Okay so I've seen some people in the tag claim Avid forced Elle to go to oakhurst but remember. He is a unreliable narrator and would absolutely fully blame himself for everything. At most I think he actively encouraged her.

I think Elle actively did very much want to help Avid, she's known him since young childhood and so much of her life revolved around him. I've seen some people wonder if they did have a good relationship but I really think they were incredibly close.

I fully believe Elle would've done anything for Avid. Based off what we know about her she likely became a monster hunter at a young age, and actively did it for years. She made sure to help Avid with his stress (the game he used to play with her???) And I also believe Avid would've done similar for her, he couldn't go out and directly help her (Due to his chronic condition.) But he did his best to help in other ways, like creating tools and potions. Like!! What little facts we do know for sure about her points to her actively wanting to support avid.

Along with authentic wheelchair user representation being incredibly sparce, authentic plus size wheelchair user representation is still even rarer.

I was born disabled and I grew up plus size. I grew up the only plus size wheelchair user I knew. Thankfully 2 to 3 has been added to that count but that's not enough.

We exist. We deserve to be seen. We deserve to be celebrated.

I grew up insecure and ashamed of my body because society told me being plus size was not okay. Also being a wheelchair user? Absolutely not.

Unthinkable even to this day. Except...not.

A small personal story...

So ... I was walking down the street with my aunt, I was using a cane, (I am physically disabled) and in front of us on the same path a little boy walks by the hand of a woman. The boy did not stop looking at me all the way down the path, half a body turned back and without taking into account the path in front of him. And it's not the first time it happens. This is something that happens to me often and I understand that children are curious by nature but it is a disrespectful behavior. Children or not. While walking, I was telling my aunt how bad it was for children to look at different people that way, I did it out loud so that the woman next to the child would notice and ask the child to stop doing it . The woman did it but the boy ignored him and he kept looking at me until they changed sides.

I would love for parents to educate their children better. Parents have a lot to do with that, in that their children are respectful, tolerant, free, without prejudice. I have seen how many parents leave that responsibility aside and leave it to schools, teachers and then complain because children are disrespectful, disobedient, rebellious, and do bad things. Parents should pay attention, because the children who raise today will be people who will do great things or bad things depending on the examples they see at home and that you teach them.

I feel like there’s a difference between being classed as disabled and considering yourself disabled. Like I know plenty of folks who would are probably legally disabled but would never call themselves that and to me that’s ok.

There is. That's why I sometimes capitalize the first d in disabled. If it’s capitalized, I'm talking about someone's personal identity. Like I am capital d Disabled because I am lowercase d disabled.

I fully agree with you! I'm never going to tell someone they have to identify as capital d Disabled or even lowercase d disabled.

I've even talked to people who have openly said they have [whatever disabilities] but identify as nondisabled. I don't agree with that or understand it, but it's not my place to get someone to identify however.

No matter how anyone identifies, we're all deserving of equality and equity.

As a non-ambulatory wheelchair user, my consent and bodily autonomy are rarely considered and often violated. As a result, consent is incredibly important to me. Especially before being touched. If I say no, take it as a no.

I know things happen to ambulatory wheelchair users. This is just my personal experience.

not everyone who says they’re “hoping for a healthy baby” means disabled, though. i know that most people i’ve known who said that didn’t mean they hopes for a fully able-bodied and functioning child, they meant a child who was able to live past infancy. modern healthcare has come a long way, but there’s still a lot of things a child can be born with that has no fix, that will almost certainly lead to death. i don’t want to call these “disabilities”, because that implies the child would be able to survive long enough to experience any difference in life from abled individuals, when they wouldn’t. is it really ableist to say “i hope my baby doesn’t die and all those months of carrying and preparing were for nothing”?

That's why I explicitly asked people who have said that what they meant. That's the only meaning I know of.

"Functioning" compared to what exactly? Why does disabled equal not functioning to you?

AGAIN, someone does not have to intend to be ableist to do so.

If a child living past infancy is meant, those should be the words said. MANY "unhealthy" people exist (chronic illness, chronic pain, chronic migraine, etc). Those things can also develop after birth.

I was born with Spina Bifida (which has no "fix") and the outlook varies from person to person. Meaning it could be fatal. (And believing there needs to be a "fix" for anything is ableist.) AND I was stillborn/born dead.

There isn't a single disability or chronic illness that will 100% lead to death before infancy. The most that can happen is a doctor's ableist guess.

"Healthy" kids can also die before infancy.

Is that why you don't want to call them disabilities or do you not want to actually say the word and acknowledge we exist?

The implication, the assumption that if a baby is "healthy" they won't die and if they're "unhealthy" they'll die is ableist.

Saying you're hoping for a healthy baby is ableist. Many ableist words and phrases still exist today.

You have a problem with everything, don't you? That is all that your blog is. Complaining. Being a difficult person is not something to pride upon.

Not being quiet and not settling and having strong boundaries is something I'm extremely proud of. Especially as a disabled person.
