i feel like talking about the grant siblings and where they possibly might be going as main characters so let's get into it.
genuinely i don't think we're gonna get probie harry. i think we were all rooting and assumed we would be getting probie harry before the season premiered just based on all the leaks and bts and whatnot but my guy is not having good time running around with the 118 at all. you would think that if they had any intention of actually being part of the 118 he would enjoy it at least a little even though he's going through a lot of shit. but he has literally been and gotten more and more miserable the longer he's been there. it would have been easy for them to write just one moment where harry forgets about his despair and distress whilst he's helping the 118 and that would push him into wanting to get into firefighting but we haven't. all we've gotten is harry freaking out abt his mom and being terrified at all the emergencies he's been seeing from the manic self-driving car to the woman getting amputated.
and i know they wouldn't factor this in but can you imagine if he did become a probie and he got placed with the 118 and now chimney is captaining one of bobby's kids? chimney can barely handle being a captain to this team of people his family that he's known for years. you think he's gonna be able to handle having to captain a new probie who is also bobby's son?
honestly i see harry going into dispatch like may or maybe even police work like his mom.
if he goes to dispatch we would get a really nuance conversation with him and may. like maybe may is realizing how scared harry has been and she remembers feeling that way after athena's assult in season 3. she mentions this to harry not with the expectation that he'll do the same but to have him find some way of coping that isn't lashing out or bottling it up. that conversation leads to harry actually wanting to try doing the same thing. trying to keep his mom and safe and having some semblance of control during this terrifying and chaotic time. dispatch harry. and then we'd get to see harry and may interact and we've already gotten an established harry buck relationship and a soft may and maddie relationship. this could tie really well with givng a harry and maddie relationship and fully intergrating the buckley siblings and the grant siblings which would be so interesting to see.
on the other hand if we see harry maybe joining the police force (he'd have to get his GED since he dropped out but whtv) it would add a whole new layer to athena and harry's relationship which would be fascinating to explore. we know athena has so little thoughts of retiring, she can't even fathom it. but we saw her in the first episode this season struggling coming back to her job as a field sergeant and has instead been doing undercover work. i think it's safe to say that after the space emergency is done and over with she'll be back doing her police work and whatnot. but if you remember in 8x07 when she was placed with that trainee from the academy we can see that she's open to the idea of helping the new generation of the police force. harry joining the police force would give us a new character in the LAPD which would be incredible to see. now athena at first won't be too keen on the idea of harry going into the force but after some time i think she would accept it and acutally help harry through the process. it acts as a chance for athena to step back into acting as actively being harry's parent again after that fight in 9x01. it would actually force athena back into that role, the idea of her child being in danger jolting her into realizing that she is still his mother but also coming to terms that he is an adult who can make his own decisions. athena isn't taking a step back from the LAPD anytime soon but i wouldn't be surprised if she finally let her self slow down a little after losing her husband and seeing her kids express this genuine worry. i think under the expectation that athena acts as a mentor to harry it would be really good for their relationship. it would be so good for both of their characters and story arcs.
now let's get into may. i think it would be actually amazing if we got paramedic may. seeing her go through that training and possibly having eddie or hen (or both!) as her mentor would be fasicnating to see.
eddie and may already having an almost sibling relationship from their time at dispatch together would give them a chance to build on that relationship and give may a new person to interact with regularly outside of athena and harry.
if it were hen mentoring her though i think it would be just as compelling for may's character as well. hen having known may since she was a kid and the fact we haven't seen those two characters interact i think at all would be interesting to see. and having someone whose known may for a long time would give more insight into who may is as character outside of athena's daughter or harry's brother which is most of what we've seen since the season started.
whoever decides to mentor her if they do decide to go the paraMaydic route would give us a chance to finally get a look into may's grief. as corrine mentioned in the aftermath podcast, may is determined to be the pillar of strength for her family right now so that they can lean on her and make it easier for them. i'm really desperate to see may's grief for bobby and maybe her struggles with trying to be the strong one in her family. bobby was her dad in every way but blood and she's obviously going to be struggling with the fact that he isn't there anymore. that's why i think that giving her a support system outside of may and harry is really important because i think through that she'd finally be able to open up about how she is actually feeling about all this without having to put on a brave face for her family. eddie and hen would be perfect choices for that.
and if maybe they decide to bring may back to dispatch it would also open the friendship of maddie and may again. again like i said earlier it would be good to have may have another person she regularly confides in other than her mom and brother. i honestly hope they don't bring may back to dispatch though. i think that storyline ended nicely when it did and i don't think it would further her character in a meaningful way (but tim does some not so smart stuff so we'll see).
there's also the fact that may is still in college at this time but she does plan on finishing up by december. maybe whatever may is studying can tie into storylines and we'll have her doing a seperate thing that vaguley have to do with the LAFD, LAPD, or dispatch. maybe she's doing journalism and she'll look into odd cases that the 118 was a part of or she'll help her mom uncover cases from work. maybe she went into something sciency and then that connects her to karen and we'd get to see that duo which would be interesting. maybe after this emergency and her time at the firehouse and decides that maybe she wants to get into the medical field and she can shadow hen or eddie to get some hands on experience. there is so much possibility for may's character and i'm bouncing in my seat imagining it.
whatever direction they decide for these two characters i genuinely hope it's good because may was already my favorite character and harry is slowly becoming another favorite of mine too.
