Last week, a Nicky Hopkins tribute site retweeted “Mother of Pearl,” a peter chauncey track I played piano on. This is a particular honor for me as a keyboard player, as the late, great Nicky Hopkins was the highly celebrated pianist for the “who’s who” of British Rock (Beatles, Jeff Beck Group, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Who, Yardbirds) and several California groups including (my favorite San Francisco band) Quicksilver Messenger Service. Nicky’s keyboard work is heard regularly on classic rock playlists around the world. His influence on recording and rock music collaborations is inestimable.
