We celebrate Memorial Day to honor the US Armed Forces who died in service for our country. Keep those who died, their families and their fellow vets in mind, today and always. | Toxic Relationships | A fan crossed SO many barriers by making harmful assumptions and blaming @ArianaGrande for #Macmillers DUI. #ArianaGrande swiftly gathered him up and made him take SEVERAL seats. While there is A LOT to unpack here, I’ll focus on what was said: their relationship was toxic, and she was STILL blamed for leaving (even though she would’ve been blamed for staying as well, in re: @emilyb_ ) There are not straight answers for anything in this life but we have to start being more understanding of each other’s circumstances and practice jumping to support, rather than to criticize. Also I LOVE how this conversation went. “To who much is given, much is expected” ✨ I’ve been doing volunteer work and community service for much of my life now. At first it was presented as a resume builder as my high school but I really fell in love with it at Villanova. Volunteering has given me invaluable experiences and I encourage everyone to find someway to add it to their lives. I’ve visited kids in the oncological ward when I was a volunteer research assistant at Memorial Sloan Kettering, I’ve done intake at the Ronald McDonald House, tutored kids with learning disabilities in Philly, taught kids English in Monte Cristi, built a house in Belize City, I’m currently a Crisis Counselor at the @crisistextline and am training to be a Peer Educator for the Sexual Violence Response center at @columbiauniversity . Some may ask how I am able to do such heavy work when I struggle with depression and anxiety myself BUT when volunteering I have a constant influx of people making sure that I am prioritizing my own self-care. It also keeps me motivated, the more education and skills I gain, the more I can have an impact on communities in need. Do you volunteer? If not, whats stopping you? Let me know below! It’s #420 so let’s talk #Marijuana and Mental Health! 🍃 I personally don't partake bc #asthmatic 🤓 and I don't condone drug use BUT the push for legalization and decriminalization is getting stronger so let's get & stay educated. #knowledgeispower Lately marijuana has been praised to ease the symptoms of damn near everything it seems. But it can also increase anxiety, paranoia, mania, and depressive symptoms in some people. There has also been evidence of a 'new' side effect called cannabinoid hyperemesis (@doctor.darien explains it in his highlights, SO interesting). Deciding to use cannabis will always be a personal (& ADULT) choice but until it is legalized and regulated, there will be an unknown risk involved in it's use. If you so choose, I urge you to stay informed (@drugpolicyalliance is an awesome and trusted resource) and also be honest with your healthcare providers (find ones you trust) as drug use of any kind can obviously have a number of side effects and research for weed in particular is still in its infancy!
