Hi Anon! Thank you for all the cupcakes! I’ll give this my best shot!
Hero snuck into the alleyway, careful to not let anyone see her.
“Well?” She called, “are you coming out or not?”
A figure emerged from the shadows, clad in a dark suit. Villain.
“I wouldn’t miss seeing my favorite Hero,” he said.
Villain closed the distance between them and brought an arm around Hero’s waist. He pulled her closer and brought his lips to hers. Hero leaned into the kiss passionately. The pair stood like that for several moments, until a noise made Hero pull away.
“What’s wrong?” Villain asked.
“I thought I heard something,” Hero replied.
“Maybe it’s your imagination,” Villain suggested, “now, where were we?”
Villain leaned in to give Hero another kiss, but Hero pushed him away gently.
“I’m serious, Villain, I could swear I heard something.”
“You’re absolutely right, Hero,” a voice said.
Hero whipped around to see Superhero at the alley’s entrance.
“Hehe, Hi Mom,” Hero laughed nervously.
“What do you think you’re doing, consorting with him?” Superhero asked.
“Mom, it’s not like that,” Hero started, “Villain is-”
“a villain.” Superhero finished, “a criminal, a deviant, and certainly not fit for my daughter to be hanging around with.”
“Ma’am,” Villain spoke up, “if I may-”
“No, you may not,” Superhero interjected, “If I ever see you doing anything with Hero again other than fighting her, I’ll have no choice but to arrest you. Hero, come with me. We have a lot to talk about.”
Hero watched from a chair as Superhero paced back and forth in their base.
“I can’t believe you, Hero,” she said coldly, “I thought I raised you better than to date delinquents.”
“Villain isn’t a delinquent Mom,” Hero argued, “he’s just misunderstood.”
“Do you even hear yourself, Hero? You sound like every little fangirl that supports Villain’s actions! Did you forget how many crimes he’s committed? Do you-”
“I love him, Mom!” Hero yelled, tears brimming in her eyes.
Superhero stared in shock.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Superhero sighed.
Hero didn’t wait to hear what else her mother had to say. She bolted out of the room and up to her bedroom, where she promptly threw herself on the bed and buried her face in the pillow. Hero couldn’t hold her tears in any longer. A sob escaped her throat as she laid on the bed. Hero ended up crying herself to sleep.
When Hero woke up, she went back downstairs to confront her mother. Maybe now that she had calmed down, she could make Superhero see reason. When she got to the room they were in earlier, there was no sign of her mother. Only the signs of a serious struggle. There were bits of equipment strewn across the room, and an empty syringe on the floor. Hero’s eyes widened at the sight as she assumed the worst. Quickly, Hero ran over to the security monitors and entered the code that would play back security footage. On the screen, she saw her mother, fighting Supervillain and Other Villain. Hero watched as Other Villain came up behind Superhero and plunged the syringe into her neck. Superhero was strong, but she was no match for whatever drugs she had been given. Hero watched as Superhero went down and was carried out of the base by Supervillain.
Hero slammed her fist on the table. She turned and headed out the base to rescue her mother.
Hero arrived at an abandoned warehouse; based on Superhero’s tracking chip, this should be her location. Hero slipped inside and listened.
“Just tell us what we want to know, and nobody gets hurt,” Supervillain said.
“We both know that’s a lie.” She said.
“You’re so right,” Supervillain said.
Hero heard a cracking noise and a scream from her mother. Hero looked over from her hiding place and saw blood trickling down Superhero’s leg. Without thinking, Hero charged.
“Get away from her!” Hero yelled.
“Hero?” Superhero’s eyes grew wide, “what are you doing here? Run!”
Hero charged her powers and let a beam of energy fly at Supervillain. It hit him, but it didn’t seem to hurt him at all.
“Aw, like mother like daughter.” Supervillain drawled, “Other Villain, take care of her.”
Other Villain unsheathed a knife and charged. Hero charged another blast of energy and aimed for Other Villain. Other Villain easily dodged this and closed the distance between them. He brought his knife down; Hero tried to block it, but she wasn’t fast enough. The blade of the knife pierced her side. Other Villain pushed and twisted, causing Hero to scream. The world started to spin, and Hero’s vision blurred. Other Villain ripped the knife out, causing Hero to fall to her knees, clutching her side.
Hero looked up to see a blurry figure crash in through the warehouse skylight. The figure landed on top of Other Villain and tackled him to the ground. A swift punch to his jaw left Other Villain unconscious. The figure ran over to Hero and helped her stay upright. Hero squinted and could just make out the facial features of Villain.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
“M-my mom,” Hero slurred, “get my mom.”
Villain nodded and ran toward Supervillain. Hero blinked once, twice, then her eyes remained shut as darkness gripped her.
Hero woke up slowly. She tried to sit up but felt a force pushing her back down.
“Stay down, Hero,” a voice said, “I’m almost done.”
Hero cracked an eye open to see Villain looking down at her.
“Yes. Hold still, Hero,” Villain said.
Hero watched as Villain tied bandages around her torso. When he was done, he cast the roll of bandages aside and looked over at Hero.
“How do you feel?” He asked softly.
“Like I just got stabbed,” Hero groaned.
“There’s a reason for that,” Villain laughed.
Hero took a moment to assess her surroundings. She was in her base’s med bay. Her eyes scanned the room and fell on her mother, who was on the other side of her bed.
“Yes, Hero, it’s me,” Superhero answered.
Superhero took Hero’s hand and rubbed her thumb over it gently.
“What happened back there?” Hero asked.
She tried to sit up again, but both Villain and Superhero pushed her back down.
“Your friend saved us, Hero,” Superhero said gently, “we wouldn’t have made it out of there if it wasn’t for him.”
“I told you he was just misunderstood.” Hero flashed a weak smile.
“I suppose you’ll be arresting me now.” Villain turned to Superhero.
“Arresting you?” Superhero asked incredulously, “whatever for?”
“You said you didn’t want me around Hero unless I was fighting her, and considering I just followed her to the warehouse and saved her life…” Villain trailed off.
“Ah, yes, well,” Superhero said, “maybe my previous statement needs to be amended. How would you like a job, Villain?”
“Yes, working alongside Hero. Seeing how your actions lately haven’t been very villainous, you might want to consider becoming a hero.”
“I-” Villain looked to Hero, who nodded. “I’d love to, Ma’am.”
“Perfect. I’ll make all the necessary arrangements. Just know this means you won’t be robbing banks anymore.”
“Or making, how shall I put this, public displays of affection while I’m around.”
Hero and Villain stared at each other and blushed.
“That last one might be a little harder to do, Ma’am.”
Superhero cocked an eyebrow.
“But I’ll certainly try!” he added quickly.
“Good,” Superhero said, “I’ll give you two some privacy. I’m going to go run surveillance. Supervillain and Other Villain may have gotten away this time, but they can’t evade us for long.”
As soon as Superhero had left the med bay, VillainOther Hero sat Hero up and pulled her close.
“I think she likes you,” Hero said.
“Not half as much as I like you,” Other Hero replied.
Hero brought her lips to Other Hero’s. Other Hero leaned into the kiss, being careful not to jostle Hero’s injury. The pair remained that way for several moments, until Other Hero pulled away and lowered Hero back down onto the bed to let her rest. Hero fell asleep with Other Hero right beside her. Superhero watched from the security monitor as Other Hero pulled the blankets up to Hero’s chin.
They really do make a cute couple, Superhero thought.
