnerability when flirting. He’s a softer flirt. He can say the same outlandish things Sanji does but with the tone and social context to have it land sensually, respectfully, and sincerely. (Sanji will get there with time)
Zeff 💯 gave Sanji the best (worst) sex talk with very creative food metaphors. Zeff was embarrassed, Sanji was confused, and it is only years later when Sanji falls in love for the first time that he suddenly realizes that wasn't a recipe for food but for how to treat a woman right when you really like her. (Maybe one day I'll write it or do a birds and the bees head cannons post for a few characters who definitely got unconventional words of wisdom)
He fiddles with his mustache when nervous.
I think Zeff regrets never settling down and having a family of his own prior to adopting Sanji. I think that when he did adopt Sanji and opened the Baratie it gave him the opportunity to finally feel that dream realized, never really having thought he wanted it that badly or that it was even something he was allowed to want/have/deserve.
Expanding on that---he wants Sanji to settle down and bring him grandkids one day to spoil. He probably has sappy little daydreams about spoiling grandkids and teasing Sanji about parenthood that are exceptionally domestic...but he'll never tell because he's a gruff and tough man after all!
Can you imagine him spoiling a granddaughter and braiding her hair as she braids his beard? Here let me help you imagine:
If Sanji is meant to be a girl dad then Zeff was MADE to be a girl Grandpa.
slight AU I came up with, where Mihawk meets Zoro (& Perona) at a VERY early age- leading to Zoro and Sanji being something like childhood friends.

Helloooo.
So this is going to be oddly specific, so pleasssse bear with me.
Sanji x Platonic!mer
Sanji and Zeff had found/rescued a very young mermaid, and ever since, theyve done their best to try and raise her near the Baratie (shes not one of the mermaids that can go between legs and tail). Sanji always goes down to the docks by the Baratie, visiting her before/after closing, bringing her food, talking with her, etc. In return, she brings him and Zeff ingredients from the sea. Shes 14 -15ish now, and still quite curious, but not bubbly.
Could I have a oneshot about them? Ill list a couple prompts in case you get stuck, but do whatever you want!
Just what a normal day looks like for them
The conversation he has with her when he decides he is going to join the Strawhats
A close call with a hunter
Thank you, but no pressure to write this one if youre uncomfortable or dont want to!
Have a good day <3
Thank you for visiting the confectionary! Here is your Monster Cookie Bar with Marshmallows
Fintastic Begginings Ft Sanji and Zeff
A/N Okay first of all sorry this aint’t really the greatest work, I think it’s jumping all over the place with timeskips not done correctly but hey! Just like promised I finished it 👊🏼
Reader here is replaced by Dokucha which stabds for reader in japanese for the enjoyment of both reader and oc character readers.
The Baratie sailed on, the vessel gently riding the waves of the East Blue. It was a tranquil day, perfect for smooth sailing. The people aboard the ship could agree as gentle chatter and laughter rang around the dining halls, with the harmonic sounds of chopping and sizzling food echoed in the kitchen. Yes, everything was tranquil. Everyone was enjoying such a day—except one blond boy, it seemed.
“Ugh! That old man doesn’t know what he’s talking about!” The child yelled as he bolted out the door, slamming it behind him as he stomped his way to the deck.
“Always the same boorish recipes! He’s a damn caveman!” He groaned out, kicking at a small piece of debris that had fallen on the deck, following its path as it rolled down the platform and into the sea; it wasn’t this that took his attention, however, as hanging into the pier of the boat was a smaller child, face masked in pain as she struggled to hold on.
Yet another WIP.
This one takes place when Sanji has been with Zeff for a year.
An undercover marine comes into the Baratie and recognizes Zeff immediately. He sees Sanji and assumes he's his kid.
He corners Sanji and says that he knows about Zeff and that if Sanji doesn't help him out, he'll turn Zeff in to his higher ups.
He's there following a ship of child traffickers who docked at the Baratie. They've had their eye on Sanji.
Every time this Marine tries to follow them to their base, they lose him at the last minute. So he asks Sanji to let them take him and gives him a small transponder snail to contact him with the base's location.
Sanji doesn't have much of a choice so he goes asking with it.
Zeff finds out he's missing almost as soon as the other ship departs and is kicking himself for not keeping a closer eye on the kid. They weigh anchor and start to follow when Mr. Marine tries to leverage Zeff's past against him so he doesn't overtake the slavers.
Zeff refuses but the other ship is fast and the Baratie wasn't built for speed. It takes four days to catch up to them.
They expect to find huddled masses, terrified and hurting, but instead, Sanji is standing over a bunch of unconscious bodies with ten or twelve kids hiding behind him.
Sanji takes the lead in helping the other kids and getting them fed something that won't hurt their stomachs. He swears that they're safe there, going as far as yelling at Patti to prove that even the biggest guy in the ship hadn't ever hurt him, even when Sanji insulted him.
And Sanji is ticked. He goes on a little rant about how that was the most pathetic excuse for a dungeon he'd ever seen. The cells were wooden and they used rope for restraints and where were the cuffs you morons!?
All of which make the chefs pretty concerned.
Mr. Marine promises to get the kids somewhere safe and to report that red leg Zeff really was dead. This is the first time they find out about Sanji's deal with the guy. Zeff makes sure to tell him that the only reason he's leaving with his skull intact is because Sanji would notice a body in the water.
Hurt comfort while Sanji deals with nightmares and general jumpiness from the bad memories the whole thing brought up.
