The Black & White of it All
Today I feel inadequate in all my roles. My anxiety has built up in my chest and it feels like someone or something is pounding inside wanting to rip me open. I want to run and hide from everyone.
Tell me why I just invited my 56 yr old co-worker to lunch tomorrow?
Her response back was so heartwarming…and it reminded me.
I crave human connection now more than I ever have. But I don’t want it because I want something from others, but because empathy is a core part of who I am and I love to just sit there and be with others.
My anxiety and PTSD have robbed me of me for most of my life. The constant inner voice in my head telling me that my empathy and want to be around others are both weaknesses and I’m stupid to think I have anything to offer.
But then I see my kids’ faces light up when I open the door to my office and sit down with them. I’ve never experienced such innocent joy and love in my life. And all they want is to just sit with me.
And that’s what I want to be for others. I just want to sit, listen, learn, and be with others.
In efforts to not silence myself because of fear, I invited my coworker out. She had a hard day at work and I guess I thought maybe looking forward to a nice meal and conversation with someone she feels comfortable with, may help her get through the rest of the week.
Based on her response, my guess was correct.
So, even though my chest feels the way it does and like I’m about to burst into tears because every time I put myself out there, I lose my mind a bit…I’m going to enjoy lunch tomorrow because that’s who I am.
My limitations don’t hold me back. They make me, me. And what is a more beautiful art than authenticity.
So who am I?
I hate feeling small. It makes me feel so overly self righteous for caring. Likewise, I hate realizing I don’t matter, yet still wanting better. I hate knowing, after all, my life is too short to ever really change anything. And here I am trying.
In a word, stubborn. I’ve been called foolish. An idealist. But I accept the limitations of my idea perfection. I accept the brief life I will have with vigor.
Just wanna mention something. Get it off my chest.
I used to be a total introvert. I had no intent of really meeting people and hanging out with them. I was content being completely on my own.
But as I grew older, I realized I just haven't exactly met the right people and I wasn't ready to engage in social interactions beyond the basics.
Now, even though I still battle social anxiety and anxiety in general I actually want to meet new people. I want to engage with others and hang out with them. And I just cannot stand being on my own anymore.
At the same time, the fear of screwing up with the people I meet and met has grown significantly. And I often cannot stand hearing myself talk in a social setting because somehow I feel like I am not doing it right. I either fail to get my words out or interrupt someone.
I can have a great time with a group of friends but at the end of the day I go home and question everything. Did I say the tight things, have I acted appropriately, was there something I missed or am I somehow coming off weird?
I never know if I am coming on too strong or acting too cold. I am terrified of rejection.
Despite all of that, I keep going. I keep pushing my boundaries and fuck is it worth it.
I have found so many wonderful people I can genuinely call my friends and even partners.
And I am really thankful for everyone that I've met❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🩷

Some beaitiful words for a Monday morning (especially if you are needing some courage right now 💕) "There is nothing beautiful about the wreckage of a human being. There is nothing pretty about damage about pain about heartache. What IS beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude. As they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the wreckage of their life, to build something beautiful brand new against every odd that is stacked against them....THAT is beautiful ~ @nikita_gill . . . . . . . . . . #bodylove #selfrespect #selfacceptance #overcomingfears #overcominganxiety #youarestrongerthanyouthink #buildingcourage https://www.instagram.com/p/BukqmXaAatp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18ax6iu73edra
You are Who you are.. Have you ever been old that you are not good enough? Or as an artist, that your work is not great?
