New York mornings tend to be cold in the fall season. The people of the city feel it, the animals feel it, even the statues on the surrounding buildings feel it. Even so, the streets are busy in the morning, traffic is heavy, and shops are scented with freshly baked pastries and coffee.
And exactly one of these shops, a small, pleasant little café where one would say he could even feel the warmth of the family fireplace, was entered by a handsome, middle-aged man. Not too tall, with a muscular build that was hugged by dark jeans, with broad shoulders that were shrouded in a layer of clothing, a gray sweater, and a black leather one. As soon as he walked in, he caught the eye of the few people currently inside. Frankly, attention was the last thing he needed, he was trying to be more on the sidelines. Only, he looked too good to be ignored by the woman and some of the men. He walked steadily, quickly, to the counter and ordered coffee and breakfast. All he was trying to think about what was in store for him today, nothing big, he told himself. Just another day, just like any other. He didn't have the duty hanging around his neck until tomorrow, so today he could have a slow, leisurely day .
After holding a cup of coffee in one hand and a saucer of cheese croissant in the other, he looked for a place to sit. It was a really small space, that's why there weren't a lot of free tables, he had a choice of one near the counter that didn't suit him very well, because it was too central, or he could sit down with someone. And then he saw her. A young woman, sitting with her back to a large street window, in a comfortable dark chair, at a tiny table suitable for two. Across from her, an identical chair was built that only fostered a feeling, a pleasant first meeting, ideally, could go on as a date. He hesitated for a moment, unsure if he could afford this, right now. Starting with someone, in the situation he's in, but the woman seemed like it was because of her that it was worth risking everything. That's why he started walking toward her.
"I'm sorry, but. Mind if I join you?" he said in a calm, low voice. "Sure, grab a seat. I'll be out in a minute anyway." she replied without looking up and reading further in the book. "Actually, I thought I'd buy you a cup of coffee. If you can manage, though, one more" he stared at her curiously, her reaction not long in coming. "You'd be surprised how much I can handle."she laughed and finally lifted her eyes from the book to find out who she was dealing with.
He had to remind himself to breathe. He hadn't seen such beautiful, big eyes in a long time. Every contour of her face matched perfectly, a long lock of her black hair, framing the right side of her face, and as she pursed her lips gently and squinted, he knew he had to have her. Like right away, he didn't care, feel free to let everyone watch him make her his. The only one for him. "Well, damn, hello stranger" raised her eyebrows seductively and gave him a sweet smile. 'Hello to you, too, beautiful." he returned her smile and sat down at last. She immediately put the book aside, straightened, and stared into his eyes. The feeling that she might drown in them completely got to her. He was just the kind of guy she liked the most.
"So" there was a slight assurance in his voice, he already knew he had her caught. What he didn't know was who he had made contact with. She seemed nice on the outside, quiet, trying not to think of herself, but he doubted she had succeeded because she was really beautiful. At least for him. He'd be a fool to let her go. She, on the other hand, watched his every move, every expression of emotion on his face, his body language. She tried to read it, but it was hard. He wasn't one of those guys who comes up to her and demands her phone number immediately, he was different, she sort of sensed it. Of course you could allow any woman on the street to be approached, and she'd agree right away with anything he offered. But, in his eyes, there was an unspecified hint of something holding him back. Even the way he sat now, straight but with his arms crossed over his chest, was a sign that he didn't let anyone near him right away. And his smile, pleasant, warm, honest. So he was friendly, too, or rather, he wasn't mean. Just, careful.
"I think I'll have another cup of coffee." she replied in the end, yeah this guy deserves her attention, company and perhaps that number. He smiled even more, revealing the smaller lines around his eyes, this did not leave her calm. Sudden excitement coursed through her entire body.
She knew exactly how this morning would end, now only to get him where she needed to. "And how do you like your coffee?" a question that played perfectly into her hands, maybe he wouldn't be so difficult. "I like my coffee, just the way I like my men" she leaned forward, resting her chin on her palm. "Hot, Strong and Latino"
He nodded appreciatively, genuinely impressed by the sincerity he had encountered in her. Also pleased, he understood from one sentence that she was single, so he didn't have to tussle over her with anyone, and he also found that the attraction was mutual. "I suppose Guatemala's your favorite." he scoffed, amused by this two-pronged conversation. "I haven't tried that before, but it's always the first time." she bit her lower lip, and he silently vowed that another bite on her lip would be his.
