Question 2 (Improved)
Question 1
Overall Evaluation
Overall evaluation
I think that this project was successful and I felt that we all worked together really well and I felt that we produced a lot of good work inside both pieces. I felt that there was a lot of good and strong moments inside both pieces and I felt that the audience really enjoyed our two pieces and were very intrigued with our pieces and also found certain moments inside the piece, such as The Shoes That Was Danced To Pieces very humorous and had a lot funny moments which the audience enjoy and kept them fully engaged in both pieces about the two stories.
I think that it was it was most successful throughout this process and I felt that this is one of the processes which I think that we all got on well with each other as a group helping and working with each other to come up with ideas which we could try out to see if it works inside one of the two pieces. I felt that having the HNDs working with me I didn't feel like they were trying to be better than everyone and always taking demand of what we should, or should not do but leading the two performances and pushing ourselves and each other to bring our performances and characters to life and to make the audience enjoy and understand the storyline of bother pieces and keeping them engaged through the piece. And also putting on a show that the audience will never forget.
I also feel that we put on a good shows and in the end we after our performance we inspired others our age group that now want to come and work and learn at the Miskin Theatre. This was not just about putting a show but inspiring others that want to do acting and making them want to come to the Miskin to learn different acting skills and for them to de ell as actors. And also getting to learn about how it works in the industry and about being decent human beings.
Throughout this process I think that some performances where it was unsuccessful was when not everyone was fully committing to their characters and loosing energy which at times made the audience disengage from watching our performance. I felt that during the princes scene when we all introduce ourselves I felt that certain actors was speaking as themselves and not as their character and staying in the mindset and physicality of their character. I also felt that as The Shoes That Was Danced To Pieces went on after the Ibiza scene and princes got into their tableaux there was a lot of wittering and a lot of actors being unfocused which made some of the audience looking at us and not listening to what the soldier was saying and not listening to the story.
I think that during The Robber Bridegroom performance I felt that there was a lot of commitment and energy, however certain actors forget their props, such as Anna when she shows the finger and the ring when she saids " and her is the finger with the ring." There was also a lot of actors that were too busy having there own discussion and not getting into their starting positions before the travellers bring the audience to our location. I also thought that one of the scenes that was unsuccessful during certain performance was the cues during the wedding scene which certain actors either forgot or missed out their cues which left dead space in the scene which made it difficult for us all to pick up our cues and bring the energy up.
I think that during The Robber Bridegroom is with the cannibals as the audience are walking through the forest I think that the cannibals could have a glass which we could put cherry juice so that when we drink we could make it look like blood so as the audience are seeing all the cannibals appearing out of the trees it makes it look more dark and mysterious and it builds up tension and it creates a atmosphere and makes the audience wonder what is going to happen next. I also think that when the cannibals lift the victim and put her on the table and as the victim saids her lines " they forced her drink her drink red wine, and one white, and another yellow" we should have cups that should contain those three different wines and put three different drinks into the cups that look like red, white, and yellow wine, I think that if we did this it would have made it look more believable and made it look more realistic.
I think the improvement we could have made was towards the end of The a robber Bridegroom when we all say the epilogue which I felt that others were still struggling with and I didn't think that we all were in time with one another. However as I think back to when we first did the epilogue inside this piece I feel that we have developed a lot more but I still felt that we needed to work on the timing.
I really enjoyed throughout this process and I felt that it has helped me as a actor being able to develop on my different characters inside the two pieces and I felt that each time I perform I start to discover other ways and different things that I do and develop as my character. I felt inside The Shoes That Was Danced To Pieces that was trying different postures and changing my physicality as the prince each time as I performed this piece with my group. I feel that it has helped understand my character and being able to bring my character to life. I have also been doing a lot of research on princes I have watched certain fairy tales so I can analyse and study the prince posture personality, and bravery.
I think that what we have all gained as a group is telling the story to the audience through our characters and I felt that towards our last performances I felt that we all developed on our weaknesses and when we performed both pieces that there was a lot of energy and commitment. And that everyone picked up their cues. I think that we have been not just friends but like a family throughout this process and I feel that towards the we kept the audience engaged and intrigued in both pieces and inspired others in the audience.
The audiences response on the first performance was that they really enjoyed it and found it really humorous throughout the piece. My grandma thoughts on this first piece she found very humorous when she came to watch it, however she said at times she struggled to hear certain actors and she felt that they could have projected out more to the audience. And because she did not hear certain actors when they were speaking and telling the story it made her not fully understand the storyline of the piece properly.
On the second piece the audience at the start of the piece as they were walking through the forest as the cannibals started to appear the tension started to build and the audience members were intrigued and wondering what was going to happen next. I felt that throughout The Robber Bridegroom this was the most powerful scene which hailed the most tension and creating an atmosphere. After our performance I spoke to my grandma who enjoyed the second piece the most because she thought it had more of a story to it. And she really liked it as the cannibals were appearing out from the trees which she found it very dark and mysterious and it shocked her the way that the cannibals played their characters and how they acted so nice but also had a dark side of them which she was very intrigued by.
As an actor I have really enjoyed working with this group throughout this process and I feel that we all got along with one another and we never argued or been disrespectful towards one another opinions and that we all just got on with the worked with another as professional actors. Throughout this process I have enjoyed getting to work with other actors that I haven't got a chance to work with before and I have truly enjoyed getting to work and speak with them not just as actors but as human beings, and I feel that we have all bonded so much throughout working on this process together.
I have enjoyed getting to play different variety of characters which I have enjoyed doing and am glad to be a part of this process. Also I have enjoyed getting to work outside the different locations other than in the Miskin and getting to explore and try different things with what is around us. I feel that I have developed so much at the Miskin and I felt that I have developed and learn new skills throughout this process which I am going to take with me for when I going to work on the next piece with my company, and when I go onto apply for acting school where I will continue to work and develop as an actor. I would also like to go onto saying thanks to Gavin and Laura and I appreciate helping me develop as an actor and building my confidence which was one of my main weaknesses that I used to struggle with the most.
Overall Evaluation
Match Box Theatre
I think this process has been the most insightful process I have done so far in Miskin. There has been a lot of ups and downs, challenges, and issues that has happened within our company during this process but I still think that we have come together the most and have bonded even better as a company. We looked at man different aspects of ourselves during this process, which is what I think was the aim of the entire thing. We were able to look at ourselves and know our strengths and weaknesses, and know how we were to be viewed in the acting industry, the monologues that were given to us. They were piece that we would generally get cast as in the acting world, so we now have a feel of how come across and the types of imagines we portray with our physical features as well as our own individual personalities.
I feel like I have learnt more about myself during this process than the other, it has felt more of a person journey than what he had ever done because we were dealing with real fake characters, and what I mean by that is that the character themselves were fictional but their characteristics and situations were very real. We during this touched on real life issues for example, domestic violence, dealing with lost loved ones, and other things that could be happening in real life.
I think the show really gave the audience members a glimpse into the heads and life of many real everyday people, as well as a insight to the lives of people in society and really enforces the fact that we are all very different and go through different things, and I am happy we looked at modern day scripts and writers.
Match box theatre has been a joy to work on and has just reinforced my love for the performing arts, I have had the most fun on this project and have learnt so much, and will be taking all that I have experienced on with me to further my acting career.
Overall Evaluation
As an Overall Evaluation its not a positive reflect onto my Everything is a Remix Log Book Work. This is because I feel I've lacked within the effort of work and research produced compared to my D&AD Log Book. With all the work put into my Reflective Journal and D&AD Brief its led me to fall behind within the work for this Brief. Including having to cut out some research and one Everything is a Remix Shoot due to limited time.
For improvements I need to concentrate on my organisation skills by being more prepared for deadlines. However after having a confirmed extension deadline due to an explained incident said in my Reflective Journal. This has made a huge impact on my work of being behind which is unfortunate. But I've had to get on with it and carry on. I feel I have tried my best and put in as much work as I can despite since the incident. I am proud with some of the photography work produced. Its just a shame that I didn't include much more experimentations, research and photography shoots. I will know for the third term with how to organise my time. Setting myself a target to begin work at least 2 hours a day, this way I won't be disappointed again and it shall teach me a lesson.
Evaluation, Visual Communication in context
I really enjoyed both briefs we were given in this unit. They have pushed me really hard and as a result really developed my work further. I have also found the workshops really helpful, my favourite being the book binding workshop, it was a really interesting skill to learn which I know I will use a lot in the future. I felt that the workshops were helpful with the current work we were given although would have really appreciated a workshop which taught us how to digitally produce nets.
Branding an object
Initially I felt quite intimidated by the task as we got given the object sand brand. Initial research taught the group that it is easy to obtain and cheep to buy. Is used in construction and for sand pits because our research didn't turn up any special quality etc about sand we had to dig much deeper into the subject and think very creatively about the object. This needed up being a massive plus for us because we came up with some really solid and interesting concepts. I'm really glad that we got given a tough object because it pushed the materials I use for research further and generally improved my idea development process.
Once we had the concept and name, which we decided as a group we came to designing the logo. Although our group worked really well as a team, we listened to each other, were able to make decisions as a group and have fruitful conversations we worked on our initial logo designs quite separately. In hind sight this was a mistake, we should have sat asked more about each others designs helped improve them but also discussed means of creating the logo itself as we all went in different directions. After our tutorial where we discussed our logo designs we became much better at working on our logo designs as group and I feel like they became stronger because of it.
I think we had a strong concept, brand values and an accurate target audience. I agree with the feed back we received that the logo had lost the edgy tone we wanted for the brand and become to twee and unrefined. Although our final logo could be pushed further I think our development from our initial designs was huge and we made sure we were open to other means of creating imagery.
Packaging products
I chose Germany because I found my initial research the most interesting and thought I would develop the best idea out of information I was most engaged in. I am happy with the concept I came up with, the idea process is usually my favourite part of a brief and I feel as if my idea was well backed up with relevant research.
I went through a lot of stages of logo development. I think the final logo I created is relevant to the product I made and also fits in in context of German design. Whilst creating this logo I learnt how to trust my judgement more, throughout the process I would settle on a design I thought was finished but have a sensation that it wasn't right as I kept designing I wondered if I was just overthinking the process and should stop however I imediately knew I arrived at the solution I was happy with. Although it may not be perfect I am happy with the point I reached.
When it came to designing the packaging I really struggled creating nets, I couldn't visualise how my box would look in a flat form and it took a lot of test prints to create a net which completely fit together, I missed of flaps and even whole sides of boxes in my initial designs. This process was lengthened when I realised I had to create my nets to scale something i had no idea how to do but found out the technique in illustrator and I'm glad I gained this new skill it has made me think in a more accurate manner.
The biggest problem I had whilst completing this brief was managing time with so much to do. I struggled not to move on to the next job I needed to do to quickly leaving pieces of other work unfinished or not at a standard I would like. I think I coped with this quite well and made sure I sat and pushed my work as far as I could in the time I had before moving on which I haven't done in previous projects and have been unsatisfied with the outcome.
Designing my packaging was really tough to begin with I kept producing samey designs which didn't communicate the image I wanted to for my product/brand. However my designs improved greatly after a piece of advice i received at my tutorial telling me that I should stop looking at the net as all separate sections and just take the rectangle that made up the main body of the net and design onto it as one large object. This really helped my design process, my imagery became more fluid, dynamic and interesting to look at.
A very important important lesson I learnt in this brief was to check spelling on all of my designs before sending them to print as I made a major spelling error on my business card box spelling 'buisness' wrong. Once I realised this it was to late and as I got the design printed externally I couldn't afford to reprint on the same paper as it only went through as A1 and my net for the lid of my business cards comfortably fit on an A4 sheet. I reprinted on a different sheet of good quality paper, made it up and handed it in as well as the original however as it was different a paper and from a different printer the colour looked much different. In future I will 100% be checking all of my spelling and just generally double checking my designs before they go for print.
Overall I am happy with what i produced for this brief, I tried as hard as I could to push my work and work outside of my comfort zone and am happy with the results and imagery I produced. Although I feel as if I could have added more detail to the large box I produced, perhaps more typographic detail. And made the logo more prominant to the customer.
