Outlander S03E02, “Surrender”
Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser in Outlander 7x14 "Ye Dinna Get Used To It"
Seriously what is it with modern writing and directing that everything is just a succession of emotionally empty scenes? Jaimie died. I should be bawling. I'm not. It's just scenes after scenes after scenes with no real emotional weight. Everything goes by too fast, without being let be, left to sink in and spread emotionally.
There are shots where I'm like "you would have given it two more seconds, going a bit wider and this would have really hit" (like when they're marching to battle). Others idk what could have made them better because they're filmed well.
This is beautiful, the episode is beautiful. But so... empty. Everything is so empty and flat, dull, blunt... I feel nothing.
Those characters we followed for a decade now, all the build up, and... nothing.
I only started to tear up as the song was coming as Claire was dying next to him. But even then... Like... It lasted barely a second. Bc the show switched fast too.
That's it? That's fucking it?
I'm not even against the ideas, but they're executed so badly.
Okay that Craigh Na dun scene is... not so bad. Although the song is doing most of the work let's be honest.
What is it that shows can't create emotions? Fall flat like that? Like they did manage to build some tension during the season. But it didn't pay off.
Characters don't feel alive anymore, things fall flat, are emotionally superficial idk.
And yeah I'm on my bloody phone during the last episode of one of my favorite show that have been accompanying me for years. To say how bad it is...
They're so FREAKING cute here I can't stand it 🥹 #Outlander
The exchange between them was cute and funny , in this moment... Clair told Jamie she would scream for Rachel, if he basically tried any funny business.

I feel the need to tell you all that I just finished the Outlander season/series 5 finale and CAN WE TALK ABOUT MARSALI HERE?? MY HEART IS SO FULL. Obviously there's a lot of problematic stuff going on in this series, but this brief moment felt so heartwarming that I needed to share it somewhere.
Sometimes I love reading Outlander book 1. Sometimes it rips me apart because I know what they’re still going to go through. It makes me appreciate the later books of nappies and white sows.
I, Roger Jeremiah, take thee, Brianna Ellen, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward in plenty and in want, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health as long as we both shall live.
I, Brianna Ellen, take thee, Roger Jeremiah, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward for better for worse, for richer for poorer. In sickness and in health as long as we both shall live.
