Life Is Good 9 April 2017 Perth is perfect in April. This vignette sums up my ideal Autumn weekend: 6.2km walk to the beach for morning coffee; homemade shakshuka eggs for brunch (because I make them better!); and the view during yesterday’s 44km round river ride. Not pictured is my bike! But you get lots of that. 😉🍂☕🌊🍳
And tonight, pilsener, pizza & pavé. The Husb, My Girl & I met some friends at The Local Hotel to watch the epic Paris-Roubaix cycle race, aka Hell of the North. I won a bike wall rack in the quiz! I also bought two cool posters designed locally for this year’s Belgium Spring Classics.

Wheels, Eggs & Razor Wire 4 April 2017 The Husb and I spent the afternoon in Fremantle. Rob took some bike wheels to a repair guru working out of the old Freo prison - the cells accommodate micro businesses. Melody Wheels is situated directly above the solitary confinement cell of a notorious serial killer - ugh. Wandering down the main street, I impulse-bought Rob some cool threads for his birthday next week; then we had lunch at Il Cibo (where the kitchen is open for lunch until 3.00pm - thank you for being civilised).
Bountiful 2 January 2017 I went mulberry picking at my friend Kerrie’s house with My Girl and her Boy. Yes I have splatters around my mouth!
Winding up Day 2 of 2017 with a win. I ran 5.7km this morning, disrobed the Christmas tree (a marathon job), vacuumed up all the needles and debris, and went mulberry picking. Weight training is on my Monday program but the tree job replaced it. Luckily The Husb helped with dinner because I am exhausted! I have 12,000 FitBit steps at 8.00pm - that’s it - blobbing on the couch now in front of The Americans - a really good TV series about Russian spies. 🍇😜🍇😜🍇
Aussie BBQ: Summer Night ¾ January 2017 Last night My Girl and her bf came over for a BBQ. The evening was perfect after a very hot day; warm & still. Coincidentally, The BF & I both had gut pain and severe bloating that had come on at lunchtime. Dinner didn’t make us feel any better or worse and neither of us could pinpoint a particular trigger, except maybe the mulberries we’d both eaten for breakfast. The 4.5-hour delay in symptoms and the fact that it came on during lunch suggests not. Lunch was safe. Usually if I react to a food it comes on quicker than that. I retired with a distended belly that was all painful gas.
It has diminished somewhat this morning but not altogether gone. Maybe we have a bug. Or maybe mulberries have a high fructose/sorbitol combination - they are not on my FODMAP guide but an Internet search suggested they are not high fructose (which alone doesn’t upset me anyway). When my symptoms have completely settled, I’ll try the mulberries again and see what happens.
The Sounds of Perth is a combination of sounds and noises from around the city of Perth on a cold Monday afternoon in winter.
