Patrochilles dolls: COMPLETE!!!!!*
I’ll skip the preamble… HERE THEY ARE!!!
I started them during spring break, meaning it took me exactly 3 months to get them done (as long as you don’t count the additional 8 months of me watching videos, reading books, gathering materials & inspiration, practicing skills, etc…!) I think it was all worth it because I’m really pleased and proud of myself for how they turned out <3
For both dolls I wanted them to have long, voluminous, luscious curly hair, living up to the “long-haired Greeks” epithet of the Iliad, which is why I had to make so many hair pieces for them (9 all together!) Their backs mirror one another, and their eyes are also matching (the only design differences besides color being the eyebrows and Achilles having upturned upper eyelashes while Patroclus’ are downturned.)
I inserted doll skeletons into both bodies for posing purposes (they can sit and lift their arms and necks) as well as magnets into both hands… it’s a bit hard to tell in the above pic (they just have SO MUCH HAIR) but if they stand together as they do in Elysium, with Patroclus on the left and Achilles on the right (heh) they’ll be able to hold hands while simultaneously holding onto weapons in their opposite hands.
Achilles
Achilles’ Hades design gives him blue eyes, but I gave him a more TSOA-inspired scheme with the greens and bronzy browns and coppery orange. The gold flowers in his irises are meant to be yarrow (aka achillea millefolium, the medicinal plant named after him.) Perhaps my favorite feature of his Hadesgame design is the curly side-part and fillet… sooo 1980s aerobicscore (get that man in some leg warmers and a lycra leotard STAT!) and the hair bulging where his fillet is wrapped around it is THE key moe point to me, so I was extremely conscious about incorporating it into my design. The ringlet on the right is also meant to be his shorn lock of hair from Pat’s funeral. The most difficult part with him was finding the right combo of colors… I think the buttery yellow color I eventually picked for the hair washes out the olivey skin tone a bit, but perhaps as a shade it’s fitting for him, lol.
Patroclus
Patroclus’ brown and black colors are accented with hot pink and ice blue, colors I think all go really well together, as well as the latter two incorporating the color scheme of Elysium. His irises are forget-me-nots, evoking the Lethe and Achilles of the Iliad vowing to never forget him even in death. The biggest challenge with Patroclus was getting the beard right… I love the angular, square-shaped design of it in Hades but I wasn’t really sure how to translate it into 3D doll form. I’m pleased with the simple route I took however (especially since even the simple route was kind of a headache getting it into the right position while also fitting in the rest of his facial features) but I like how the cheek darts blended in with the whisker embroidery… a happy accident, haha.
So, asterisk: even though the dolls themselves are complete, they’re obviously still a bit naked, yeah? Which means I’m not putting down the sewing supplies just yet! I have an additional collection of materials gathered for their clothes and accessories. The fillet/laurel crown they’re wearing in the photos aren’t actually finished yet either (they’re still being held up with pins lol.) So, the saga continues for now, and of course I’ll update as I go!
In the meantime, I have them stored safe in their carrying case, wearing some “baby” clothes I bought for them uwu (Forrest Gump voice) these boys go together like cheese and tomata~~
stuck at home day 2026
I borrowed the pattern of the stuffed toy body from the stuffed idol Tacute-chan.
It's a plush toy Baldwin.
I extended the limbs a bit to make it easier to craft armor.
