Klout and ROI
Hello everyone! Hope you all are doing great! Have you ever heard of the fact that some recruiters hold contests among their employees to improve their Klout score? Recently I have stumbled across this term Klout in very good book (authored by Mark W. Schaefer) on one’s (online) Return on Influence (ROI); not return on investment by the way. This book was a text in our Social Media class at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The book outlines the interesting facts about whether someone is worthy of attention or not, and talks about how someone who has something valuable to say is recognized by this Klout score.
It was really fascinating to know how social algorithms can predict the types of behaviors with regard to a person's consumption habits! Not only Klout, there are other platforms and websites like PeerIndex, BackTweets, Booshaka, Empire Aveune, Kred, My Web Career, PROSkore, ShopIgniter, Social Business Index, Social Mention, SocMetrics, Soovox, Sprout Social, Square Grader, TwentyFeet, Twitalyzer, Twitter Counter, etc. that measure one’s online influence. The list is growing every day. Schaefer briefly discusses all these popular platforms and websites on his book ‘Return on Influence’.
Here is a video on how Klout scores work, uploaded by Jim Carey, Medill IMC Program’s YouTube channel:
Don’t ignore your online influence, you might just get rewarded based on your online influence and it is no joke! Virgin America has provided free flights on its Toronto route based on peoples’ online influence! It decided to make those 120 people feel special by extending free flights! A person's Klout or PeerIndex score as a badge of social scoring really matters! Whether someone is an ‘Igniter’ or is a ‘Citizen Influencer’ could make the optimum use of the virtually free, global and instantaneous communication system available in today's world! These fundamental underpinnings of online influence are ultimately paying off by creating an online influencer a somewhat micro-celebrity!
Word of Mouth is the only kind of persuasive appeal that really works like no other form of human communication! I have learned so many useful tips from Mark Schaefer’s book ‘Return on Influence’. For example, the tip of ‘tapping into consumer emotion and inserting some entertainment value’, and also ‘the interesting fact about peoples’ impactful presence that continues to move virally’. Also 'honest human emotions' is what that could cut through the sea of clutter.
Here is the snapshot I have done on my very recent Klout score:
The foundation of the Klout commercial program is its Perks. The sponsors of Klout Perk packages offer exclusive offers to Klout high scorers. Examples include test drive, exclusive screening of movies, access to film festivals, access to new technology, free food, free airport lounge passes, free trips to exotic locations, and even free chair massages!
Here is a YouTube video upload of the Klout Perks on Ricola by Ashley Elizabeth:
American Airlines extended complimentary airport-lounge passes to its passengers with high Klout scores in 2013 and who knows, with a high Klout score, you might just end up traveling free to the Caribbean!
Here is a fabulous travel video guide on Caribbean destinations, uploaded by Donna Salerno Travel on its YouTube channel:
I hope you enjoyed the travel video on the Caribbean Islands. Keep increasing your score on Klout, and be sure to check out the Return on Influence by Mark W. Schaefer! This book was the winner of a ‘Choice Magazine Outstanding Business Book of the Year Award’!
