No matter where you are when the words of Jane Austen touch your heart you never forget why. SATE's original stage adaptation of Austen's beloved Pride and Prejudice incorporates recollections of a variety of people's first impressions upon reading the novel. From Pakistan to Paris to St. Louis, 200 years after it was penned, this story connects us.
Here's one of the two posters i painted for my schools production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. I've had the pleasure of working with the tech crew for the past two years and painting 8 total posters (with help of course). This one was a challenge because of the texture and depth in the original design. Most of the other posters i've done are just trace and paint by number basically, maybe a fade here and there but nothing this intricate. I achieved the background using a sponge and 2 purples, mixed into various shades. This took me about a month to paint both of them. They have been sitting outside and inside of my school to advertise the play. Painting these posters is really special for me because it's part of a large production and this poster is a visual representation of all of the hard work that goes into putting on these shows. Actors, crew members, and audience members take pictures with this poster to remember the experience of performing, working, or attending these shows. Years from now people will look back at their pictures and remember this show. When you create something that can be a part of not only yours but other people's memories, that's really special and amazing. This is the last show i will have the honor of painting a poster for as i'm graduating this spring. This is by far the best one yet. This has taken me countless hours but i'm super proud of the result! Materials: paint (like the big cans you use for painting walls, idk what it's called), some crappy brushes i found backstage, random glitter i had, purple sharpie paint marker, one trusty sponge
For a class project, we were asked to make a poster for a Shakespeare play, but set in a different style decade. I chose 80s Othello! Pulling inspiration from places like Miami Vice and the movie Drive, I went with the traditional 80s neon, but toned the colors down to reflect the dramatic aspects of the play. Something I thought was a clever sort of “easter egg” is the subtle placement of Desdemona’s handkerchief in the background as a nod to it’s importance to the play as well as adding in some more shapes to ground the feel and style of the project.
