Urban Legends #24
TMNT: URBAN LEGENDS #24 “APRIL” 2020 BY GARY CARLSON, FRANK FOSCO, ADAM GUZOWSKI AND COURTLAND BRUGGER
Twenty-something years later, IDW is finally finishing Image’s TMNT run. Pimiko has joined the Turtles in their attempt to defeat Lady Shredder, and Donatello is fighting to get Master Splinter back to “life”, but he will have to fight his own armor first.
SCORE: 7
That was a long wait, but you may already know, I actually reviewed the “unofficial” ending of that run. Now, while those issues were a little different from the usual TMNT issues of the time, it was based on notes from Carlson, if my memory doesn’t fail me. So when I read that Urban Legends was going to finish that story I thought “well, they probably weren’t happy with the final product”.
While this issue doesn’t follow those unofficial releases (and it actually hides away from one of its plots), it does seem to be going the same way for other plots... perhaps one of the most... controversial ones of that run. It also makes me wonder if this run will connect with Volume 4 (like the unofficial release did).
The art is not very eye-catching, but it is the style of the book, so on issue 24 I cannot really start complaining about how it looks, or more specifically, how awful Pimiko looks.
I used quotes around “April” in the date because that is what the book says... but it should either say July or September. I think IDW always uses the month it comes out. So my guess is this book was delayed by the COVID-19/diamond fiasco. I had to re-read issues 22 and 23 before reading this (which I recommend). Also for me, it was technically the first time reading them, since I had to read the originals to complete the run last year (and those issues weren’t out in color yet).
Spoilers after the break...
