Comfort

wc: 1.3 K summary: your younger brother tries to comfort you when you're sick. warnings: none, fluff, platonic, no y/n used a/n: I'm doing this because i dont want to live, so here you go. (divider)
It started with a sore throat after patrol. Nothing too scary and you made yourself a warm tea to make it go away before going to sleep. But it was bold of you to assume that it won't get worse overnight. Tea isn't medicine after all.
It started to get worse in school, the next morning. You noticed the tremors going through your body and light sweat covering your skin as you went through each period, but you didn't want to skip the day just because of that. So, you powered through, even when you felt like a walking zombie by the end of it. After you managed all your classes, you get back home and make the agonizing way upstairs. Entering your room felt like heaven, being reliefed that it's over, but now you have to take care of yourself somehow.
Ultra Magnus gives me the vibes that if he was human, he’d secretly be a huge cat person. So this obviously means that as an autobot, he’s secretly a huge human person. Humans are space cats, after all.
You’ll never see him interacting with humans more than he has to when there’s other bots around, but when he’s in the privacy of his office, he’ll just hold his human friend with one arm while doing his work. Said human will probably be reading or knitting or doing some kind of quiet activity.
I just get the vibe that he’d like humans more than he lets on, but maybe I just want to think all transformers would want to be my friend.
what are they talkin about based off my friends hc!!
not ship art but i dont really mind if seen as ship

A/N: Oml, thank you so much! Anon!! But believe me, if I was then Genshin would be looking an awful lot like Blasphemous 💀💀
It’s been a while since I’ve written Kaeya, but I hope you like this! Turned out a bit angsty, but mostly fluff I think.
“Oh my brother, my brother, my brother
Who have you become in the wake of all that’s happened here?”
Or
Kaeya with a younger-sibling!reader
Childhood
Assuming that you, his younger sibling, are a Ragnvindr, you will meet Kaeya the same way Diluc did. Crepus would lead the shivering, drenched, scarecrow of a boy while servants flit about like scattering pigeons rushing to assist him by their master’s demand.
At first it would be hard to believe he was older than you. He’d speak little and even when he did his voice would be low and soft, tentative and unsure. He’d avoid your gaze, shifting his weight from one foot to the other while he’d mumble his reply. His scrawny physique wouldn’t do him much favours. It already made him ripe pickings for the other noble children.
So initially, I imagine Diluc being the protective one. Regardless of your nature, whether shy or combative, Diluc would be the first — and often final — line of defence against bullies. Even if he’d throw a fit about the spankings that came after, the grin he’d give the both of you after a rough tussle could rival the sun itself.
Kaeya, however, was not that transparent. Even as a child, there would be a certain heaviness to his gaze. A hollowness that could potentially scare you or throw you off. It took him at least a month to adjust to his new family, otherwise he was just mechanically obedient.
When he begins to open up though is when you finally get to meet your brother. Diluc is the one who’d drag you through the vines to whatever mischief he finds, but Kaeya is the one to pull you back up if you trip. When Adelinde’s bed time story fails, Kaeya will read to you instead without complaint. On the rare nights when Diluc doesn’t sleep like the dead, he’d snuggle into bed beside you to listen to him too. The sight of the three of you sleeping atop each other like this is one of Crepus’ most cherished ones, probably sketched in one of his books already.
Kaeya would also love playing make believe with you and Diluc. He’d be the treacherous pirate, Diluc the daring Captain and you his loyal First Mate.
Yes, Kaeya is also breaking up the fights over who gets to be Captain this turn because he doesn’t want to cover for either of your punishments all the time … though you three know he would in a heartbeat.
Speaking of fights, usually Kaeya is quite flexible and compromising so they would be few and far in between. I only see him having a full blown quarrel over books. Perhaps you won’t let him borrow your own despite not touching it in weeks or maybe just rage baiting him over a character he admires. Things like that. He’s also likely to get grouchy if you keep pestering him when he’s concentrating, but even then he’s more of a sulker. Otherwise, he’s the quiet and responsible type of older brother who makes sure Diluc doesn’t go too far with his dares or teasing … though he himself is often guilty of the latter.
As for the bullying, once he’s finally found his place he isn’t afraid of getting defensive. Though he does give the occasional snappy retort, he’s found the best way to deal with someone picking on you is to remove you from their vicinity as peacefully as possible and go tell Crepus or Adelinde.
Teenage / Adulthood
By the time he hits fourteen or fifteen, Kaeya is a lot more confident but still reserved and awkward. He’s beginning to hone his charm and experiments with it often, so don’t be too surprised if you’re handed notes, chocolates and other such affections for him by “secret” admirers. Of course, Kaeya would simply laugh it off and share the sweets with you as he explains this trick he picked up from a romantic thriller.
He will frequently interfere with your appearance, in the sense that he will not allow you to leave the house looking any less dapper and smart than himself. Will definitely help you pick out suits, dresses, cologne and all that. He idolises the way Master Crepus both presents himself and deals with associates and pests alike and frequently reminds you of the importance of a strong appearance.
Musical sessions with him and Diluc are frequent. He loves to be a goof with the trumpet, especially if you’re strict about music. He can’t help it, it’s fun to aggravate you!
Speaking of aggravation, he’s the prankster now. Just when you think you’d get some peace of mind with Diluc mellowing down, Kaeya gladly picks up the mantle. So you’ll find yourself the victim of at least three pranks a week and a dumb joke every single day.
Though he’s grown into an absolute chaos-monger, he is still just as caring as before. If not more so.
Remember those bullies? If they try anything this time they’ll not only get a thinly veiled threat from the Cavalry Captain but also a severe tongue lashing from Kaeya that would make their ancestors cringe and dig a new grave in shame. That and he’s slowly building his connections, so if he wants to give them a scare he most certainly can.
The last thing Kaeya wants is for you to come to harm. So if you yourself start dealing with the questionable people he’s associating with, he will firmly disapprove.
If you’re training to be a knight as well, both Kaeya and Diluc are eager to spar with you. They might go easier on you though, since you’ll always be their baby sibling. Diluc too had long stopped his aggressive play wrestling … unless you challenge him of course.
Kaeya loves placing little bets too. Whether that’s predicting social drama or a friendly competition of strength and guile — Kaeya loves to keep things interesting with challenge.
After he develops a taste for wine he will gladly give you pointers and have long, winded conversations about the niche specificities of the taste and production. If you’re not of age however he’ll make sure you don’t start drinking behind his back (you were excluded from his wine heists with Diluc for a reason). Try as you might, you cannot sneak a bottle from under his nose, he has far too much experience with assisting Diluc with the same. He will, however, allow you the occasional sip from his own glass.
But The Day It All Went To Shit™️ (see my other posts for context) changes a lot of this.
Post - Crepus’ Demise
I feel like Kaeya would approach Diluc first with his secret, not wanting to burden you — the youngest. He believes you should live a life free of burden — considering himself to be yet another — and though “betraying” Diluc is already tearing him apart, he lacks both the strength and the courage to see his secret unravel you.
In fact, the whole confrontation might pass without your knowledge. You’d probably only witness the aftermath — the tense silences, Adelinde’s pained glances, the deathly hollowness of the mansion that was once so full of life.
And both would refuse to speak of it. Diluc — because his entire world is shattering with grief and betrayal — and Kaeya — because Diluc’s violent rejection has pushed him deep inside the shell he spent years crawling out of.
Kaeya would move out swiftly after. When you confront him he’ll make up a simple story; he wanted a change of pace, he wanted to focus more on his responsibilities as the new Cavalry Captain and the Knights’ accommodation was perfect, he wanted a taste of true independence - anything and everything he can use to deflect the true reason.
And if you were to cry? If you’d break down about the unfairness of it all, the loss of your father, the changed Diluc, the hushed secrets amidst maids and staff and now him abandoning you like this not even a week after the funeral service?
He would hold you in pure, honest silence. He would hope that you’d understand this embrace; this quiet promise that even if he’d run from his pain he would never abandon you to face the ghosts of the life you all once shared. It would be awkward since hugging had grown infrequent with the years, but it would be true. And then he’d leave, promising to write and visit from time to time.
Diluc too would leave a few nights after. He may leave a note of some explanation but not an inkling to his whereabouts. He fears you would follow him to your own destruction.
And life would go on, though you would be resigned to the bones of what was once home.
Kaeya’s first visit would be as Cavalry Captain, and it would be more than just a bit awkward. If you would resent him for leaving, he would accept it; though he wouldn’t be able to bring himself to return your bitterness as he often does either Diluc. At least not until you’ve been a bit too vicious, but even then he’d refrain from hurtful jabs.
It would be difficult, adjusting to his sudden switch of character. He’d had his charms but you’d never seen him be so open and flamboyant about them. His sudden complication of character would stun both you and Adelinde.
Speaking of Adelinde, she would be the few pillars of support you have left. Perhaps the only person still holding what was left of the Ragnvindr household together. Elzer too, but he would be more involved with taking care of the business while you recuperate. If you don’t have anything specific planned — such as joining the knights, pursuing higher education, etc. — you will be encouraged to take over the winery business, at least until Diluc returns … if he does at all.
But the one thing that’s certain is your relationship with Kaeya — and Diluc by extension — will be significantly more complicated.
If you are on talking terms with Kaeya, he would act mostly as he used to but the vulnerability he’d allowed himself with you prior would be significantly muted. He’d be quick to brush off personal questions and steers the conversation back to you. Though certainly not as bad as the long silences with Diluc, it gives you the impression that you’re speaking to an acquaintance instead your elder brother.
He tries to make up for this with favours or presents. Your study would be full of trinkets he’d haggle over in foreign markets, anything that he’d think would catch your eye. But if you choose to dispose of them instead or flat out ask him to stop, he will be deeply hurt. Though the only expression of it would be the brief silence as he collects himself. He’d slip into his persona fairly easily after, as if you didn’t just stomp over his heart.
He would be elated if you decided to drop by his place. Even when he’s neck deep in work he’ll pause everything for a quick chat with you. He’d reminisce about the old days often over wine, but as I said earlier he’d let you do most of the talking.
He’s still looking after you, but from a distance. Someone shows interest in you? Immediate background check. A business associate giving you a hard time? Hm, how lucky you are he stopped by the winery for a quick word! He’ll assist you with anything you need, sometimes without you even offering. Though this desire to help might border on invasive at times, so make sure to draw the line and tell him if you want to deal with something yourself. He’ll back off … but he’ll get more sneaky about it.
Though your relationship with him is definitely strained to a degree now, Kaeya will always be your older brother, with his faults and his love. Reconciliation might come easier between the both of you, and given how Kaeya and Diluc are acting now I’d wager it won’t be too long till you find yourselves together as a family. A changed one, but a family nonetheless.
A/N: Got a little break so I could finally answer!! I apologise deeply for the lateness —
Also, college is leading to a lot of self discovery. Such as people can be absolute asses and that an institution of science can still have an extremely unscientific administration. Oh, and also that I’m probably neurodivergent, but a friend really helped me with that (yk who you are, and thank you) so that explains a lot.
Anyway, see you all next time!! Take care of yourselves <333
