Hey if someone is having a good day and is thinking about doing an unnecessary task that day or the following day, like doing the dishes even if it isn't their job, doing their laundry when the basket isn't full yet, going grocery shopping when it doesn't need to be done yet: DO NOT TURN IT INTO AN OBLIGATION.
If it's the middle of the day and the person hasn't done the ELECTIVE task that does not cause any burden on you, do not pull up with:
"Hey, I thought you were going to do _____ today, not what you're doing now."
"If you're wanting to do ____, you should do it before it gets dark."
"What happened to _____?"
"Go do ______! You said you were thinking about doing it earlier/yesterday!"
"Are you ever gonna ______ today?"
If you are turning something that was supposed to be an elective, proactive task as a result of a good day, into an obligation that the person needs to perform on YOUR timescale, do not expect it to get done.
I will actually go out of my way to AVOID doing the task for an extended period of time if it is turned into an obligation. Then it will become a LEGITIMATE problem.
Oh, we're out of bread because the store didn't have any THIS week? That sucks. Maybe if you left me the fuck alone, I would have gotten it done LAST week when I PLANNED to get it done, but you decided to turn it into an obligation when it WASN'T one at the time and bug me about it. Enjoy having no bread for the next week.
