So Xylo has a finance? Or former finance, at least on his terms but not on hers. She wants to pardon him but he’s considered a hero and can’t marry under the current conditions. The interesting thing here is he doesn’t seem all that opposed to her in particular. Frenci is levelheaded, straightforward and doesn’t flinch despite anything Xylo or Teoritta says. She’s calm in a mild mannered way but confident and doesn’t let the others sway her.

I’d be curious about his past with Frenci too. Was it ever romantic or just a contract? Are they friends at least? They seem friendly enough with one another, she’s one of a few people Xylo doesn’t speak curtly to and is more open around. He even laughs about their past. Just an interesting peek into his life before becoming a hero. Clever how she picked up on Kivia being there and giving a lame excuse for eves-dropping. There could be jealousy there because it’s fairly obvious Kivia is crushing on Xylo already but may not have known he had a finance.

That being said Xylo is as dense as a rock where any girl is concerned so it’d probably take an eternity before he figured out feelings for either of them. My only issue with any of this is I don’t want Teoritta to be a lolicon figure. I like her brother / sister, father / daughter dynamic with Xylo and I don’t want that to be ruined if she gets a twisted crush on him that’s wholly unrealistic and we have the whole child jealousy angle.

My housemates and I are watching Sentenced To Be a Hero as a household and honestly it's probably one of the best written animes/stories I've watched in a long ass time.

You've got all your typical character types but instead of being bland cardboard cut outs they actually manage to have depth and their own personalities. It's like all those really interesting world concepts in other animes that over explain everything with video game terms and logic. Only this time they got rid of the video game aspect and just kept the cool ass world and went back to writing good fantasy and allowing the world to reveal itself with the story rather than exposition.

Wow! What a neat idea! Actually telling a creative story though showing us the world!!

Ahem, anyway. Can you tell I have beef with anime? Moving on.

Xylo comes dangerously close to being a typical flat stoic character but then he'll say or do little things that tell of a deeper story and the anime does a great job at showing his internal conflicts rather than just telling us about it. He's also not hopelessly awkward like a lot of male leads in anime tend to be around women. It's refreshing. Maybe I just watch shitty anime all the time.

Teoritta teeters back and forth between being the insufferable bratty cutesy classic jealous anime girl and genuinely endearing. It's also nice to see that this is just actually how most goddesses seem to be and not just her. So she's just a product of her nature and I can forgive that. Also, she actually calls Xylo out on his bullshit and he's mature enough to listen and accept that she's right. I cannot tell you how refreshing this is to me oh my gosh.

Patausche- yeah I'm not spelling that name again- Commander Girl, yeah that'll work, looks like she's going to be an insufferable hard ass bitch but then she actually shows human compassion and understanding. Like she's legitimately well written. She might have a little crush on Xylo but it's not enough to distract her from her job or drive her to do idiotic jealousy wars with Teoritta. And I hella respect that. You go Commander Girl, you're badass.

The King, Majesty, whatever his real name is doesn't matter cause he's 100% a king in my eyes even if he isn't really a king!! What a fun character! What a guy! I'd unquestioningly follow him into battle too. He's so confident and everyone just plays along with his delusion and it's the best. 10/10 no notes.

The zombie guy that we know basically nothing about is also a fantastic character. He clearly knows what he's doing but at the same time has zero braincell energy to the point birds land on him like he's a gargoyle and I love that about him. What a tragic character, what a fun dude.

And the rest of the characters are good too but haven't left enough of an impression yet. At least for me.
