Sorry for the long post. Cuts don’t work on mobile. Because Tumblr.
Catching up on the replies. Let me know if I missed one along the way. ^_^
meheartonepiece answered: I believe Jimbei was first mentioned waaaay back in the Arlong arc, as the one who let Arlong loose in East Blue. I think he’ll come up soon enough too :^)
And Gedatsu is one of the priests from Skypiea, the one with the chandelier hair that kept forgetting to breathe XDDD
Speaking of characters, my brother and I once had a contest to see how many one piece characters we could name, saying one name each turn. It went on for quite a while, and we had started using names from lesser villains who only appeared in like 3 episodes XDDDD
Now I do remember Jinbei being mentioned waaayyy back in the Arlong Park arc. I was excited at the time because I thought, “Here’s a future badass”. It’s taken this long to meet him. xD
The guy who kept forgetting to breathe on Skypiea. Ahahaha, I remember him now.
Not sure how well I would do in a One Piece character naming competition. I keep forgetting what’s happened in previous arcs. If I entered one, it might not be my finest hour. xD
paddster answered: glad to hear you got an offer to the place you want to go :D I actually love Teach because he´s the most human villain I can think of. He doesn´t do evil things out of joy or hate/vengeance. He´s just following his dream. He´s evil luffy, just more cunning^^ plus he´s the most realistic pirate in OP I´d say. Even as a Manga-only person I wouldn´t worry to much. All the comparisons are done by people who´ve experience both which makes the contrast much more apparent and I imagine it to be interesting to reread it again later on and still bein surprised due to the changes =)
Thank you! ^_^
And I agree with all the points you made about Teach. He’s a real pirate’s pirate. I like that Luffy’s rival is not diametrically opposed to him. Teach has the same ambition but has gone down a very different route to achieve it.
slaxtheraven answered: I know you’ve been spoiled of something but it’s probably something different than what I meant. You just tend to make certain comments in your posts that are pretty accurate, as if you watched the series before or you’re omniscient :P
Get ready for the Yonko. Hype train choo choo
And oh, you can’t watch opening 11 yet, it shows some scenes from Impel Down. But you can listen to it ^^ the song’s awesome. And you can watch opening 10.
It’s weird, but I used to be able to predict certain kinds of things in Naruto, back when I watched it. It was mainly the vague, overarching direction of the plot because I was familiar with tropes, and, sometimes, what certain minor characters would do in response to the plot. Didn’t always work out (though I was right about Orochimaru outliving everyone in the end, hahaha!)
Might be the case that the thing I have potentially been spoiled for is affecting the theories I make (I’m factoring it in, just in case).
I won’t be watching any new openings for a while because I can get into CR again. They’re still on the Thriller Bark OP. =P
blogquantumreality answered: I believe you saw Jimbei in the “inventory of the Royal Shichibukai” snippets somewhere a few eps back - the ep title was “Hancock Madly In Love!”Also, I don’t know if you noticed my comment regarding which tag you can safely read, but this link will take you to it. I wrote it not long after I’d seen those short vignette videos, and I haven’t updated it since then so it is not spoilery.
That’s weird, I could have sworn I responded to the tag from your blog I could safely read. I remember reading it, finding it interesting, then replying, but I cannot find my reply! D:
Aha! Found it: http://neverwatchedonepiece.tumblr.com/post/139015538069/meheartonepiece-answered-oh-man-you-have-no
Jinbei looks like a lion, with all that curly eyebrow hair. He is a fishman, right? What kind of fish is he supposed to be?
laughingstorm answered: Oh yeah, Magellan… he’s definitely a character you’ll enjoy. Have fun meeting him.
Magellan was unexpectedly funny. Thought he would be a Spandam-style sicko who got off on power and torture. Nope. He’s a medieval woodcut lookalike in a gestapo uniform who practically lives in the bathroom. xD
greatninjadragon answered: Here’s how Luffy can never not start a ruckus. One of the first people he runs into 5 minutes after entering is Buggy.
This is quotable. I’m tagging that one. xD
edwinflores428 answered: Yep Buggy’s back! His place in this arc is hilarious~! And be prepared for the variety of characters here you’ll go nuts on who you see!
Baroque Works are a shoe-in (the cover story and seeing Mr 3 has confirmed it) but if there are a couple more surprises, that would be awesome. ^_^
bigpaw answered: omg sooo glad you finally got to this!! buggy is the best ever and i love him so much, i laugh every time i think about him
Another Buggy fan! Awesome. Good to know many other Buggy appreciators exist in the OP fandom. ^_^
eloarei answered: Hey, so what’s your opinion of Buggy’s appearance? Particularly his hair in a ponytail vs. the way he usually wears it?
I think Buggy’s hair looks amazing. *_* Much better than the short style he wore when he first smashed his way into the plot.
meheartonepiece answered: HELL YEAH, IMPEL DOWN HYPE!!! Ace has some serious Dad issues, it’s really a good thing that he eventually met Whitebeard. Also, Teach has actually been in WB’s crew for at least 10 years, which make his actions even more despicable. I love how apparently even snails find Hancock attractive, since she turned them to stone too XDDD Then again, maybe her powers just extend naturally to animals? Who knows XD
Ace’s dad issues definitely seem pretty serious. It’s weird. Would not have thought he would have gone through something like that. He seems so well-adjusted. Then again, he does have Whitebeard.
Hahaha, I never thought about Hancock being able to turn the snails into stone! I guess the DDM snails are around humans so much, they absorb human beauty standards? xD
creative-type answered: I hope you enjoy these episodes. This is where I stopped watching the anime b/c they ruined the comedic timing on some frankly awesome jokes with bad pacing. And Gedatsu is the priest Chopper defeated, and you should check out his coverstory
Yeah, he was the guy who kept forgetting to breathe and Chopper was like, “O_O How can this moron function?” I’ll check out his cover story. Hopefully, he’ll have learned how to breathe. xD
king-redstar answered: Family in One Piece is not always simple. There are the obvious ties like the Monkey family, and less obvious ones like the Strawhats. Where one would see fathers, others may find rebels, lawmen, outlaws or possiby even royalty. I suppose in some way, family is just who you love, huh?
I’ve always viewed the Strawhats as a strong family unit, but, for some reason, never applied that to other OP groups. All crews are family, right? Even Baroque Works were a big, dysfunctional mafia-like family.
tempus-nexus answered: Whitebeard’s pretty darn fantastic, isn’t he? He’s one hell of a guy. Anyways, there’s a revelation and a half-truth to be learned in this arc. One from the show, one from your posts themselves. Have fun with that, and good luck until you find out!
He’s a good guy, definitely. I got weird vibes from him the first time I saw him but now I know it’s just because he is so strong he just intimidates everyone else without having to lift a finger. Hell, WB could raise an eyebrow and people would faint.
x-chick303 answered: Buggy? Die? Feh, that guy is practically immortal. Idiots in this show don’t die easy. At any rate, I smiled a lot during this review. Oh, the things you don’t know…
That’s true. Spandam’s still alive, isn’t he, haha?
You smiled a lot during the review? I’ll bet I got something hideously wrong. xD
slaxtheraven answered: Crocodile’s bounty is only 81 million! But he’s still a very dangerous criminal, and his bounty was frozen because he was a Shichibukai. Teach is scum, but he’s kinda like Luffy. He just does his things his own way, and that is fine.
Ah, yes. 81 million. I remember now. It was an oddly small bounty, considering Crocodile almost successfully pulled off a military coup without anyone knowing he was the mastermind behind it. (Still one of my favourite plot lines).
paddster answered: I think you hit the nail on the head concerning Garp. He´s torn between helping someone he loves and being true to his ideals. Ace and Luffy chose their own way and have to live with the consequences. You will see how it tears him apart more late on.
Awesome. Glad I got something right. Didn’t have huge amounts of evidence to base it on (other than Garp’s treatment of Luffy when he was a kid and saying he’d come after him with no mercy after Enies Lobby). Garp just seems the kind of guy who doesn’t accept excuses from anyone. Even himself. So why would he accept them from the grandsons? Still, I don’t want to see Garp sad. :(
doctorvix answered: I love how they Domino announced 3 badasses of ID : Croc, Ace and Jin, they throw them down in the boiling water? 0 fucks given=))
The energy of their badassery is so intense, the heat of the boiling water is like a pleasant, summer rain in comparison. I would have shrieked and died there and then. xD
lunerblade1996 answered: fun fact their is some rumors around the internet that impel down also references Egyptian tombs thus the traps and design of the vice warden and could be where alabasta hid the weapon pluton.
That would be amazing if Pluton was right under the WG’s nose all along! I like the theory that Impel Down references Egyptian tombs. Hannyabal’s design fits that too, as well as the traps. ^_^
blogquantumreality answered: HAHAHHAHAHA YEEEEEEESS Buggy in Impel Down! XD And OMFG Magellan and Hannyabal are like the perfect Odd Couple Duo. They crack me up too XD
Hannyabal is hilarious with his muttered, “I will surpass you” schtick. XD And Magellan. Poor, poor Magellan who cannot resist dat tasty poison and lives in the bathroom as a result.
martyslittleusedblog answered: Don’t be so sure you know who Ace’s dad is. After all, was it ever explicitly mentioned who Ace’s dad was, or just strongly implied?
*mouth hangs open*
You’re right... There is not a shred of clear evidence who Ace’s dad is. D:
Does that mean his dad is not Dragon, after all??
nounoursonne answered: First : I’m so proud of my fellow commentators, just saying, it’s hard guys but we can do it.
Next :Congratulations you can now watch the 11th opening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIPp1Zhg2gU Reminder this opening started at episode 395 : aka start of the Auction in Sabaody… so yeah it was spoilery u_u (be careful new opening episode 426 : SUPER SPOILERY OMG)Now I am happy you are happy Buggy is back, he clearly made the arc for me, he is just so funny. So many things you are to discover, so many people to meet ! Impel Down here we go !
Yes, thank you all commentators for resisting the urge to spoil. You all deserve OP medals. ^_^
Oh, I caught that opening when I had to turn to an alternative provider (CR wasn’t working). Considering it began during the Sabaody Auction, it is hella spoilery. Kuma being in the opening would have ruined the Pacifista surprise. D:
yetimati answered: Ive been OP fan all these years but only now that I know vivre mean “to live” :P. And Garp… at that time many ppl bash Garp for his seemingly lack of effort in rescuing Ace. Heck, the old man doesnt even look worry! But he has his reasons, as much as Ace and Luffy is the family he was given, the Navy (or a part of it) is the family he built himself. Pirate doesnt treat piracy as just an occupation, their crewmate as just collagues, the same to Navy. Helping Ace means he turn his back on everything he fights for and believes in his whole life. It is really hard for him. And some times ago I asked if you think the Revolutionary will join the fight or not bcs I know you’ll reach this ep. Let see if Dragon decide to continue being a deadbeat dad or not.
I totally understand why Garp is behaving the way he is right now, and I think you have described perfectly Garp’s reasons. It’d odd to think of the Marine as having something in common with pirates, but it’s true. I remember Garp taking Coby and Helmeppo under his wing, treating them like naughty sons who just needed a father figure to look up to.
My guess about Dragon showing up at the fight? He won’t turn up. He’s always been a deadbeat dad. Why break the habit of a lifetime? xD
alphaspi answered: first of all the formula for impel down and marineford is pretty much how the rest of the series will be, a giant cluster fuck of characters and plot points. secondly if i was Ace i would damn proud of my dad and carry his name with pride
If Oda is able to deal with the clusterfuck of characters and plot points as well as everyone says he can, I will be happy as a clam.
And what’s that you say? Ace should carry his dad’s name with pride? Now that’s interesting... so it’s someone important? I wonder who? Aw, fuck, it’s not Garp, is it? Or Sengoku? D:
livesmileandstaystrong answered: YAAASS BUGGY. I’m so excited for the Dream Team and your reaction to it. Just wanna remind you that this is a prison and there’s LOADS of people in there… Also, I do love the Dante’s Inferno inspiration. And it hurts like hell seing Ace like that
Dat Buggy. The Dream Team is already working at full speed ahead. And Mr 3 is also on the cards to join. (This is awesome).
Dante’s Inferno is a definite source of inspiration, isn’t it? lunerblade1996 also pointed out the similarities Impel Down has to ancient Egyptian tombs, with all the traps, etc.
And Ace... ;_;
?
