Time ago I got a plan to make a comic out of my favourite Berserk fanfic I read on fanfiction.net (link here, written by wonderful @plaiddoodles here on tumblr). So, here’s the beginning of the first chapter, the rest (starring Guts & Casca) is to come (when I manage to get to it :’) )
Wait, what’s changed for autographs at cons?
@plaiddoodles said: I keep hearing whispers about this but I have yet to see the actual changes that people are talking about (besides of course from Denver Con when JA switched days)
Answering both at once:
Basically, J2's schedule changed, splitting some of their events into two days (which was already gradually happening at Dencon and Charcon). And there's now a separation at J2's autographs: photos and photo ops are signed on Sunday, while everything else is on Saturday.
I don't see anything special about it, other than an attempt to make actors and handlers' work easier. But many people consider it a reaction to fandom's behaviour, it seems. Bronlies say that this rule was added because Jensen was asked to sign (and did sign) an illustrated Destiel fanfic anthology at Charlotte; hellers say some events were rescheduled because (most likely) a bronly recorded and then posted Jensen's answer from meet & greet at Denver. It's weird, and I don't understand this logic. We probably will never know the truth.
Before that, at Charcon, an NDA was added for Jensen's m&g only. While it could be because of "Rust", many people said that he isn't allowed to talk about this anyway — and Jensen himself explained that at the panel. I saw a post pointing out that CE has been trying to stop leaks from m&g's for some time, and NDA could be part of those efforts. Whatever the reason is, this change is definitely a result of the Dencon leak. It's interesting, though, that NDA was added only for Jensen's event instead of becoming a blanket rule.
And that's what makes me wonder if Jensen actually wants to stop going to SPN conventions, while Creation tries to keep him by adding more accommodations. Because out of three changes, two were made for him, and the third could've been as well. This is purely speculation, though, don't quote me on this. Maybe both Jays just don't want to cram 10+ events into one day anymore.
lady, I’m Tolstoy.
@plaiddoodles - this reply is important and I wanted to publish it:
Everyone wants Dean’s love. It is craved by almost everyone in the story. When another character feels they don’t or can’t have his love, it often accompanies depression. I think as a result, in the narrative, he almost came to represent the idea of being able to be loved at all. Fans feel that, even if they don’t recognize it, and thus when Dean doesn’t love unconditionally, some tend to resent him for it. It feels like a reflection of the inherent worth of another person to them.
this is absolutely it. his representation of love and its intrinsic capabilities. and it's both a beautiful thing - his love being a guiding force and heartbeat in the story, as I've discussed so many times before, a power that represents humanity and the resilience of the soul and radical free will, and a complicated one - because it does accompany coveting and jealousy and even (unfair to put on him) questions of worth, due to the nature of craving that approval and love, when he responds with anger or anything perceived as judgment. positioned as the heart, a lot gets tied to him, including that unjust resentment when anyone thinks that he isn't giving enough of himself (when he dares to assert his agency or act in a way that is seen as "selfish"/"mean") or isn't providing that love in the "right" (ie: demanded) way. (and I'm not saying he's not himself possessive and judgmental at times, nor am I denying his anger, that's all a part of him too. they're all complex! let them be complex! the abundance of his love doesn't even mean that love itself is "perfect," nor should it have to be, nor does it abide by one definition because its spokes extend outwardly to so many characters in myriad ways, but it IS desired and it IS immutable and it does consistently inform the narrative).
@plaiddoodles replied:
This is exactly what Jensen was stated to have said in M&G last year INCLUDING the painting analogy btw. https://destieldailynews.tumblr.com/post/637338217673261056/heres-the-full-transcript-of-jensens-mg-where
Sorry for the late response, my notifications are a mess. Yeah, it's basically the same answer from different PoVs. And they do that all the time when talking about Dean & Cas relationship, especially lately. Which I think implies Jensen and Misha discuss(ed) it extensively and share at least some of their opinions. I only wish fans would finally recognise that and stop using double standards in their reactions.
@plaiddoodles said: Jensen just… took Jared’s headcanon on stage “Didn’t you tell people it was 5 years? Yeah 5 years”. I found that fascinating. I have on my funny checkered hat and am smoking pipe, examining clues with a magnifying glass.
He didn't actually take Jared's headcanon, though. If this is based on that one video snippet from Twitter, his reply was cut at the beginning, so the meaning was a bit changed.
(I wish people stopped intentionally spreading misinformation like that, even if they mean that as a joke. It always gets out of control and ends in a more wankery *flashbacks to the "hunter green" and other bs*.)
What Jensen actually said, based on Gayled_it video from J2 Gold panel (20:40):
"...And we talked about a little bit about this in the meet-and-greet yesterday that there– (to Jared) And I think you– they mentioned that you talked about it too. About how much time that elapsed between the God showdown and the barn scene. And I think I always assumed it was– Several years had gone by."
Then he talks that it being several years helped Dean to accept his fate, and THEN they say the following (21:48):
Jared: Because I have a dark sense of humour, I was like, "It was quick. They drove home from God and got killed."
Jensen: They [fans at the m&g] said you said it was like five years*. That we had been living in that routine for like five years of like going on hunts.
Then they laugh, and Jared says, "it's not enough years."
*From what I gathered on Twitter, Jared hasn't actually said that, but rather agreed with the fan's headcanon during his Q&A on 23.11.20. In fact, I saw tweets claiming his own headcanon was 1 week=1 month (which aligns with the "it was quick" joke at the last week panel).
From what I understand, Jensen chose to think that it's been several years because it made Dean's ending easier for him. And hearing from people at the m&g that Jared thought so too just supported his own interpretation. Even though fans at m&g were wrong, and Jared has a different opinion.
Anyway, I think actors are entitled to their own interpretations, and people need to chill and remember that this is not canon anyway and we are free to ignore it. Also, the finale is such a mess that no one even knows what story it was supposed to tell.
I see nothing better, I keep him forever
