Rewatching Southparks Black Friday / GOT trilogy and it makes me realize how much I miss shit like that.
I *miss* people getting hyped on Thanksgiving to run to the store , I miss seeing people camp outside because they were excited about something.
I miss seeing my mall filled to the brim with people shopping for the holidays.
Now, I don’t usually promote consumerism- I certainly don’t think it’s necessary to camp outside or wait in line for a sale- I also don’t think that prices should be so high that we feel the need to do that.
However, in recent years it’s really hit me how empty the world feels sometimes now. During the holidays you could always *feel* that excitement and life- it’s portrayed in movies all the time and yet stores have been basically empty in comparison to when I was growing up- or even just a few years ago when I was In high school.
I feel like we miss so much and lose a chunk of experiences by constantly choosing to “do it online” (whatever it may be)
I’ve been a computer nerd most of my life and I’ve always advocated for things to be accessible but sometimes the death of public spaces and group experiences is *so clear*
So yeah, I just wish we could get some of that life back into spaces. I don’t care if you’re spending money or not; just go out and interact and be a part of society.
Digital spaces are great but it’s not the same at all
