some namid concepts and trying to costume design. i’m not 100% on the outfit, but the book with a diagram of the planar system on the cover is ok
What's the lore for your deities in the Nevverse? What are deities? Where do they come from? How many are there?
boy howdy am I glad you asked! before I go on this insane tangent here's the Nevverse planar system I neglected to upload because I'm very smart (written as if I were a planar scientist in the world). I'll upload this again with a full transcript soon since alt text has a very small text limit.
so first off: some of the shit here has since been worked with a bit so as it stands now: Divines are the current inhabitants of the Divine plane, although the entire population of Divines originally came from the Aetheril plane, having created the higher plane to reside in. labels like Deity and God are more job and/or rank descriptors than anything, being earned rather than inherent. It should be said that the pic says "the divine plane only has the High Divines" but I've since written it that theres an entirely isolated population of peoples who are the Divines there, seperate to the Angels of the Aetheril plane they're related to, so it's more than just the Gods, including Deities and citizens.
The Divines, historically, were a population of Angelic folk with inherent extremely strong control over the magic of the Nevverse universe, including Divine magic. upon learning about lower planes and particularly how they could almost definitely control or destroy them with ease, it was decided they should use their power for the good of the planar system to protect it. they created the Divine Plane mostly so they have somewhere of their own to do their fuckshit, and not risk damage the Aetheril or lower planes. although these guys are super powerful and have a very all-knowing, all-seeing deal, they aren't Gods in the sense that they didn't create the planar system, any of the planes, worlds, creatures ETC. they're Just Really Strong People.
A Deity specifically is a Divine who's part of one of a few Councils, ranging from scientific rings to groups of individuals in power of law and order. I've yet to get them all written down but the most notable one I've worked with is the Council of Creation, which is a large group of Deities interested in studying the inhabitants and wildlife of the lower planes and researching + experimenting with their biological laws in a non-invasive and safe way. Most individuals are Minor Deities, with a few Higher Deities who keep that shit in check. both Faethro and Drakken are or were Minor Deities of the Council of Creation.
Divines and Angels are kind of timeless, with the Divine plane in particular having a very loose relationship with time at best, allowing for things like being able to jump around timelines on lower planes (except the Abyssal Plane). although they can be killed, internal conflicts are rare, and they otherwise don't die of old age. There can be new divines however, they're not the product of a birth or reproduction though, occasionally the energy of the Aetheril or Divine plane will bunch together, gain a metaphysical form, and then free will. They don't age so much as they Learn, so there aren't really any children VS adults so much as inexperienced individuals VS know-it-alls. as for where and how this started happening: one of the universe's greatest mysteries!
I'm specifically avoiding deciding on a set amount of Deities at least for the Council of Creation so I have a pretty open ended layout for when and if I add more critters to Nevverse with beastial origin. which, by the way, there's an actual definition for what 'beasts' are in Nevverse, and I've written about it here! as for other councils such as the fantasy lawmakers and such, that's something I've yet to write 👀
and although the Divines aren't true gods/haven't created the worlds or creatures, religions and forms of worship are extremely common throughout lower planes, particularly the Prime Material plane. the popularity and wide-spread cementation of religion in mortal culture boomed following the historical event of The Golden Beast (later the Urtarasque) being created, which was Drakken essentially being encouraged in making his Superdragon as a gift to mortal people, which unfortunately did not have its own free will as a result of Drake's inexperience and lack of knowledge of the material plane. So obviously when he got confronted and met with aggression, he became enraged, causing the beast on the material plane to also become uncontrollable and destructive. this was an event which required Direct Action from the higher deities, thus proving to the inhabitants of the material plane that Deities Are Real and they were Right about the whole "we were created by gods" thing. kind of. Deities with followings nosying and visiting devotees became a thing over time, as long as they didn't overdo "miracles" and tried to stick to offering advice.
Hello! How were the IPRE badges described? Were they badges? Patches? Was any dimension given? (why, yes, i am working on a cosplay, how did you know)
I wouldn’t want you to be out of the loop with your cosplay, so this is a quick post.
The patches are detailed twice, once when THB receive them as Candlenights gifts:
Griffin: …And as you pop it open, and the three of you are sort of looking over into this uh, this package as you open it up, you see there are three iron-on badges inside of this box. They’re these dark blue circle like, iron-on emblems and inside of each of these blue fabric circles, there is, there are 12 more circles. All different colors sort of around the outside of each badge. And in the middle is a word that is written in a language that none of you recognize, you cannot read, you cannot make out what the word is, what these badges are for because you can’t seem to read this word in the middle…
And later when they follow the Red Robe into his cave:
Griffin: And there’s another thing in this room that catches your eye: a small, plain, wooden chest. And draped over that chest is a red robe. Like an—like an actual, tangible red robe, not the personification that you’ve been talking to. And sewn into its breast you see a familiar sight. You see a circular patch, with a design containing twelve multicolored circles, and a sort of like… shifting, imparsable text in the middle of it. Only Magnus, you can read that text as plain as day. It’s an acronym, and it says: “I.P.R.E.”
It has already been discussed what the colour of the twelve (12) circles are before, as they represent the planar system.
This is all that is described. Do with as you will. Have a fun time while cosplaying. Do not forget to drink water.
This thing isn't very easy to see out the window of the upcoming illustration, so I'm going to post it here separately.
One of the things I found most interesting about TAZ is that it introduced me to the concept of a Planar System (at least, Griffin's simplified version of the DND planar system). Initially I mistook this to mean that the show took place on a series of disc worlds, until I realized that each disc contained outside atmospheric space, as well, for the ship to orbit physically in (whether that means a solar system or universe, I am unsure).
Either way, I attempted to depict it based on the podcast's mentioned configuration, as collated here.
I assume the Astral Plane is everywhere, simultaneously?
Istus: I’m not even talking about this town, Taako, I’m talking about all of it! The world, the plane, the planar system, reality, all of it! I certainly have godly powers, I don’t like to brag, but I’ve never known anything like the three of you. And I don’t know why that is but I’m intrigued. Because whether you realize it or not, you’ve been serving as my agents for longer than you could ever remember.
Istus: Almost your entire lives, the three of you have been preventing things that go against the designs of fate from happening, stopping powers that would reshape reality from being used by people who shouldn’t be using them.
Actually laying out the planar system in my d&d campaign.
So I know that Griffin says the line "oh you don't need to make a roll for that, son!" Or something VERY similar but I can't remember what the context of that was? Any help is appreciated, thanks so much your blog is a life saver!!
Episode 68, Time: 55:33
Context is that Taako is super powered from eating the taco he made with Joaquin and he’s just about to turn the black glass circle in Phandalin into a mirror into the Astral Plane.
