Introducing the Pangolan Tiger! Named for the eastern country of Pangol, these fierce predators evolved and thrived in ancient times thanks to their natural armor.

Completely unrelated to true tigers, the Pangolan Tiger is in fact a marsupial! Their rear-facing abdominal pouch is present in both genders, and can house up to four newborns for the eleven months it takes for them to be able to walk on their own. All members of the pride take part in carrying and caring for the young, the males often carrying them while the tigresses hunt, and the tigresses acting as wet nurse for one another.

With the disappearance of dragonkind from their homeland, their numbers skyrocketed, only to be pushed to the brink of extinction by the people of Pangol searching for armoring alternatives to dragonhide.

Though their armor is tough enough to protect them and the young in their pouches, once they lay down, their true strength lays in their claws. Made of one of the hardest materials in the animal kingdom, they evolved to break through the rocky dens of their prey, but in the modern age have found a new purpose: breaching stone walls and buildings in search of vengeance upon the people of Pangol.

The King of Breen received an infamous man-eating Pangolan Tigeress responsible for the deaths of one of his envoys to Pangol to punish as he saw fit by Pangol’s Queen. The King of Breen, instead, chose to pardon the tigress, releasing her into his personal griffon aviary. Unknown to anyone at the time, she was carrying three newborns within her pouch. Eventually, once leaving her pouch, her young were discovered by one of the King’s grandchildren (Fathom), who trained them to ride.

Above, we see Fathom’s favorite, the young bull, Lumpy, who accompanies her on her quest to find and rescue her sister from behind enemy lines.
