“Okay, Coiny… You can do this,” Coiny said to himself as he straightened his tie. He wasn’t nervous; he had nothing to be nervous about! Nope! Nothing at all! Not a thing… Okay, he might have something extremely important going on tomorrow that will change both his and Pin’s lives forever, but he just CAN’T think about it right now! He just has to think about anything else other than the incredibly important life changing commitment that he is about to make or else he is going to go crazy!
About a week ago, Coiny had finally mustered up the courage to ask PIn to marry him. He had loved her ever since he competed against her in BFDI, and he finally was able to convince himself that she loved him, too! It did take a while, though. For several years, he just… didn’t feel like he deserved her… didn’t feel like he earned the right to love her. And, if he were to be honest with himself, that is mostly why he took so long to ask her in the first place. And, if he were even more honest with himself, that is why he finds himself hesitating to get ready for his big day. He still doesn’t feel like he’s earned her love.
He is shaken out of his thoughts by an urgent series of raps on the door of his dressing room. Fiery, his best man, walked in with a bag of food from Gelatin’s steakhouse. He was talking about something that Coiny didn’t catch when he first walked in, but when Firey’s eyes met Coiny’s, he stopped in his tracks.
“Wh-what?” Coiny joked as he pointed at his face, “Come on, Fiery, surely I don’t look that bad in this suit?”
But, when Firey didn’t respond to his self-jab as he normally would have, Coiny decided to look in the mirror at his face again.
He was… crying? What- when did he start crying? What is going on-?! Okay, no, he can’t act out like this; he can’t worry people, not on today of all days. This is supposed to be his, and more importantly, Pin’s big day! He would feel even more terrible if he managed to ruin today or make it anything less than perfect. And even if Pin found it in her heart to forgive him, which would give him more evidence that he doesn’t deserve her, he would never ever be able to forgive himself.
“Coiny-”“O-oh! Hey, F-Firey! Fancy seeing you here!” Coiny internally facepalmed, he was being anything BUT normal right now. He’s not done yet, though; he can still save this.
“O-oh, this?” Coiny asked as he pointed at his face again, not noticing that his hand was shaking before continuing, “Y-you just caught me right as I finished washing my face! Ha…”
“...Coiny,” Firey said before sighing, shaking his head, and walking towards the venue’s balcony, “Come with me.”
Coiny stiffly got up and followed behind.
As Firey leaned against the railing, Coiny picked up his pace and immediately stood next to him. Firey let out a deep sigh and turned to the groom, his gaze far gentler than before.
“Coiny,” he said, “what's really going on
here?”
“N-nothing! What are you talking about? Th-there’s-there’s not-”
“Coiny!” Fiery cried as his hands were suddenly placed on Coiny’s shoulders, making the groom flinch. He sighed before continuing, “You know you can be honest with me… right?”
“...yeah, i-it’s just… I don’t know. I’m just overwhelmed, I guess?” Coiny gave a halfhearted shrug before turning away from his best man. He wanted to tell Firey about all of the doubts that were plaguing his every waking hour, he just didn’t know how to begin. There was just so much that he was thinking about, and he didn’t want to just dump that on his best friend right before his wedding! No, he just couldn’t!
“Yeah, I get that,” Firey said, “well, I don't ‘get-get’ it because I've never been married before, but I get it.”
“...thanks, Firey.”
“I'm serious-!”
“I know, I know,” Coiny sighed, “Sorry, I guess everything is just a lot right now… I just kinda wish I could be able to actually think about the wedding without feeling this… dread? Is that normal?! Should I just call it off?! What should I-”
Coiny was cut off with a sudden, hardy slap.
“Pull yourself together, Coinster!” Firey yelled at the man while shaking him. The longer that Coiny tried to deflect from Firey’s line of questioning, the harder he was shaken. Eventually, as the shaking got more and more intense, Coiny sighed and had enough, it having broken what little resolve he had left.
“OKAY, OKAY! YOU CAN STOP SHAKING ME NOW!” He screeched as he wrangled Firey’s hands off of him.
Coiny then huffed playfully before a smirk worked its way onto his face, Fiery’s antics making him feel slightly better despite how vehemently he protested. Now, the main question is just what should he do now? Should he just lay it all out there or should he sort of divvy it up and show only a little bit at a time? He wouldn’t want to overwhelm Firey. After all, he is the one who offered to help in the first place, Coiny wouldn’t want to “honor” such generosity with a dump of his self-deprecating and inane ramblings about his WEDDING that is TOMORROW! Agh, why couldn’t his feelings just be simple and easy for one singular night!
“S-so… umm,” Coiny started before he itched his neck and looked away, “I’m not really sure on just where to start with this. I mean, there’s just so much going on right now that I can’t really… decide on where to begin.”
“Hm,” Firey hummed thoughtfully, “...maybe you could start at the beginning?”
“...Yeah, I think I’ll start there.”
“Can I get you something to eat or drink first?”
“Some water would be great, thanks.”
“...wow, that’s… wow. Yeah, that’s a lot, alright,” Firey empathized as he took a swig of his cup of coffee.
“Yeah, it’s been a bit much lately- not that that’s yours or Pin’s or anyone’s fault! I love all of you guys so much… it’s just that Pin is so amazing and beautiful and gracious and competitive and I’m… I’m just me.” Coiny sighed and drank a sip of his water before running his fingers through his hair.
“Coiny, come on, you’re so much more than that!”
“It’s just that… I don't know…”
“Hey, have you talked to Pin about this? I mean, since it’s about her maybe not liking her, it might be nice to see how she feels.”
Fiery was right; he knew he was right. As much as he just wanted to bury all that he is feeling right now and never let Pin catch even a whiff of the idea that something is wrong and that he is having second thoughts, Coiny knows that it would probably be best to ask her for help. It wouldn't be fair if he didn't. After all, Pin’s been very open with him, hasn’t she? It’s only fair that he is in return, despite whatever reservations he holds. He just doesn’t want to potentially ruin the relationship between him and his future wife over something that just seems so… silly! Agh!
…But, maybe, just maybe, Firey had a point. So, with a weary sigh, Coiny conceded: “Ok, Firey, you win. I'll go talk to her.”
By the time Coiny arrived at Pin's door, his nerves were all but shot. He was so extremely close to just cutting his losses, hightailing it back to his house, and just trying to sleep it off, but he knew that it would only get worse. As much as he wishes that there was literally any other way for him to assuage his fears, this is the only way. Coiny breathed in, let it out, and softly knocked on Pin’s door. When he didn’t get a response, he knocked harder.
“Coming in a second!” Pin called out. Coiny, not wanting to intrude on his fiance whom he also deeply hopes will not abandon or leave him after he speaks with her, not that he thinks she will! He’s just so nervous and anxious and sort of freaking out and-
“COINY?!” Pin yelped as she opened the door before closing it again quickly. “Coiny, what are you doing here?! You’re not supposed to see me yet! The groom isn’t supposed to see the bride before the wedding! You should know this by now, Coiny! What are you even-”
“Pin, please,” he choked out, his tone giving Pin pause. She hadn’t heard him sound so heartbroken ever since… Pin had first lost her limbs and face. But, compared to his voice now, it doesn’t hold nearly as much sorrow or… is that grief? What could he be grieving? What happened to him?
After some thought, she throws open the door. When she sees Coiny, her heart just shatters. His hair is disheveled with several odds and ends sticking out at random places. His face, oh, his poor, poor face. His eyes were puffy from, what looks to be, him crying the entire way over to her house. Last, but certainly least, his suit was in such a state of wear and tear that it’s a wonder it’s still on him at all. It has been cut and ripped in so many places, and it even has sticks poking out of it from him running! Oh Coiny, her poor Coiny. She has to get to the bottom of this.
“Come in, Coiny,” She said while gently taking his hand and guiding him to her couch. He was shaking so badly… it hurt her so much to see him like this. “What happened-”
“Do you love me?”
Her entire body froze… what? What spurred this on?! Was she not affectionate enough? Or maybe she teased him one too many times? Oh no, oh no, oh no!
“C-Coiny?! What-” She cried before cutting herself off after she saw Coiny flinch. Pin then, very hesitantly, continued in a much softer cadence. “What do you mean, Coiny? Have I… done something wrong?”
Coiny’s eyes instantly widened, his pupils being reduced to nothing more than tiny pinpricks. “N-NO!” He yelled before covering his mouth in shame. Pin flinched from his volume before her expression softened again.
He shakily cleared his throat before answering, “N-no… You didn't do anything wrong, Pin. It's just…” He then sighed.
“I don't know if I can do this.”
“Wh-what? What do you mean-”
“I don't know if I can get married to you tomorrow.”
Pin's breathing stopped as she gasped, her hands shaking clutching her pearls. She also began to slightly quiver and shake as she attempted to stutter out a response.
“Wh-why..? C-Coiny, why do you- do you n-not-” Pin paused before taking a shaky breath and continuing. “Why do you not want to get married anymore?”
“Pin, it's not,” He sighed and hung his head. “It's not that simple.”
“Coiny, n-no, please, explain it to me! Tell me what I did wrong!”
Coiny merely grit his teeth at the question but said nothing, instead opting out to just cross his arms and look away from his, now ex, fiance, closing himself off.
“Please, Coiny, just tell me something, anything!” Pin begged before reaching out to the man in front of her. Right as her hand was planted on his shoulder, however, Coiny snapped. He stood up, stepped back, threw her hand off of him, and lashed out, “STOP WASTING YOUR TIME ON ME AND GIVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY DESERVES IT!”
The declaration hung in the air long after Coiny had said it. It was so emotional, so visceral that there was no way that he could sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn’t happen. He had to live with it, and it had to live with whatever consequences came from it. So, with that thought, he waited. Steeling his eyes shut and willing himself to barely even breathe, he just stood there, waiting for Pin to react. But, when she didn't, he tentatively opened his eyes, and what he saw made his stomach drop. It wasn’t so much what Pin was doing, no, it was how she was looking at Coiny that was making his heart skip a beat: she was gazing at him with such a soft, tender look in her eyes like he was the only thing worth watching in the world. Despite the flushness that was scorching his cheeks, he ripped his eyes away from the floor.
“Oh, Coiny,” Pin cooed, her face drenched in pity and her movements slow as she gently cupped his cheeks. And, when her partner leaned into it, her heart melted. She knew that Coiny had struggled with his self-image before, but this… this was something that she had no clue about.
“Come on,” She murmured as she coaxed him next to her on the couch, his face still in her hands, “Talk to me, Coiny.”
He sighed before turning to her as she continued to sweetly run her hand along his cheek. It was so soothing… This reminded him of how the two of them were when they first met all those years ago, all the way back in BFDI. He smiled softly as he recalled those days. Oh, how bright eyed and bushy-tailed the two of them used to be. And, sure, life hadn’t been kind to either of them(Pin especially with everything that happened in BFDIA), but they could always find solace in each other’s embrace. He sighed deeply at the memories, for once the sigh being one of relief instead of weariness, and spoke, “I-It’s just… You do so much for me, Pin. I-I’m just scared that I’m not doing enough for you.”
Her expression somehow softened even further as she pulled him in closer, their noses almost touching.
“Oh, Coiny,” She repeated, nothing ebbing from her expression but pure, unadulterated fondness. “You do so much for me, Honey.”
The uncommon nicknames sets the man’s nerves alight as his face burns with an oh so familiar flame. Pin always knew exactly what to say to get Coiny to feel better. How did she do it? And, more importantly, how did he manage to get someone as amazing as her to be in the same room as him, let alone agree to be his until death… Just what was there to him?
“Pin, this is serious,” Coiny gritted out, reluctantly taking his face from his lover’s hands once more. “P-please, I don’t want you joking around right now, not about us.”
Pin’s eyebrows furrowed as she nodded and sat her hands in her lap. The last thing she wanted was for Coiny to think she wasn’t taking him or their relationship seriously, especially not now. Coiny sighed before eventually, after several minutes of prodding from Pin, beginning to spill out all of the woes that had been plaguing his mind.
“P-Pin, it’s just… you’re so remarkable and amazing, and you always do so much. But me? All I do is get in your way! Like-like in BFDIA, when I tried to pull you out of the Underworld! I couldn’t do it right! It was supposed to be so simple, but I still couldn’t do it! And, not to mention there have been times where I have been wanting you to lose, Pin! Like, who does that to someone that they love!” He clutched his hair with his shaking hands as he forced one last phrase out of his throat: “I don’t know why you’re still with me.”
Another tense silence falls between the two of them after that, one that was far longer than last time. During the silence, there were multiple things running through Pin’s head. First and foremost, she was wondering just how she didn’t notice it before. She did always have a suspicion that Coiny was hiding something under the surface, but she had no idea it was anything like… this. While that idea was infecting most of her thoughts, another topic that was beginning to rear its ugly head was this: where do the two of them do from here? Coiny himself was also pondering the same thing. There was no way for him to pretend this didn’t happen, after all, that had been all but beaten into him based on how this whole thing was amounting to. But still, oh, how tempted he was to try anyway. The only reason he hadn’t broken down completely yet was because of this futile hope that things could go back to normal, but unfortunately for him, this would never happen…Or, that’s what he first thought until Pin finally spoke.
“Coiny… is that really what you think?” She started, a hint of incredulousness seeping into her voice before she caught it. And then, after reminding herself that she needs to approach this gently, she continued, “Honey, you’re so much more than that. You’re one of the nicest people I know, not to mention handsome.” She playfully elbowed him at that last statement, making a shaky smile light up his face. She smiled back.
“Sure, you mess up sometimes, but doesn’t everyone? Believe it or not, you pulling me back up to Yoyleland, even if it didn’t bring my face and limbs back, helped me more than you could possibly know. If you hadn’t come for me… I’m not sure I would have made it back on my own. And you’re worried because you wanted me to lose once? Do you remember how brutal I was, even back when we first started dating? H-ha, I would get so mad when you won ANYTHING… I’m surprised you still put up with me after that. You’re too hard on yourself, Coiny; you don’t give yourself enough credit.”
Pin then, not knowing what to say, simply hugged Coiny. He flinched and froze, not knowing what to do and not wanting to mess anything up. Eventually, though, he slowly brought his arms up around Pin and returned her embrace.
Today was finally the day! Today was Coiny’s and Pin’s wedding! And, following the conversation between the two of them last night, they were doing better than ever! After they talked, and after Coiny reassured Pin that he would be okay if he went home alone, the two of them got their respective things ready and slept, each one extremely excited to spend the rest of their lives with the other. And, when Pin was walking down the aisle, she looked to her bridesmaids(Bubble, Needle, and Teardrop) and smiled at them, silently thanking them for all that they have done for her thus far. At the same time, Coiny gazed at his groomsmen(Firey, Snowball, and Tennis Ball) and gave them a friendly wave. He then looked at Pin, and he just froze. She. Was. STUNNING! She was wearing a ball gown wedding dress with a train and a veil. For her makeup, she was going for a more natural look aside from her intense cat eye and mascara and, oh, Coiny’s heart could just explode!
When Pin made it all of the way down the aisle and faced Coiny, Leafy, who was their priest, cleared her throat and began her procession.
“Welcome all of you who are near and dear,” she said as she read off a notecard, “We gather here today under this roof to celebrate the union of Pin and Coiny, standing in the warm glow of love, commitment, and lifelong adventure. The happy couple could’ve taken this big step alone, but they’ve invited you as their family and friends to share their joy and love.”
After waiting a moment to let that all sink in, Leafy stashed the cards away in her breast pocket and continued, going slightly off of the script, “Alright! Before we exchange vows, I would just like to say how happy and honored I am to witness this wedding today. I also think that I speak for everyone when I say just how happy I am to see you two doing so well! Let’s give it up for the bride and groom, everybody!”
A round of applause went through all of the wedding attendees, and it went on for a good couple minutes before eventually dying out. Leafy then spoke again, “Okay! Coiny, Pin, you may now exchange your vows.”
After a couple tries that do nothing but make the two of them laugh as they accidentally talk at the same time, Coiny said his vows, “Before you, Pin, I didn’t believe in ‘love at first sight.’ I’d heard people talk about it, of course, but I just wasn’t convinced. But, the second I locked eyes with you, I just knew that you were the one for me.” He then sniffled. “I love you so much, and you are my choice, now and forever.”
Then, Pin gave her vows, “Coiny, when I look into your eyes, I see more than just your face, I see you. I see the man. literally, who went to the end of the world for me. I see the man who tried to get me back when no one else did. And, most importantly, I see the man that I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with. I love you so much, Coiny, and till death do us part.”
Then, the two of them put on their rings, Coiny putting Pin’s on for her and vice versa. As Coiny lifted his wife’s veil, another series of applause rippled through the crowd. Everyone was just so happy to be there, and Coiny and Pin could really just feel the love radiating off of not just the friends they brought but also from each other. There was nowhere else in the entire world that they wanted to be other than where they were at this moment. Leafy cleared her throat again, “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may now kiss the bride!” Coiny kissed Pin, and she leaned into it before breaking contact. The two of them then turned to the crowd, waved, and looked forward to spending the rest of their lives with each other.
When the two of them finally got back to Pin’s house, which is where they both decided to spend the night, they each felt so much lighter. It just felt so… right. They each felt like they were exactly where they needed to be, and they were so happy to finally be wed. But, even after all of that, Coiny couldn’t shake the feeling that something was… off. Even as Pin pulled him into bed next to her, and even as she conked out the second her head hit her pillow, he couldn’t stop thinking. After some time, he just admitted defeat and hung his head as he sat on his bedside. After almost an hour of this, his stream of consciousness was interrupted by a groan and a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back to bed.
“Come on, Coiny,” Pin mumbled, her voice nearly incoherent from her being asleep just moments ago. Coiny sighed as he shuffled under the covers. He hated that he was bothering her with this again, and, just as he was about to apologize for it, he felt Pin’s hand sloppily smush against his lips, shushing him. He chuckled quietly silently thanking her for stopping his rambling. Oh, how happy he is to have married her. He really couldn’t think about spending his life with anyone else. She is always just so nice and understanding to him, it’s a wonder as to why he was even worried in the first place! And, as he felt himself getting closer and closer to the land of slumber, all he could think about was how excited he was for the rest of his life. And, with a kiss to his new wife’s hand, he finally gives in, succumbing to his sleepiness and dreaming of the life he can’t wait to live.
BEWARE rant below about fourx
Am I the only one who...kinda really dosent like that they gave X powers on par with four's?
It felt like that really contributed to four and X feeling really bland and similar recently which has made me really dislike X as a character because if four does something cool/has lines/makes an appearance at all it feels like it HAS to revolve around X.
Unfortunately it feels like the only reason JnJ shows these characters anymore is to tease the shippers
X used to be a relatively decent character but recently he just grates on my nerves, I used to see why people would ship FourX (hint: because of the contrast) bit now it just feels very, very forced to me.
I mean...look at early BFB you had two fully distinct characters that could successfully operate on their own but by the time we reach TPOT it feels like they're just the same character in two separate bodies.
Idk, am I the only one tired of the endless shipper bait?
No hate to fourx shippers by the way, y'all are lovely people!
Hihi!
Based on this silly photo (stan ShrimpTea):
Oki bai ❤️💙
I am scared for (if) the day comes a second ii ship is canonized. 🥲
Same.
Sometimes when a ship is canonized people just flip on it and start hating. It SUCKS.
