"Rogue Brewing Co. | New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta | Barley Wine | U.S.A. | 8.25 out of 10 Creamy amber pour with a lacy beige head. Nose of apricots, figs, plums, esters, spice, slightly grassy, and piney. Some earthiness underneath. Very interesting boquet, it specifically layered the characters of a barley wine and imperial IPA in perfect harmony. Mouthfeel tends to resemble a grapefruity crisp with barley wine like oiliness. Begins with a well balanced hoppy bitterness that coats your palate. Fruity bloom in the middle - mostly barley wine characteristics then pineapple underneath finished by a subsiding bitterness and hoppy aroma. Very interesting and complex brew. I feel the need to finish the entire bottle all by myself just to debunk every ounce of information this brew has. Very enjoyable brew from Rouge. An Imperial Barley Wine sorta brew, although high in ABV, it has a very summery feel to it. @thebeerpadawan: "Dogfish Head Brewery | 90 Minute Imperial IPA | Imperial IPA | U.S.A. | 8.75 out of 10 Solid amber pour with an off biscuit soapy head. Nose of melons, clove, honey, watermelon, wood chips and brandy boozyness. It does smell like a fruitcake but this one is better because it's in beer form. Huge flavors of tangerines: orange, grapefruit, lime, and citrus peels followed by a generous hoppy bitterness. Mild sticky dry finish. Cherry, toffee, and mild spruce. Caramel, sweet malty mid tasting. Moderate carbonation with a spot on palate permeating mouthfeel. Moderately bitter but the overall freshness is just superb. Well rounded, interesting, and fairly complex. Though I personally prefer the 60 minute version, this one still managed to deliver an enjoyable drinking experience. I would recommend it as a gateway to Imperial IPA tastings.
