Saturna Petalina
starter for @petalina
Forays into Midgar are best conducted at certain times during the week. Tuesday evenings in particular are his favorite. The work week has just begun, and wage-earners are still fresh from the weekend. Fewer people find excuses to eat out, fewer people are able to find time after sundown for recreational activities. Those few who do often find themselves on LOVELESS Ave. at an appointed time– naturally, to enjoy that evening’s performance of LOVELESS.
In sum, fewer people on the street.
Sephiroth draws the collar of his thick, woolen coat closer about his neck. His breath escapes in small puffs of misty condensation as he strolls down the street with his both hands deeply in his pockets.
Protection from the bite of winter windchill gives him some comfort, though he has managed with less in worse weather. His footfalls against the cobblestone street seem amplified by the sparse crowds that usually fill in the silence with the thrum of their conversation and laughter. A few vagabonds here and there, equally bundled up for the winter, huddle under dim lamplight and talk amongst themselves. Sephiroth ignores the inevitable stares that follow him as though he has encountered an invisible net.
If he has to guess, there are maybe twenty minutes remaining before the last act of LOVELESS closes and the theater releases its audience out into the street. He opts to continue walking with his eyes down and focus inward– only to find that after a few feet, a roadblock suddenly stands in his way.
Impeded by a pair of petite brown boots, Sephiroth blinks and looks up to face their owner. “Pardon me…”

“I’ve never seen such a BEAUTIFUL flower! Is it really alright for me to just take it?”
@petalina--
a smile worn upon her lips, aerith doesn't utter a single word. she simply reaches for zack's hand and interlocks their fingers together with a soft squeeze. happy cetra is happy < 3
Zack squeezes back and tenderly rubs the back of her hand with his thumb. He doesn’t say anything either-- this little moment is theirs. He’ll keep it in his memories, to hold dear on the days they had to be apart.
@petalina --
hey, you. let’s go for a walk. just us two! whaddya say?
Plant life is an anomaly here, he realizes within his first few early days in Midgar. Sometimes he sits at the edge of the broken floorboards in the church, staring into a field of flowers that are unlike anything else within a hundred and fifty miles distance of Midar's outer boundaries. At times, it feels weird to admit that the flowers are one of the few things that remind him of home.
Gongaga is lush and green, vibrant with the sort of endemic plant and animal life that would have never survived the smog and iron jaws of the city. He doesn't think of home much these days, not that he has the time to.
Zack peels his eyes away from the garden of pale, curved petals and at Aerith, who's half-bent over while peering at him with a playful smile. He smiles back. "Oh? Is this another trick to get me to buy you lunch?" he teases, unfolding his legs and standing up to pull her into a brief, one-armed embrace. A chaste kiss is planted gently on her temple before Zack sweeps them both around towards the entryway. "Let's go!"
plops herself upon a bench. she pats the space next to her, “ here, cloud~ ” -- from @petalina
That had very much been an order and not a request. Cloud frowns, stubbornly lingering on his feet before giving up with a small sigh. He sits down, leaving enough space for another person...or two...to sit between them. “What’s this all about, then?”
Perfect.
I have a request for petalia. Could you please add arrow keys for movement also, and maybe make holding alt make her strafe instead of turning so at least the controls are like Doom for the time being?
Oh friend, this is only the very first peek at what I've been working on for 2 days. It in no way reflects how the controls will be in the end, let alone in the next peek I upload! My plan is to have at least 4 different control schemes (WASD, arrows, mouse, controller) on top of customizable controls (Unity's built-in customizer, at least).
I'm trying to figure out the best option for strafing at the moment, though. My goal is to make the game like Super Mario 64 or (the first) Spyro, and I don't think either of them have strafing. Instead, the camera is just a lot more free, remaining in place as the character instantly changes direction and runs relative to where the camera is facing. Ultimately, I want to do everything in my power to have the best camera I can, in an attempt to prevent the camera problems in the old 3D Platformers like the aforementioned games. It's definitely not going to always just be stuck to Petalina's back.
In the meantime, however, holding alt to strafe is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
