So like... what if I rewatched Ninjago and wanted to rewrite the og series?

They start off older then they insinuate in the show. Kai is 17, not a great blacksmith but good enough to put food on the table. He's around 2 and a half years older, so Nya is only 15. And I made his scar a burn mark from his early attempts at black smithing. He's less moody at the start, but still a cocky dumb ass that plays off his distress with humor. Nya is the one that starts off more scrappy.

Besides his beard I think the only changes I gave Wu are him being just a smidge more serious and having a default resting bitch face expression.

Basically Ninjago, but make it sadder

This is just for fun, and in no way of trying to put down fans of the show. I'm a fan too!

I don't think 2D animation would be a strict improvement.

To start with, the only reason the PV looks as good as it does is because they had three minutes tops to impress investors on what ZagToon had to offer. If this was a 20 minute episode out of 26 others, the animation quality would've been stretched thin with how tight deadlines and budgets are.

I mean, the Anime community is getting a harsh reminder of this with One Punch Man...

Same with Miraculous Tokyo. Odds are the Stellar Force's main TV show will be a lot more constrained in their presentation over multiple episodes. That's just how it goes with animation production even when the production crew isn't being crunched to death for slave wages.

Frankly, I think Season Six's animation style is the best by far. The design changes are questionable but it avoids when Season 4 and 5 felt too… on-model if that makes sense. Less stiff and more moving even when they're standing still.

Plus, the writing would be the same so we'd still be having the same discourse but coated in a different look.

A little update to my research on an obscure DT project, Only Human (2001)...

So I've just finished an hour-long interview with the creator of Only Human, a pilot episode David did back in 2001. This was a follow up to an interview I did a couple weeks ago with one of its developers.

I'll be doing some supplemental work with them in the coming weeks to make sure all my ducks are in a row, information-wise, before doing any solid writing on it. But after that, you can expect a long-form post on the origins of this obscure David Tennant project. All I can say is wow! I've learned SO much, and I'm excited to be able to share it! And if you're reading this but you have NO idea what project I'm talking about, you should go watch Only Human.
