Special Adopts: Big 50 Edition!

In honor of finding homes for 58 inokabe and counting, I have a very special batch of inokabes up for adoption!

To be honest, while inokabe are genetically compatible with other yokai, these can barely be called inokabe at this point, since they are inspired by dogs from other nations' folklore!!

The adoption rules for all the inokabes shown below will be as follows:

You must submit 3 total drawings, one of the inokabe alone, one of the inokabe with its potential owner, and a third one of your choice. I ask for at least flat/rough colors for all three, and at least one fullbody drawing of the inokabe. Written submissions are allowed, but must be substantial (as in there's no word requirement per se, but I would like some amount of effort in it please)

Please provide the inokabe(??) with a name! A name that comes from the creatures country of origin will increase your odds! (countries/regions of origin will be provided below).

For the mated pair, you must collab with another artist for the three drawings. (If no entries are recieved for the mated pair, applications will open for solo submissions following the rules stated in #1)

Happy Fabulous Friday! These two are the last of the batch of characters I'd never drawn before for a bit. Gotta admit, these two were a lot of fun to draw. Especially Maomaolei!

Okay… so, fun thing about writing about not one but two lands that only made contact with the Western world extremely late in their lives !! No Gregorian Calendar !!

That means I’m having to figure out a way to incorporate the Zodiac Calendar, the Earthly Stems methods of naming Months, and also Phrenological methods and the ten-day xuns of naming into my novel while somehow keeping from making it too complicated. And that’s just China

Over in Sakoku-sealed Japan, I’ve already made up two Era names for the current Tenno and the last one (drawing from the Man’yoshu) as well as using the traditional jun and month systems

Fun fact about having ten-day-weeks !! Nothing lines up in the slightest !! Japan, China and the Western world are running on three different calendars !! The only reason everything hasn’t collapsed yet is because both China and Japan are extremely insular, and the West is (shockingly) inclined to leave them be, mostly because they’re dealing with their own issues

Also !! Did you know that the soldiers of the Eternal Line wear dog-shaped helms ? This is because following the collapse of the Qin Dynasty, the Eternal Line fled southward to escape the incipient Han, led by Ying Zhongren, a distant nephew of the First Emperor

Once they reached the south, the Southern tribes, including the Shen and Yao peoples gave them shelter and food, hiding them from the soldiers of the Han.

In return for this great deal, Ying Zhongren promised that “the Line shall never forget what you have done for us”, and so, ever since then, the Line have worn dog-shaped helms, in honor of the Southern tribes that helped them at their lowest, who claim descent from Panhu, the Dog-headed King

Seventh Century Eclipse Marked The End Of Temple Site

During excavations at Pañhú, in Hidalgo Tecozautla, Mexico archaeologists uncovered a burned stucco floor. What they had found was evidence that the main pyramid had been deliberately ‘de-consecrated‘ and destroyed approximately 1350 years ago.

This deliberate act coincides with an astronomical occurrence which may have been interpreted by the Otomi people as warning of a global cataclysmic event.

One of the early complex cultures of Mesoamerica, the Otomi are suspected to be the original inhabitants of the central Mexican Altiplano before the arrival of Nahua people around 1000 CE.

Archaeologist Fernando López Aguilar, director of the research project led by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) realised there may be a correlation between the evidence for burning of the temple on the upper pyramid platform and an eclipse of the sun at dawn on 3 August, 650 CE. Archaeologists find burnt stucco floor related to astronomical event 1,350 years ago

TECOZAUTLA, MEXICO.- During the excavations in Pañhu, an archaeological zone which will soon open its doors to the public in the municipality of Tecozautla, Hidalgo, archaeologists registered a burn stucco floor, evidence that its main pyramid was desacralized approximately 1,350 years ago. This coincides with an astronomical event which was thought, by its inhabitants, to be a cataclysm.

Archaeologist Fernando Lopez Aguilar, director of the site’s investigation project promoted by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH – Conaculta), informed that there was a solar eclipse at sunrise the 3rd of August in the year 650 AD.

“To these old societies, the eclipse must have represented a catastrophe which is why they made sacrifices in order to ‘keep the star alive’, since they believed the black sun or hell’s sun had imposed on their sun ‘a giver of life’. Read more.
