Remember the old saying, ‘your body is a Temple’? Now while it’s been used negatively in a lot of cases and kind of outdated, Spiritually this can have great meaning for people, even when taken out of biblical context.
Now we know the human existence is temporary, and the body we reside in is simply the vehicle that allows our Spirit to navigate the physical world. When talking about Spirit, it’s recognizing that each of us are a piece of the Collective Consciousness that decided to inhabit this body to gain knowledge and experience about life as we know it.
When it comes to treating your body like a Temple, it’s less about the physical body than what’s implied. It’s really about recognizing the Divinity within yourself. Any place of worship is treated with utmost respect, a ‘House of God’ some may call it. Well as I just mentioned, your Spirit is part of the Collective Consciousness, which some may call The Universe, Nature, or God, and since your body is what houses your Spirit currently, doesn’t that make your body a House of God?
As far as honouring your body as a Temple, that varies from person to person. Everyone venerates their body in different ways whenever they need to, so there’s really no one-size-fits-all when it comes to something like self-care. Focus on doing what’s right for you in this current moment. When you honour your body and its needs, you honour your Divinity (whatever that means to you). Some people see it as feeding their Ancestors, some see it as nourishing God, some may see it as simply taking care of themselves outside of the Collective. When it comes to your Temple – feed it, dress it, decorate it, take care of it in the way that’s right for you. Your body is your Sacred Space when it comes to your place in the physical world. It’s a link to the Divinity of the physical world – to Nature itself. Treat your Altar with respect and love, and while nourishing the body, your Spirit will continue to grow.
