Sometimes I don't know why I want to work in a school once I finish all of my schooling (I still have to do my masters since I want to be an interventionist) because sometimes I just come home from my internship so angry, and not at the kids, but at the adults. Specifically the ones that have no patients for the behavioral kids, you are their para you are supposed to have the most patients with them, not the least, and patients is what they need. They don't need to hear every single thing they are doing wrong and nothing they are doing right. Tell them what they are doing right. Tell them when you are proud of them. Tell them when they did a good job even if it was not hitting a child they normally do when they walked by. Even if they did one good thing all day tell them what it was, even if it sounds stupid like they sat down for lunch (even though they ended up getting up and running around, they still sat down, they still did a good job).
It also pisses me off when I've been put in charge of a child and someone else starts correcting that child, I'm sorry, were you put in charge of them? No? I didn't think so. Back the fuck off. All you're doing is telling them what they're doing wrong and that is wrong considering five seconds ago he was standing very nicely still and I told him that and reminded him of how nicely he was standing when he started to stand not so nicely before you so rudely cut me off. And who do you think he listened to? You? No. He didn't, because you were acknowledging his inappropriate behavior while I acknowledge that he did do something right which he has very hard days and gets so happy when he's told he did a great job doing something. So back. Off.
Ohmygosh.gaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh. Sorry. Today was frustrating. Schools are frustrating. Adults are frustrating. Children are adorable and I got a few doodles from two of them today, I will post them later, they make me smile and feel better.
