Something really saddening happened only 2 days ago.
Something which made me lose about 80GB of personal data, including private messages between loved ones, friends and colleagues, thousands of irreplaceable photos and videos dear to my heart, personal voice recordings and notes never to be replaced, and various sorts of data which now has to be restored in a long a tedious process via collecting it individually from others, knowing that much of it is already lost.
Yes, it is "only" a phone I thought to be lost during a my friends' party and which turned out to be stolen. Yes, technical devices are not truly considered valuable possessions in an age of technical innovation and subsequent inflation, where each half a year maximum a new model is introduced and most people have their most personal data floating around in a virtual cloud.
And then there are smart-ass idiots like me who trust themselves and their ruddy luck more than the virtual space and never back up their data for lack of trust in cloudsTM because they are from the External Data Storage Age or simply because there is to much to back up and then end up like this. Empty-handed. At least I had a Google account to save my phone numbers.
And as a Snape fan it is extremely frustrating to realise that my Tumblr collection of Snape art work and memes which contained over 1200 files I had so far downloaded to my gallery is gone as well. And so is my list of Fanfictions I had been reading, and planning on reading, and my Discord message history (@ottogatto), and my screenshots of favourite passages from Fanfics which I won't remember anymore, and my Snape gifs, and......
Very well. Just felt like sharing. I thought it would be more realistic for a virtual back-up platform to lose my data than for me losing my phone. I was proven wrong, obviously. Snape would have had a good time laughing at my dunderheadedness....
