Anyone who knows me knows Scream is one of my all-time favorite movies. My husband just surprised me with this poster, and I suddenly had a realization.
How, in almost 30 years, have I never noticed how odd this poster is? Why is Drew Barrymore front and center when Casey Becker is killed in the first 15 minutes? Why is Billy Loomis shown with a goatee when he’s clean-shaven the entire movie? And where the hell are Stu Macher, one of the killers, and Tatum Riley, who are both in the movie far longer than Casey is?
Male reader x Billy or Stu thing where reader is a fan of horror video games and novels instead of movies?
yes!! this is so up my alley…. i’m gonna do both of the boys <3 pretty short, sfw, no warnings! hope you like it, anon!!

stu (and billy, by extension of being right next to the two of you when the invitation was given) had invited you over to his house one weekend; he wanted to hang out with you again after seeing how you’d reacted to him being so enamored with horror movies. usually the others at school thought the pair were weird, strange and off-putting. but you knew the feeling, so you’d hit it off with them immediately.
and you had a surprise for them! you’d just bought what promised to be a really cool game; a horror point-and-click about a slasher killing a babysitter. heavily based on the halloween movies, you figured, but without the copyright. and it was in 8-bit, with the absolute coolest soundtrack.
when you got to stu’s house (with billy of course at your side, eyes leaving you so so briefly every few moments), you slid the disk into his parents’ computer, watching it boot up. you, in the desk chair, and the boys at each of your sides. you caught them with wide eyes, enamored, eager to see the next big thing that happened.
“oh! right there, knife her, man!” stu cheered, watching as you clicked the corresponding arrow; the two of them whooping and hollering when the player character slashed the babysitter up, splashing pixelated blood across the screen.
“can i go next?” billy asked with a broad, mischievous grin as your victory message popped up on the screen. he and stu shared a look you couldn’t really figure out, but that seemed harmless enough.
“oh, and then me, dude!” stu chortled, grinning ear to ear, leaning in closer to you. their eyes were bright like a child on christmas morning, eager to see how many bloody scenes they could play out.
you each unlocked new scenes throughout the night, and by sunrise, you’d beat the whole game.
“man…. this is way better than psycho…” you heard stu yawn as day broke into the window behind the three of you.
excited by the prospect of expanding the boys’ horizons, you went over to your overnight bag, pulling out two more things. books; horror novels, which you loved so dearly. though the boys weren’t really known for their activity with literature. “if you like that game, i think you’d really like these—…” you offered up, the boys turning to look at you as a final congratulatory cutscene finished playing on the screen.
they shared a look. “alright.. but only if you read them to us,” stu confirmed. you had a feeling you’d be in for a few more all-nighters at this rate. and you were so excited for the prospect.
Haha! A scream thing where Billy calls reader and reader’s a ‘walk around and talk’ person.
Billy asks the line and right in the middle of talking reader fuckin stacks it so there’s just this crash and yelp and then silence and Billy doesn’t know what to do.
He kind of just goes quiet and then asks if reader’s ok and there’s a groan and a quiet answer.
I do this thing where I post something even though I know it needs a description and a better title/tags. This is what that is, and if you’re seeing this a second time, I'm sorry. Look at me over here acting like I'm gonna write a second part before Halloween/at all and just completely not doing it lmao
Summary: It’s spooky season in the Outer Banks and the pogues and kooks are settling into a movie marathon until JJ opens his mouth.
-
“Is everyone tucked into their spots with all of their desired snacks?”
A chorus of voices responded to Sarah, a few anonymous popcorn kernels landing at her feet.
“Whatever, assholes, enjoy the movie.”
You were wrapped up in Pope when the movie began. Ignoring the irritating commentary coming from JJ, who sat only a few feet away on the same couch.
“This is so ridiculous. The hot girls always die, they should know better.”
“They’re acting, J,” you responded, “it’s not up to them.”
“Yeah obviously.”
“Maybank,” Rafe’s voice came from somewhere behind you, “shut the fuck up. This is a theater and you need to be quiet.”
A round of applause erupted, most likely Kelce and Topper, before everyone finally got invested in the opening scene.
You never told me your name.
Why do you want to know my name?
I want to know who I’m looking at?
What did you say?
I want to know who I’m talking to.
That’s not what you said.
What do you think I said?
“She thought she was just talking to some creep but it was actually her fucking killer! What an idiot!”
You jumped at the sound of JJ’s voice, causing Pope to be startled with you.
“I hate watching movies with him,” he leaned into you and whispered in your ear, “because he does this shit and spoils everything.”
You had no idea how Sarah managed to get your current company in the same room to watch a movie together.
The guests watching in the Cameron’s personal movie theater consisted of: John B, JJ, Pope, Kiara, Sarah, Rafe, Topper, Kelce, and yourself. It was an odd group of people but both the kooks and pogues wanted to use the theater to watch scary shit on the night before Halloween, so they had to compromise.
Listen, asshole!
No, you listen, you little bitch! You hang up on me again, I’ll gut you like a fish! You understand?!
Is this some kind of joke?
More of a game, really. Can you handle that, blondie?
“Shit,” JJ shoved a handful of popcorn into his mouth, “this bitch is about to die!”
“JJ!” You, Kiara and Sarah shouted in unison as laughter came from the kooks behind you.
“Fine, fine! I’m done talking for the rest of the night.”
“Sure you are.”

“Hi, this is Gale Weathers with an exclusive account of this amazing breaking story. Several more local teens are dead, bringing to an end the harrowing mystery of the masked killings that have terrified this peaceful community like the plot of some scary move. It all began with a scream of 911, and ended in a bloodbath that has rocked the town of Woodsboro..”
Everyone in the room was silent, waiting for JJ to inject his opinion about the end of the movie. It didn’t take long.
“The movie was good but,” you bit your lip as you waited for his ridiculous response, “the real scares are here.”
“What?”
“You heard me, kook, the real scares are here.”
“Explain yourself, pogue,” Rafe clipped, “because there is nothing fucking spooky about the Outer Banks.”
“Come on,” JJ leaned across the couch to nudge Pope’s shoulder, “we all know about the haunted house on the cut.”
“I don’t,” Kelce responded with genuine interest, “do you have something to share, Maybank?”
“Seriously? You kooks know nothing about the Kent house?”
“Is that some shit you made up for attention,” Topper questioned, “because no one wants to give it to you.”
“No,” JJ rolled his eyes, “it’s real shit and you’re an asshole. You’ll probably die first.”
“Don’t be a prick, JJ, tell us the story.”
“Fine,” he scoffed and crossed his arms as he leaned back against the couch, “I can’t believe no one other than me and Pope know the story.”
“Tell us the story or shut up so we can watch the next movie,” Rafe responded.
“We need a good setting for this story. This rich bitch movie theater won’t do. Do you kooks have bonfires?”

you’d been dragged to the party by one of your friends, echoes of ‘it’ll be so much fun!’ ringing in your ears as you slipped your binder over your head and adjusted it. over that you’d decided to do what you assumed many other attendees of the party would be doing: slipping into a ghostface costume. in poor taste? maybe, but then nobody would ever recognize you, and if you did something embarrassing, there’d be no chance that they could pin it on you because there’d be a hundred other dopes dressed just like you.
little did you know, your all-time biggest crush ever had the exact same idea, but for a slightly different reason. stu macher was the life of the party as always when you arrived with your friend, who dipped out upon seeing their biggest crush ever, mister billy loomis. you sighed; typical. this was how high school costume parties went, that was for sure. you took a seat on the couch where the crowd had gathered to listen to stu speak, surrounded by a couple other people predictably dressed just like you.
gosh, he was so funny, wasn’t he? and so cute.. you could cry. heat built up in your face and you had to hurry off, the mask not nearly enough space between you to prevent you from melting into the couch cushions. you went out to the garage to get a drink, as someone had mentioned in passing that it was the ideal place to go for such a thing.
you’d just opened the door to the garage and snuck in when you heard footsteps behind you. luckily you still had your mask on; or else whoever it was would see how much they’d startled you. beer bottle clasped in hand, you looked up to see it was none other than stu macher. you blushed deep under your mask, silent as he approached.
“strong silent type, huh?” he chuckled at you, grinning that grin. you managed to offer a shrug. he laughed again. “well, you seem pretty cool to me at least…” he said, taking a beer of his own out of the garage fridge. “hey, you wanna see something?” he asked, rifling under his dark costume to grab something out of his pants’ pocket. a walkie talkie, maybe? he put it up to his mouth with a wicked grin. “what’s your favorite scary movie?” he breathed into the device; it warped his voice into something spooky, making you shudder. “yeah, scary, huh?” he said proudly, tucking it back away. “don’t tell anybody, though, or else i’ll have to…” he crept up towards you, hands up in a flash to startle you by grabbing your shoulders and giving you a shake. “getcha!” he exclaimed, making you gasp in surprise, before giggling nervously. “oh, you’ve got a nice laugh,” he complemented off-handedly. his eyes caught the clock on the wall for a moment and he looked suddenly like he was in a rush. “shit.. hey, i’ll see you around, okay? don’t be a stranger!” he said as he whipped around, rushing off back into the house.
