. . . she felt the difference between herself and them. She gave them her news and they gave her theirs, but the transactions were made in different currencies; they were token presents, manifestations of family solidarity, rather than an interchange of confidences.

#32
perfunctory
(of an action or gesture) carried out with a minimum of effort or reflection
p. 33
Truly, it is not knowledge which defiles a man, far from it. Knowledge is like the sheerest transparency, precisely the most perfect and purest, like the purest water, which has no taste at all.
Soren Kierkegaard
"Do you think this is a fantasy world?"
"Of course not, where is the fantasy when experiencing it right before yourself?"
-When you reduce it down to a singular concept, prospective perspective within humanity.-
I genuinely don't care what people think, but I also don't expect them to give the bare minimum of respect. Yes, of course not everyone. But the fact that it exists, and it's in everyday, That's the difference.
Everyday is a battle, so I inherently and consistently apply my war paint. Infinity in geometry, mirrored every angle, the two reflections never the same.
It is so simple, a homunculus, an artificial human. Walking amongst the everyday, witnessing and encouraging. Because it's not so simple for so many, and the pressures can be eased so very indifferently.
A kind-eyed smirk and the tilt of the head, a wide-eyed pout with a curious smile, the gesture of your hand to say thank you to a stranger at a distance. A side step "Ope!" to make the pedestrian giggle. The lift of a single finger, and a turn from the direction while you focus, oh how the anger subsides.
Everything insignificant is entirely significant. Everything is mathematics, and karma speaks 0 through 9. Binary accomplishes so little.
Weibo and I agree so fundamentally. “从未见过如此敷衍的祝福 告辞“
There’s this word...
For the last month I have had the word “perfunctory”on repeat in my head. The imagery of the old lady at the end of “Titanic” casually chucking the bazillion-dollar blue diamond into the ocean comes to mind as well. This is because I have been ruminating over something since I returned from California.
It really comes down to recognizing how attractive effort is, as well as being around people who appreciate and value me. Reminding myself that I was once willing to cross an ocean for someone who wasn’t even willing to cross a puddle for me. Perfunctory.
YAY, Friday!
