Something that might be common knowledge in other parts of the fandom but that was new to me:

I was looking at Curufin's Tolkien Gateway page and noticed a line that I hadn't before: when describing the Dagor Bragollach, it noted that "In F.A. 457 Morgoth sent a great force, under the command of his lieutenant Sauron, to capture the tower Minis Tirith, which guarded the Pass of Sirion. The fortress was eventually taken and its lord, Orodreth, was driven out where he would have been slain if not for the intervention of Celegorm and Curufin; they arrived with their riders and other such forces they could gather and fought fiercely, allowing Orodreth to escape and retreat to Nargothrond."

It cites this as being written of in The War of the Jewels in HoME not The Silmarillion, so whether or not you take it as canon is up to you, but I feel like that adds an extra dimension to the later Nargothrond dynamics that's fun to think about.

#silmarillion #acrylic gouache #chalk pastel #galadriel #finrod #turgon #orodreth #small orodreth they have kidnapped him for a fishing adventure #if findarato would stand back up and stop poking the crab they could get it into the boat much faster #no offense meant to orodreth hes doing his best but his best is not a lot.#galadriel has a knife but it is not a metal one it is a nice shiny shell one. in honor of last week when i tried to sand down a sharp-edged #clam shell and instead made a very pretty razor. whoops. left a concerning amount of blood on a rock by the river but im fine.#i love turgon i need to paint him more but i keep including him in things that i end up dissatisfied with and never posting.#yes believe it or not the volume of elf art i make is actually substantially higher than what you see. i just hate 65% of it #fun facts about the boat there is actually a stabilizing outrigger attached to large poles on the other side but i drew about 1/2 an #inch of the poles and nothing else because of the angle i decided to draw at so where does that leave us.#also yes the trees. they are sailing along the eastern coast and laurelin is currently peaking in supernatural tree light rays #the trees are very funny to me sometimes because in order to produce any sort of significant light surely they have made the regions #closest to them completely uninhabitable for anyone with eyes for most of the day.#puzzling tree based questions aside they are also just magical trees. its a magical tree that glows it doesnt make sense. its allowed to #not make sense. i am guilty of the eternal plague of the mind that is taking things to seriously and at the end of the day they are magical #glowing trees that are made by a spirit that is sometimes a woman sometimes a tree sometimes a concept sometimes an emotionally #volatile elf and her friend the one who is always crying forever. so i feel her magical trees may have some illogical magical properties #this is all a really funny long justification for allowing myself to use cadmium yellow as much as possible i love cadmium yellow #also yes eagle eyed viewers if this is reminding you of something you are RIGHT as a child i was able to view a huge local collection #of max beckmann paintings at least once a week for years and years on end and i really love max beckmann. departure was not one of the #triptychs i have been able to see but i do still love it. anyways.#its actually important to me that galadriel is the one killing the fish. i will bring it up again.#peace and love bye.#art

I found Darth Fingon's (great name by the way) list of 'Twenty-Two Words You Never Thought Tolkien Would Provide' and it's hillarious.

gwî or gwib is the Gnomish word for Penis. Gnomish is the precursor of Noldorin which is the precursor of Sindar (if i understand it right.) I'm not super sure what that would make Gonmish in universe (probably just some old dialect)

I would have loved to draw a Gwindor design after his imprisonment in Angband but that wouldn't have made any sense, so he just looks like every other Noldo.

I always felt bad for Orodreth and Finduilas ending up stuck between the Doom of the Noldor and Morgoth's curse on Turin

I'm pretty happy with this design, I might have to find an excuse to draw him again sometime
