Dead Friends Forever as text posts (episodes 1-4)
Bonus:
Something I do like about the character writing for DFF is that 1) The characters really do feel like messy teenagers 2) The characters do shitty things, hurt each other or do harmful things to themselves that - frustrating and painful as it is to watch - make sense for the character and their circumstances. The characters don't often make the smart or best decision, but for the most part, it makes sense in context.
Tw for discussion of sexual abuse
Can I just say... Phee is a great character.
He's a hopeless romantic
He's a wannabe fuckboy
He falls in love with his partners after having sex once
He's into photography
He has heart eyes when he looks at his crush
He has nasty rough sex
He wants to take care of his partners
He likes sad boys with pain kinks
He gets distracted from an information mission by a pretty face
He's just a horny teenager
I love him so much!
Phee and Jin as parallels in DFF episode 7
I feel like I haven't seen enough people talk about how Phee and Jin are parallels in episode 7. Both reacting in anger in ways that damage Non, and that they likely carry guilt for in the future...
Spoilers for episode 7 below:
Past...
Present...
Yeah I kinda understand why Jin bit him...
Ta Nannakun as "Phi Ratthakiat Phromjinda" and Copper Phuriwat Chotiratanasak as "Jin" Jinnaphat Sukmek - Dead Friend Forever episodes 1 and 9
Phee: *speaks*
Jin:
That’s very true about what you said regarding Jin. Perhaps that’s why he’s in denial about Non’s possible death and doesnt want to confront his role whether directly or indirectly in Non’s demise. Jin is going to have face that at some point.
Phee by a different token is probably carrying heavy guilt about his ‘last words? to Non and whether they were the catalyst to his death/disappearance too.
Oh absolutely to both of these.
Going off on a tangent here, but it's fascinating to me how Phee and Jin are foils to each other, shaped by their relationship with Non and romantic feelings for him.
Both try to act as Non's saviour. Both react poorly to the revelation of Non and Keng's sexual encounter, and do something highly harmful and hurtful to Non out of their own misplaced anger and hurt. Both now likely live with the guilt in the present day over what they did to Non. But while Jin is choosing to run away from Thailand to the USA - to flee his past - if Phee is indeed one of the killers, he's choosing to dig the past back up again, to get to the truth and give Non's tormenters hell to pay
When I tell you PheeJin is eating my brain I mean EATING it You see this???
I MEAN SERIOUSLY?? THE CHEMISTRY?? THE WAY THEY EAT EACH OTHER?????
And the TENSION??? Oh my god, I'm so obsessed with them. I need to know their backstory ASAP or I'll just keep making it up and writing fics about it!!! And now we've left them HERE???
LOCKED IN A COFFIN? I'm totally insane and I think about this 16 times a day 😭
