The Anti-Terrorism Law of 2020 or the 'amendment' of the Human Security Act of 2007 will take effect in less than 4 hours here in the Philippines. Ironically, this law enables law enforcers and "appointed officers" to:

wiretap + monitor the people's personal phone/gadget/social media/information/PRIVATE LIFE

freeze anybody's assets upon suspicion of being a terrorist

arrest+ detain people for up to TWO MONTHS upon SUSPICION of being a terrorist or joining an ALLEGED terrorism activity/gathering WITHOUT ANY WARRANT OR CASE FILED AGAINST YOU

with the current administration's infamous extra-judicial killings/War on Drugs/Oplan Tokhang projscts which killed many, many innocent people, the law enforcers can most likely abuse their power and kill and endanger the lives of dissent and opposition—that being activists and critics of the government

anybody can be judged as guilty until proven innocent

This enhancement of the "Human Security Act of 2007" does not aim to make things secure for the people. It violatws the people further and thus is it state terrorism!

I am honestly scared and enraged because many people want their voices of injustice to be heard through activism.

Jeepney drivers, farmers, human rights advocates, low-class workers, the urban poor—as activists, we express our voices for them. We stand with them. Some do not have mediums like internet and social media to reach out, kasi lugmok na sila sa kahirapan and they reach out to the administration through rallies and public statements, talks and seminars, various programs that teach us, the petite bourgeoisie of the REAL SITUATIONS and experiences of the proletatiat masses. What will we do if these actions of speaking up and asking for help are completely trashed and incriminated by the government?

It is the end for human rights? I plead for people around the globe to help us junk this terror law because it shuts out the bleakest light of democracy that we have in the Philippines. The people are tired and abused enough. The leadership is not working out well for this country. We are scared, we are trampled on, we are angry, and we need your help.

Welcome to the country of clowns, may you enjoy your stay.

In a carnival we can here laughs, screams of excitement and sniff the whipped sweet scents of sugars coming from a cotton candy. There are so many rides to choose from: some suited for little children in awe to innocence and happiness and some are more enjoyed by the adults with their little heart pumps, a drive of desire and skin ship. It is a very promising place like a dreamy kind of vibe where the lights twinkle at night. This is a place we could laugh and enjoy, a promise of ease and love. Now, let’s play.

Welcome to the carnival of clowns, may you enjoy your stay.

The quiet push ups, the pamphlets handled to everyone during day encouraging people to engage to a promise that this bill won’t make anything wrong and this is a safe haven. A promise of slowing down, a statement that says that this bill will make the people be more at is. That there is no rush in approving but the fact that more people stayed silent, withdrew and mute the questions of the residents isn’t it a little way of neglecting us? A commercial of lies coated in beautiful lights. A show of bragging. A distraction to your scams.

Welcome to the carnival: Where you could smile, please don’t open your eyes.

The parade has started. The flashes of acts of acrobatics, the show of a lion being thrown in fire. A masquerade of killers. Close your eyes, be at ease. Enjoy the show. 

Butterflies fly at night, the carpets has been rolled. The red fresh blood of the magician drips on his swords and the compilation of the tongues that cut the freedom to shout is on the table it is waiting for more. The parade of the night soldiers has put everyone in ordinance, but when someone started to smile and shout an eerie silent filled the laughs. This is a carnival of clowns, where you can’t talk for yourself.

Paint the walls with the fresh bloods of the warriors and the bodies of the civilians who have been oppressed by their rights mountain up as the people in color blue uniforms guard, ah I remembered how they laugh as they chase like a cat hunting a mouse. A favorite line ringed on my mind.

“Little mouse, little mouse come out to your hiding... let’s play.”

This ain’t a joke.

This is a game of bravery and cowardliness. This is a matter of who to seek and when to seek. This is a shout from the people who are oppressed by their own country.

Welcome to the carnival: A modern personification of a jail.

Where the bodies lays on the ground.

The rides are muffled, stitched by blood.

The cotton candies stinks of lies and murder.

The ticket booths and holla hoops are marked by heads of the warriors who tried to escape this carnival of clowns.

The shows are for the people who dress in golds and all they can do is to laugh at a girl who just wanted to be heard. A country crying for freedom and peace.

We didn’t signed up for this.

But this is the only thing served by incompetency of the realm.

We either die in poisons or die relieving from the freedom we are fighting.

Welcome to the country full of clowns, paint us in red, blue and white. And let our stars and the sun be our symbol.

Welcome to this country lead by a clown, juries by animals and suits made of fake plaques. 

This is where democracy dies.

So this happened on r/ph yesterday, exactly on the Philippines' 122nd commemoration of our independence.

I'm not sure how many hours r/ph had been out or if they did a full 24-hour blackout but it did manage to strike a chord with my fellow Filipino redditors. The blackout, with just a piece of text. reminding us to continue our plight against all the injustices around us-- And here comes a quote by Nick Joaquin; one that made me shiver.

More censorship may be a cure that's worse than the disease, for we would be surrendering freedom of judgement in exchange for peace of mind.

No patriotic posts were made that day, no funny memes were available for consumption, no inquiries on where to get affordable commuting bicycles were made. Only silence and a still, boiling rage for what seemed like a simple social media platform like reddit was actually an avenue where Filipinos can collaborate and scrutinize what is happening with the country and voice out ideas on how to make the Philippines get back on her feet.

The point of the blackout was clear. It was giving us the taste of how life would be with our voices taken out. Sure, the government would allow us to ask about where to get commuter bikes and where we could register them. But when we start asking the real questions and hold officials accountable for their missed opportunities this government of ours would never hesitate to call us out as terrorists. Shame on us for giving this devil of an administration several chances to make it up for us. The president, even before he got elected showed tell-tale signs of being inconsistent and an unapologetic madman. First he tells the public that he has no intention of running as president, he just loved the attention that he was getting that maybe to him, we were just begging to have him as president.

Things are just starting to get worse for the Philippines. A leader that doesn't have dignity-- can't even dress decently like presenting yourself properly to the Filipino people didn't deserve his attention. With all the lies that he has said so far, I wouldn't he surprised if he says "I will not run for a second term" because bitch we know you won't run for a second term... You will own the second term by force. You will make this government your own and then for China. You want to end the NPA? Fuck it, the NPA only has around 5,300 fighters remaining and dwindling because people these days would rather play Mobile Legends than lay their life for a cause. If you really wanted communism gone in the Philippines, it would be easy for the AFP to clear out the mountains. And if you really hate communism, why be China's lap dog?

Ladies and gentlemen of the Philippines. Brace yourselves for the coming months. The economy will get worse, the crackdown on dissenters would intensify, our basic civil rights to be trampled some more, labelling someone as a terrorist would be done out of whim. Do not hold your voices and sensible thoughts for those are our only weapons. Ang tunay na terorista ay nasa Malacañang, singilin natin sila at pagbayarin.
