Thirdly, I’ve been pondering...
When a vaccine is available to me and my co-workers and I take it. And my friends/family are vaccinated. And I’m able to travel without getting myself or my loved ones sick... Am I morally obligated to not do so in order to protect the people in my life who refuse to get vaccinated?
Because I’m thinking I’m not. I’m not saying I wouldn’t be careful. I’m not saying I wouldn’t wear a mask and all. I’m not saying I’m immediately going to run out and go everywhere. I just don’t think I’m morally obligated to go on the way I am (the only places I’ve been outside of work and home in the last month is the one trip to my psychiatrist’s office and having an outside visit with my best friend). And that’s largely so that I don’t pick up the virus somewhere and bring it back to my co-workers and, by extension, their families.
But if the vaccine is available to all of us at the same time (and it should be since we’re all in the same age and health range) and they refuse it while I take it... Then them getting sick is on them and their lack of action.
