Awareness
Hey guys, normally I post art and things rather light-hearted but today I have a bit more serious topic to discuss. First off, today is Easter right? A day where people can get together, hunt eggs, go to church and have a good time with family right? Well, not today.
Today in Sri Lanka there was a series of bombings that occured in hotels and churches. At least 207 people were killed and 400+ people were injured. You might just glance over this and say "Oh, I don't know anyone who was hurt/killed" and move on. But other people do, other families are mourning the loss of their loved ones and hoping that the people injured will live through the night. And you know why people have done this? Hate.
People look at major hate events, like genocides and shootings and say "That won't happen nowadays." And when it does, so many people just seem to ignore it because it either doesn't concern them or they don't want to think about it. People say "There needs to be change!!!" But sit back and do nothing. Some because they don't actually care and they just want to sound like they do, and some because they're scared that if they do they'll be offed for it.
Modern people are apathetic, and that most of all scares me. We see these kind of things in our videogames, movies, even merchandise so often that we just kind of go numb to it. The fact that people think that something doesn't matter because they can't do anything about it now that it's already happened makes me physically ill. A lot of people would rather go watch funny cat videos or play a videogame than look up and reach out. People need our help guys, they need to learn that hate isn't the answer to everything. That responding to something that you don't like with violence only leads to retaliation and more hate. You aren't making anything better by doing this, you aren't making a point, you aren't solving a problem, you're just killing innocent people for the crime of living. And that's not right, there were children killed in those explosions. Little kids! Call me crazy, but if someone kills for religious reasons I don't think they'd get a reward for killing non-believers. If you don't like a religion that someone believes in, just practice your own and let them be. There doesn't have to be a master religion, isn't that the whole point of free will? You may serve your deity, but you still have free will to manage your own life. Some people may call that blasphemous, but I will never understand how people would think they would get rewarded for taking lives and hurting people. It's just not how the world works.
I may be only a teenager, but I'm old enough to understand that the way people treat each other and problems is wrong. It seems either no one cares and or they take the extremist route. It's easier to hate than love is the long and short of it. People setting fire to churches, bombing them, mass murdering, I wonder if they're proud of themselves. But I'm begging anyone who reads this, please, speak out to stop this! Step up to the light and tell people that "THIS IS ENOUGH". Stop the hate and stop the killing, there is no reason to it! Don't kill others for the crime of living their lives the way they want! We are all human, and we all are different. But just because we are different doesn't mean we have to hate one another. This goes for everyone, not just religion! Whether your being hated for who you love, what your skin color is, heck, for what movies you like to watch, hang in there. We'll all try to make the world a better place, we just need enough people to do it. Please, let's stand together and not just mourn what's already happened, but try to stop events like this from happening in the first place by simply learning to coexist with one another
Something that really bothers me is when someone suddenly acts like they can't stand to be around you and then you never see them again, leaving you wondering what you could have possibly done. It's especially hard when they were so important.
