There aren't words sweet enough to express how much we love tumblr user @seek--rest! Rather than try to attest to just how talented, whip-smart, and full of heart Seek is, we thought we'd let her writing speak for itself. Below, you'll find some of our favorite seekrest fics, along with the reasons we love them. Join in on the Seek Day spirit (and bless your own life) by checking one out and leaving a comment!
1. Kintsugi (series)
@abcd-em: This whole series is something I think of so regularly. I remember reading it the first time and the breaks I needed to so I could keep reading through tears. I read it at a time where I had a lot of big feelings and big changes happening in my life, and reading someone capture the hope that can come from tragedy and the echoes that people leave in our lives. Even just thinking about it now I have this lump in my throat that won't quite go away but I am excited for the catharsis that'll come from the cry that these words bring. The beautiful little mess that is MJ-Johnny dealing with the massive Peter sized hole in their life... there is happiness, there is hope and there is hurt - none of these things cancel out the other... imagine being able to capture the experience of being human... damn.
2. Wonderstruck (series)
@abcd-em: WONDERSTRUCK MY BELOVED
everytime I do my bi-annual re-read I am (wonder)struck by the fact so much of this series is one shots??? Bc??? There is a whole WORLD crafted in there that is so in-depth with how it creates a universe with MJ at the centre and prioritises her connection to it that I feel I've read a whole novel by how well I know these characters.
If wonderstruck has no fans I'm dead
3. No Need to Say Goodbye
@the--journeys: Only Seek could turn dead May Parker into something I'm not only willing to read, but something so aching and EXCELLENT I think about it 24/7/365. It's got all the seekrest hallmarks: a lived-in and believable world, character voices that are so alive and correct they practically jump off the page, and most importantly, an ending infused with a boatload of hope. I've reread this one a million times over, and it still hits me nearly as hard as the first time I read it and-- in Seek's immortal words-- "fell to my knees in a Denny's parking lot."
4. the one you can't repair
@the--journeys: I could shout about this fic from the rooftops until I die, and I think that I will! To storm so brazenly into the pjo fandom and dare to write a fic that... not only treats a side character with so much more respect than the fandom at large ever has, but builds out an entertaining study of that character and drops a gut punch of a sentence every other line that will change the reader's perception of them forever? Likely place for Seek to be. This one is such a breath of fresh air amid rancid pjo show discourse and can only have ever been the product of a writer with an absolute galaxy brain.
5. off i go
@missamyshay: If there’s one thing seek knows how to do it’s kill off Peter Parker (as is her right!) And yet every MCD she writes is unique and meaningful, never just for shock value. off i go is one of those fics that sit with you long after you’ve read it. The narrative is passed from hand to hand so gently, so thoughtfully. It’s Peter Parker held in the minds and memories of regular New Yorkers as he’s ushered softly, painfully, and beautifully from this world to the next. In this fic, seek poetically demonstrates just how much all of our lives touch and intertwine, even when we don’t think they do.
6. sending my love
@missamyshay: May Parker’s Enduring Legacy!! sending my love focuses on a fleeting moment of magic and yet feels so grounded in real life that it’s hard not to imagine you’re in the diner with Peter and May, smelling the burnt coffee and bacon grease. This fic feels like a warm hug on a cold day, like a weighted blanket in a chilly room. Favourite line: “Only a good person worries about messing things up.”
We guarantee there's a seekrest fic out there for everyone (with 340 written and counting!) If you have a fave, please feel free to add on!
Wishing a wonderful Seek day to us all. Happy reading!
