15: What is your favorite word?

My inner Gale is jumping out 😂 I have to say, going back to my science roots, I love the names of a lot of the periodic table elements. “Strontium” and “arsenic” are just really pleasing to say out loud (for me at least lol), but if I had to pick one for appearance, it would be “cobalt” – as someone who’s always looking for ways to describe colors, I just love the deep blue color of cobalt compounds! 💙

16: Are you more like your mom or your dad?

Both and also neither! I’ve always been told that I look like my dad – it’s all about the eyes and the freckles, I guess! And I think I’m more similar to my mom personality-wise, she’s more optimistic and upbeat. But neither of my parents are especially empathetic or good with handling emotions, which are both super important to me in terms of how I carry myself day to day, so that’s a pretty big difference between us!       

42: Favorite type of movie

I’m feeling in the mood for some psychological thrillers, so that’s what I’ll go with here!

47: What’s your favorite holiday?

Christmas! The winter holidays are one of the only times that I can go home and see my family – and usually we’ll visit our grandparents and other relatives as well. And also, I get to catch up with my high school friends!

1. what’s something you’ve improved in your writing recently?

ooh, playing with timelines i think! the last few chapters of safs i’ve let myself try new things and jump around in time more than i usually do. i’m not sure if i’ve gotten any better at it or if i’m just less scared to try it, but maybe being less scared is improving

39: How often do you listen to music?

Every day! Preferred genre is really hard to pin down since I’m kind of all over the place. I still listen to a lot of 90s alt rock and musical theater, which were the two genres that dominated my teen years. But I’ve been adding new artists to my playlists - I love Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish and everyone on the Birds of Prey soundtrack. 

48: Are you a forgiving person? Do you like being that way?

Yes and yes. I’m not completely grudge-free but in general, I’m easy-going.

Favorite band: my kneejerk answer seems to be faith no more but i’m pretty sure that’s wrong? i don’t care what faith no more is doing (or not doing) anymore and all the side bands are way more interesting (especially roddy’s Very Gay side projects). I think that was true maybe 25 years ago. Anyway the actual answer is The Posies.

89: Have you ever been too scared to watch scary movies alone? oh sure. I hardly watch scary movies even not alone. they have to be, like, good movies in addition to being scary? [Not that there’s anything wrong with movies that are just scary! I just have very limited time to watch movies and a very long list to watch and jump scares bug me.] otoh I used to watch whatever horror movies happened to be on tv (the House movies, mostly? from what I remember) and Freddy’s Nightmares and the Friday the 13th tv series whenever I was alone (ish) at night babysitting. So, like, who knows. Those were all way more gore than jump scares though.

meteor: do you have a favorite historical figure?Maria Montessori! She developed the Montessori method of education which was scientifically designed to target and facilitate the natural development of children. I’m gonna try not to geek out about this too much right here, but Maria Montessori was pretty rad (a little problematic but pretty RAD). She was a scientist, she cared deeply about children and providing good education to poorer classes, was outspokenly anti-Nazi, and was the first female medical doctor in Italy! So anyway she’s a definite fave!
