Drove down to the Island to see Ma and thought it too good a day not to do a drive with her! I rang ahead to make sure she could come out of the home, picked her up and off we went! Over to Churchill Island to see the Highland cattle and bird life! Mum thoroughly enjoyed the trip sipping on a cappuccino and eating a sausage roll from the Newhaven bakery! On our return we drove across the San Remo bridge then did a u turn and back to the island and a drive along the Esplanade to view Bass Strait and take a selfie ( requested by Ma) A nice change from the air conditioned confines of the nursing home! Hugs required. Lots of them. It took us years to finally create a fleet of buddy boats that suited us all. Liveaboatd families that were willing to change plans to stick together. This can be rare as we all value our independence and autonomy. Yet there we were island-hopping with this amazing group. 🇧🇸 • Like the Covid-free kid fleet we created last summer in Maine, our Bahamas crew was made up of people from all walks of life. Kids ranging in age from 18 months to 16 years. We had bonfires and potlucks, spear fishing trips and sundowners, birthday parties and movie nights. And, of course, Shabbat. It was marvelous and none of us wanted it to end. • But Mother Nature and boat problems conspired against us and we were forced to say goodbye. While our buddy boats are now headed south and north for the fast approaching hurricane season, the Dawn Treader and her crew had to make an unexpected crossing back to Florida. 😭😭😭 • The crossing was rough. I even got sick, which never happens. But that was nothing compared with the heartsick feeling that we all have from saying goodbye, not knowing if we will see these friends again. Even if we do, the odds of recreating this special Bahamas kid boat fleet is slim.
