I think an important part of Percabeth's relationship is that Annabeth knew the full prophecy all along. From the first time she saw Percy, she knew he was fated to die at 16, if not before. She pushed him away to protect herself from the pain of losing him. She befriended him even though she knew their time was short. She took a knife for him even though he might not get another day either way. And when he didn't die? They started dating right away. She no longer had to worry about loosing him.

Then one day, he goes missing.

annabeth taking the knife for percy was peak impulsiveness at that stage of their relationship. because up until this point of the series. if i'm remembering correctly. all of annabeth actions were calculated. even her stubborn actions had merit. but taking the knife? knowing he was invulnerable? but taking the knife? knowing that him watching you cry out in agony hurt him just the same if he had been stabbed? but taking the knife? and then lying on a cot in the glisten of the setting sun? vulnerable and slow? grounding him like he's the one who needed saving? like watching you bleed out is enough to kill him? and touching the small of his back brings him back to life? impulsiveness turned romantic. turned angst. turned 'all the words i didn't say but you heard them anyway'. don't talk to me.

annabeth had to spend all those six months seeing jason and piper falling in love while hoping that percy wasn't doing the same in camp jupiter 😭

do you ever think about how at the end of TTC, annabeth was coming to terms with the fact that she was going to lose the love of her life (that she wasn't supposed to fall for bcz prophecy), the first person in her entire life who understood her (like really truly understood her) to the prophecy that thalia gave back to him (not her fault), preparing to lose him and the hurt and pain that a percy-less world would bring for her, while, for percy, the ending of TTC was the first time he had relaxed since she'd been taken cuz he hadn't lost her to the huntresses? or are you normal?

percy: …

percy: i scared you

annabeth: …

annabeth: you did…

annabeth: but i thought i was gonna lose you. i thought i was gonna lose you like-

annabeth: we were in hell. neither of us were doing ok, mentally or physically, we had to push ourselves to the brink-

percy: that wasnt as far as i could go

annabeth: .!…

percy: i couldve done worse,,, i wanted to do worse… and that,

percy: and that hasnt left

percy: i still want her dead

percy: i still want her choking on her own blood, her own tears, her own poison, her own domain

percy: that… annabeth that part of me isnt going anywhere…

annabeth: not who the gods want you to be, not know poseidon hopes youll be, not who sally thinks you are, you.

annabeth: i want to know who my boyfriend really is

annabeth: what he likes,,, what he needs,,, what he thinks and does,,,

annabeth: i want to know my boyfriend, all the good and bad parts

annabeth: i want to know the flaws of my boyfriend, the same boyfriend that accepted all my flaws

annabeth: i want to know you from you percy, not who you think you are or should be
