High Guardian Redo part 2! The student body.
After doing some digging it bugged the crap out of me some of these characters aren't even named seasons-- none the less spices. And since I kept forgetting their names, I renamed them to keep them memorable.
Starting Snapdragon in a proper set of armor. But unlike most of his classmates, he never wanted to attend the school. He had always been a sensitive and artistic boy, but his father was a proud military man and encouraged him and his brothers to fight. As if things weren't hard enough, Snapdragon's mother was killed in a dragon raid. So he was lacking that female presence in his life. So when he got to High Guardian Academy he honestly did try to fight with a blade, but the combat professor Tarragon noticed him struggling and how much he thrived with a sketch book. That gave Tarragon an idea, he gave Snapdragon a set of enchanted chalk. This chalk could create doors when in a tight situation as a means of escape as well as make drawings come to life. It's a form of old magic that had been considered old fashioned, but Tarragon always kept a stash because of how useful it was. Snapdragon was in love with it. His creations would come to life and help him and his team. He finally felt useful. This got the attention of Sage who complimented him on his drawing skills in battle which made him had a crush on her. Much later Snapdragon experimented with transformation magic to see what life felt like as a girl. But he quickly found out how hard it was and his preexisting problems didn't seem to go away either. He was getting bullied and he felt stuck. This got Caraway's attention and had a talk with him. Being a glamour user himself he wanted to let Snapdragon know if he's intending to use the glamour he'd do it for himself not to win the approval of others. Snapdragon took that to heart and got a new outlook on his existence. He might not be as manly as his relatives or as feminine as his friends, but he found a balance in his own strength.
Amaryllis was a spoiled brat from a rich wizard family. She seldom saw her parents, they were always away on business. But as it turned out, Snapdragon came from a family who'd do guardian work for them. She quickly noticed Snapdragon and how he didn't seem to act like a guardian. Snapdragon would take offense at first before admitting he never wanted to be one. This baffled Amaryllis. Why would you not want to become a guardian? You got respect and glory. Still she felt drawn to Snapdragon for having such a different view on the guardians. She herself wanted to become an expert in new magic witchcraft. Maybe then her family would notice how great she was? At school she got into a heated rivalry with Sage. Her views on new magic seemed to irk her, so she'd go out of her way to outshine her. But to her shock, she noticed Snapdragon admiring Sage and it made her scared and jealous. She didn't have many friends and she couldn't fathom losing him to her rival. But then she noticed something curious about Sage one day. Suddenly she looked as lost and envious as she was... But over Rosemary. After some prodding Sage spilled the beans to her she couldn't tell Rosemary how she felt when she was with Aster. If she did it could spoil their friendship. Amaryllis suddenly realized how similar she was to Sage after all. She dropped her competitive facade and told Sage to tell Rosemary what she felt or else she might never get the chance to. It seemed to work. As for Snapdragon, she didn't care what form he took one day or another, she just wanted him in her life.
Oregano-- or as many called him, Slime Boy, came from a poor family who sold pipe weed and other recreational drugs. After enough money was scraped up, his parents were able to get him into the academy to have better opportunities. But Oregano was socially awkward and got pushed into a vat of slime on the training grounds. When he crawled out a slime familiar crawled out with him and wouldn't leave. Clover dubbed him as Slime Boy and the mean nickname stuck. Oregano tried to play it off like a silly prank or maybe he meant to dive in, but deep down he felt depressed. Hardly anyone actually bothered to ask him what his real name was. He had Jelly the slime always following him. He found some skill as a bard and discovered something strange with Jelly when he played music. Depending on the tempo, it would morph and move with the song. He found it to be an effective way to do combat. Even got a chance to get back at Clover by having Jelly poke slime all over him. Oregano was starting to like his nickname after that.
(Parnell and Cal are getting a complete redo-- new names and backgrounds!)
Marsala was the son of Tarragon the combat teacher, an plucky rogue with a love of pranks. Despite his size he was great at stealth. Even his Amphibian Goat Poppy would tag along with him. Both had quite the love for snacks. His cousin Clover in the meantime was taken in recently after his parents went missing in action and were presumed dead. Clover went from a fun loving knight to a brooding bully. He'd take his abandonment issues out on other students like Snapdragon, commenting his glamours were a waste of magic and he'd be dead before allowing him on his team. This lead to bitter fights that his uncle would have to break up. Marsala would try to cheer him up, but it did little to sooth his temper. Yet Marsala would try to brush off the bullying, claiming his cousin was just having a bad day and everything was fine. Clover was often seen with Aster trying to build up their team.
Lastly, Aster. An older student who was a bit of a metal head. Like Rosemary he wanted to kick some serious ass and have songs written about his deeds of total badassery. Warpaint and all. But while he was exceptional on the battlefield, he couldn't bear to allow someone else have their time in the lime light. This made Rosemary take a step back to realize maybe she was being the same way around Sage. The next time she found her it hit her how much Sage had been bottling up. She finally spilled her guts on her feelings and expected it to totally backfire. But Rosemary embraced her telling it that was the bravest thing she had seen her do and that she loved her back.
How was this? I knew this was gonna be tricky since Slime Boy has such meme-ablity and that Snapdragon and Amaryllis have more love since they have some resemblance of arcs. Plus the dreaded "transition magic" topic. I think how it works is there's transformation magic which is old magic, a glamour that adjusts you. Young, old, male, female. But it still drains stamina overtime. This makes some guardians judge it as a cosmetic spell. New magic as shapeshifting, you can turn into anyone and anything, the king, your best friend, a dragon. It's very powerful and corrupts the earth with rot like crazy. It's looked down upon because spies use this a lot for nefarious reasons and it's in the process of being rendered illegal. The teachers are still a work in progress but Caraway and Tarragon (aka Hakone) are significantly improved upon.

Cal: Why can't I get a date?
Parnelle: There's a shadowy cabal of powerful people who control everything and everyone.
Cal: That makes a lot of sense.

More Myrna and cake!
From 1937, Myrna Loy and director John Stahl share birthday cake with Clark Gable on the set of the film Parnell.
Parnell, by the way, was a commercial flop! I've seen it, it's not that bad though.
