(Friend That’s Too Woke take maybe idk)
I’ve started seeing a few of these pop up both in one shots and as standalone stories so let me just say I cannot get behind the idea of anyone posting stories where KA gets a redemption arc. She’s not a hurt dog who just needs to be cared for or a player who made an off collar comment 5-10 years ago who has since changed and learned, she’s a homophobe who celebrated the injury of a queer USWNT player who has been notably vocal about these issues whose number she then wore, and she promoted anti-trans propaganda. If at any point she attempted to show the growth or learning they have said she has done, or if she gave genuine signs of actually giving a fuck that her actions cause very real harm this would be a different conversation. She hasn’t, so it isn’t.
It’s also my opinion that by posting these stories, it’s a quick slide into normalizing and minimizing her actions and becoming complacent to them. I said this a few days ago about why I think broadcasts focus on her a lot and it’s to get us comfortable hearing about her and seeing her until it becomes just a fact of life watching the USWNT that she’s there. There’s a correlation between the two.
TLDR; redemption is earned. I don’t think posting those narratives for people who don’t seem to give a shit about them is necessarily the way to go.
