All Hail The King. Panthera leo, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. In this frame, it certainly appears that he is giving someone a fierce look. Actually this image was captured during a mating session, which for lions is quite an undertaking. I didn't learn about the details, until I actually witnessed it. Lions mate for days at a time, up to 3-4 times in an hour. And despite the intense repetition, it can oftentimes be unsuccessful. Ovulation is induced during this process, rather than relying on a regular estrous cycle. I became smitten with both these ginger colored males, as well as the dark-maned ones. A very different look about them, and both exquisitely beautiful.
