Although the cover depicts Green Lantern stopping a plane that is strafing the Perisphere at the New York World's Fair (and the future home of the All-Star Squadron), no such scene occurs inside the book.

However, in a rarity for Golden Age comic book covers, the cover is accurate in that Green Lantern actually does appear at the World's Fair in the story. In fact, the climax features him battling a murderous mobster on top of the Perisphere whom GL, inexplicably, allows fall off to his death.

Maybe the guy was wearing a wood suit.

Rosalie Fairbanks, a guide to the New York World's Fair, points to the fair's joint symbols, the Trylon and Perisphere, February 22, 1939. The entire sheath of scaffolding was removed for the first time on this day. The Trylon and Perisphere symbolized progress—the theme of the fair was "The World of Tomorrow." (In those days, people believed that life would improve in the future.)
