#HuionTips: How to do line drawing practice? - Part 2

In the part 1 of drawing tips, we have learnt about how to hold your pen stably (check the part 1) and now your shaky hands are ready to draw!

To start drawing, line drawing practice is the essential part of getting clean and smooth lines.

Here are 3 key points of line drawing practice:

Draw dense lines.

Maintain the spacing and stability.

Keep a consistency of line weights.

Secondly, make the marker on the canvas and start practice.

You could try to practice from the basic straight lines and gradually move the the irregular lines. The marker could help you check the straight lines and design more irregular lines or your proper textures.

Secret to the perfect line: Practice!

went out with kuya @huybryy again, as usual i get to stay inside the car while he buys for everything. staying inside the car means selfie sessions again hehe.

earlier, kuya asked me again if i'm free in a bit, said yes, so we went to the usual and bought our usuals again. no coffee for today tho, we had steeped tea instead.

after buying our usuals, we went to our serene place to stay for just a bit because we can't stay for long. kuya then asked if i'll be doing something when i reach home, i said none. then he handed me this paper bag, which i already have a hint on what's inside. i suddenly shrieked in awe when i got to confirm that it is the surprise gift he bought for me last week.

it's a pen tablet, Huion HS64 to be exact. i've been eyeing for this one for quite long (because it can be used in a phone and also in a computer) and i was about to buy it for myself but some unexpected circumstance happened. i'll tell you the story on how kuya knew i want one.

so, it was a sale on lazada and shopee, then kuya told me he's window shopping (scam). i told him that i'll look into this pen tablet i want and see if it's on sale too. i was shocked to see that the pentab is, and it dropped for almost 50% from its original price. i immediately said that to kuya and he asked to see the item too. disappointed because of what happened earlier that day, i shrugged off because i can't but the pentab this time. it was a big "sayang" because the price really dropped, and it was my dream tab. minutes later, kuya told me that he looked into the reviews and that i don't have a choice to say no because he already bought it (pen tablet) for me as a gift. i swear, i cried and shrieked the moment he said that. AS IN, CRIED. i asked what i did to deserve it but he said it's a "kuya duties." also, i kinda forgot that i tweeted about "sana ol may pentab." i swear i didn't intend for someone to sponsor me, it was an impulsive tweet because i was getting frustrated with drawing using a rubber stylus and my phone. kuya said he saw the tweet, but that time i didn't know that he followed me with his new twitter account. so, yeah, maybe 'sana ol' really works.

kuya didn't tell me that the pen tablet arrived already, he surprised me by giving it without me having a hint. super excited upon arriving home, i immediately went into my room (after sanitizing ofc) and unboxed the package.

and i tell you guys, it's very pretty! the packaging is so decent. i tried the product in my phone immediately and fell in love with it in an instant. now, i'm here stuck in my 7-year old laptop trying to configure and install programs i can use with the pentab. please pray for my laptop tho, she getting there HAHA.

can't wait to explore digital arts with this tab ♥

For The First Time in Forever: Bedah Pen Tablet !

Baik. Sebelum saya mulai, saya mau sungkeman dulu sama sponsor utama yaitu Abang saya yang tinggal di Subang sana. Matur nuwun THR nya, rezeki lancar samamu bang. Aamiin.

Kita mulai dari penampakan luarnya dulu. Let’s begin!

As you can see, pen tablet yang dipesan sama beliau adalah merk Veikk S640. Pen tablet ini punya working area seluas 6 x 4 inch yang tergolong kecil dengan tingkat sensitivitas tekanan (pada pen-nya) mencapai 8192, which means sudah sangat sensitif seperti kulit bayi. Ini maksudnya ketika kita pakai gambar/ cursor, kita gak perlu terlalu menekan si pen-nya, begitu. Kuy langsung kita intip!

Cilukbaaa. Yang bikin saya kaget pas buka kotaknya adalah...  ini gak kesikitan ya isinya? Prentelannya ini doang? Ternyata emang iya. Saya aja yang merasa isinya bakal banyak macem ehe. So inside the box yang akan saya bahas satu satu ada :

1. Driver Download Card

Kartu yang warna biru-putih itu berisi website untuk mengunduh driver-nya si pen tablet ini. For free, of course. Gampang dimengerti dan tidak ribet..

2. Tablet

Ini bukan papan ujian, mon maap. Ini tabletnya gais. Kecil dan tipis sekali seperti badan yang punya. It looks classy tho. Permukaannya lembut, agak sedikit keset. Kalo takut tangannya berkeringat trus tabletnya malah jadi makin keset, bisa disiasati dengan memakai tisu.

Ini bukan antena tipi, mon maap. Ini si tablet yang saya foto dari sisi samping. Kalo tadi kan dari atas. Tipis parah kan? Ini suatu plus point sih buat saya. Kenapa? Karena dia tipis jadi seakan menyatu dengan meja kerja. Pas ngegambar tuh merasa kaya gambar di atas meja aja gitu, which is nais!

Oh iya untuk kalian yang sering menggerakkan lengan ketika menggambar, you should choose the bigger-size one. Kalo yang tabletnya kecil begini biasanya untuk mereka yang seringnya menggerakkan pergelangan tangan aja.

3. Pen

Kesan pertama: alus pisan euy. Tekstur pen-nya lembut jadi bikin nyaman pas megang. Mana dapet case pen-nya pula. Cuma ya ukuran diameternya lebih gede dibanding pulpen/pensil biasa, so you must practice a lot to adjust with it. Nah kemaren saya bingung tuh tombol di pen-nya buat apaan. Ternyata tombol yang sebelah kiri (dari foto) itu fungsinya sama kaya klik-kanannya mouse, dan tombol yang sebelah kanan itu untuk switch from pen to eraser saat menggambar. Menarik sih, jadi emang pas nyobain langsung tuh ya baru paham ooohh.. begidu... ooohh...

4. Spare Nibs and Nibs Remover

Oke. Nib adalah ujung si pena yang kita pake buat menyentuh permukaan tablet. Yang bentuknya kayak anak peluru tuh, naah itu si nibs. Dikasih tujuh cadangan nibs untuk bisa kita ganti sewaktu-waktu nibs yang dipake udah mulai soak atau gak enakeun. Yang bentuknya kayak kunci, itu bukan kunci apartemen yah. Itu alat untuk ngelepasin si nib dari pen. Caranya? Ada di nomor 5.

5. Quick Start Guide

Seperti judulnya ya, quick. Beneran ini teh singkat padat jelas instruksinya. Lu mau sambil salto, kayang, makan kuwaci juga lu pasti bisa paham dan mengikuti instruksinya dengan baik hingga berhasil ter-install.

Untuk harga, pen tablet dengan specs seperti Veikk S640 ini berkisar antara IDR 400 - 500k. Yang mirip ini tuh ada juga merk Huion, itu juga affordable dengan spec yang memadai. Mau yang agak mahal? Ada, merk Wacom. Ini mah kayak rajanya pen tablet yak, kalo Bang Roma kan raja dangdut. Wacom kayaknya emang bagus banget sampe harganya jutaan. Tapi untuk pemula, Veikk and Huion can be very recommended.

I recently had the good fortune to receive a XP-Pen Deco Pro Small pen tablet from the lovely guys at XP-Pen and they asked me to review their product. That doesn’t mean that I’ll be bias in any way, just because I got free stuff, I’m still giving my honest opinion. The reason I attached the “Gate keeper” with this post because I used the Deco Pro to create this image in Photoshop. First and foremost let’s talk about the design of this thing. The construction of the tablet is very sturdy with some aluminium alloy, that gives it some nice weight. It’s a lovely looking unit, very elegant, and in just like the case of a WACOM, the controls are on one however you have the option to flip the tablet in settings if you are a left handed bugger like me. The tablet is sleek, love the little light up options in the controls, and the corners that signify the borders of the drawing surface. Working with the Decor Pro is also a pleasure, the sensitivity is superb, and there is no drag. What I might mention here, is that the drivers (that you have to download from the XP website) do work fine however what happened to me that after some time of not using the tablet, the drivers simply disappeared and stopped working (I’m working with an IMac). I’m not sure if it’s an isolated incident and happened only with me, or a bug. The controls are easy to program (you can do that in the tablet preferences), my only issue was that I don’t seem to have a sufficient option to drag the image I’m working on. The drawing surface, while it has some texture to it shows absolutely no signs of wear (like it does on a new WACOM) after hours of working with the unit. In a nutshell my verdict is that it’s very enjoyable to work with the XP-Pen tablet. The unit is a fantastic budget tablet (for only £90 for the small one is a true steal) and I’d very much recommend this for anyone who would like to get submerged into digital art, but doesn’t have the funds for a more expensive product.
